Rewind the clock once more.

While Alex and Steve were locked in their life-and-death struggle, Harley, perched on the mountaintop, sensed a ripple in space. Someone was flying toward her position at high velocity.

"Interesting," She mused. "The out-of-towner managed to find his way out so fast? He must have met a real saint."

The out-of-towner she was referring to was, of course, Thor. And he had met some saints—specifically, those five or six muscle-bound angels now twitching uncontrollably on the floor of the nightclub.

Harley’s mission was to pin Thor down. Before he could get any closer, she teleported.

Thor was swinging Mjölnir, racing toward the battlefield, when the hair on his neck stood up. A pair of small hands rested on his shoulders.

SHING!

Before he could react, space shifted again. That nauseating, world-spinning sensation returned.

"Don’t like nightclubs? Fine, I’ll pick a different venue this time," Harley’s voice chirped in his ear.

However, just as she prepared to blink them away again, Thor fought through the dizziness. Relying on raw instinct, he clamped his hand firmly over hers.

Covering one eye and struggling to focus, Thor growled, "The same trick will not work on me twice."

Harley tugged, but she couldn’t break his grip. Panicking, she tried to teleport again. But Thor held her hand like a vice; no matter how many times she jumped, he went with her.

"Forgive me," Thor whispered.

BZZZZZT!

Electricity surged violently from his body.

"AAAAAAAAH!" Harley screamed in agony before collapsing face-first into the desolate desert sand.

Even with his opponent unconscious, Thor took no chances. He peeled back her eyelid with his other hand. "Hm. Truly out cold."

He finally let go and stood up, swaying unsteadily. "My apologies. Rest here for a while. By the time you wake, this will all be over."

Thor scanned the horizon to get his bearings. He was about to go find a phone to borrow again when a dull roar echoed from the distance. A magnificent mushroom cloud slowly bloomed into the sky.

"There!" Thor smiled. This time, he wouldn’t need a phone.

In the Helicarrier’s command center, agents were a blur of motion. Fury stood on the command deck, processing a stream of intel and barking orders.

"We have a massive detonation on the surface! What happened?!"

"Initial readings suggest an Arc Reactor overload!"

"Contact Stark! I want to know exactly what’s going on!"

"Sir! Stark says... it might be the Captain!"

Fury went silent for a heartbeat.

"Sir, Agent Romanoff’s signal has flatlined."

"Damn it... I told her not to go..."

"Sir! The Gamma scanners have re-locked the source. Loki’s Scepter is directly beneath that mountain range!"

"Good! Has Thor reached the battlefield yet?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞

"Sir... Thor has gone missing. Again."

"No. An explosion that size is a beacon. Notify the Iron Legion immediately. Divert a squad of suits to find Thor and feed him the coordinates!"

*

As Thor approached the battle zone, an Iron Man suit painted in Air Force colors intercepted him.

Thor wasted no time: "What was that explosion?"

The soldier, following strict orders, ignored the question. "Sir, Jason’s location has been confirmed. He is roughly one thousand meters beneath the mountains."

Thor felt a surge of hope, but pressed: "I understand. But what happened on the field?"

The soldier finally answered directly. "Captain America initiated a reactor overload. He likely took out a high-ranking Joker member with him. Also... Agent Romanoff’s life signs have been lost."

The joy in Thor’s heart vanished instantly. He knew Steve’s story, and he had shared words with Natasha. He couldn’t believe that only minutes into the war, they were both gone.

Thor felt a pang of sorrow. The earth was scarred, death was everywhere, and tears were flowing like rivers. This was the brutality of war. Even if your closest friends died before your eyes, the battlefield didn’t give you a single second to mourn.

It ends now...

To kill the snake, you must cut off the head. If he could eliminate the source of this evil, the war would end.

"I have it from here," Thor said, his gaze turning grim.

Once the Iron Man suit peeled away, Thor swung his hammer and ascended high above the peaks. He cleared his mind, and with a single thought, the pitch-black sky began to rumble. Bolts of lightning danced through the clouds.

"What... why is it suddenly thundering?"

The rank-and-file members of the Joker Organization and SHIELD still didn’t fully grasp the weight of the title God of Thunder. Thor was the master of the storm. In any corner of the universe, the lightning was his.

The thunder grew deafening. The flashes became blinding.

"HRAAAAH!"

Thor’s entire body crackled with electricity. He roared as he raised Mjölnir to the heavens, summoning the sky’s wrath.

KRA-KOOM!!!

A deafening thunderclap shook the world. A bolt of lightning, miles long, tore through the sky diving through the clouds! In an instant, night became day, bright enough to sear the eyes.

BOOM!!!

The lightning slammed into the mountaintop. The entire mountain range seemed to boil and churn. Soil and rock were blasted into the sky, creating a literal rain of earth that blotted out the horizon.

The strike commanded the attention of everyone on the battlefield. Even residents a hundred kilometers away could see the flash with their naked eyes.

Seconds later, silence returned. As the torrential rain of dirt settled, everyone stared with wide, horrified eyes.

The mountain range—nearly a thousand meters high and ten kilometers long—was simply gone. The horizon was now flat and unobstructed. It was as if a giant had taken a shovel the size of the world and leveled the earth in a single stroke.

After a few seconds of stunned silence, the battlefield erupted in a roar of awe.

Thor hovered in mid-air, bathed in the reverence and worship of tens of thousands. Those who hadn’t known his strength now understood what it meant to be a God.

For SHIELD, Thor was a shot of pure adrenaline. Soldiers on the ground and technicians on the Helicarrier cheered, their faces filled with excitement. With a being this powerful on their side, there was no way they could lose.

Conversely, Thor’s fury shattered the resolve of the Joker Organization. Even the most fearless fanatics felt a primal chill in their souls.

The top executives felt their hearts leap into their throats. Jason was supposed to be hundreds of meters beneath those mountains. Jason was their source of power. If he were dead, the Joker Organization would collapse instantly.

"Harley! Harley! Where are you?!" David screamed into his comms like a madman. There was no reply.

John’s face twisted. "Damn it! Something happened to Harley! Someone go check, now!"

Franklin grunted, "I’m pinned down by Iron Man suits! I can’t move!"

David’s rage boiled over. "Fuck you, Stark!"

A-Train, having caught his breath, pressed his comms. "David, calm down! I’m on it!"
