My Online Girlfriend Has a Twin Sister
Chapter 408 - 267: Chen Yuan’s Veto and Wan’s Brilliant Plan for Jiangg Yao
That was a bold thing to say.
She was implying that Pei Youwen would install one of his own people by Chen Yuan’s side, effectively keeping the power in his own hands while just going through the motions. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
The moment she said it, a cold sweat broke out on everyone. It was a serious accusation.
It was all because Mo Nana had a fiery temper and was proud of her accomplishments. Although she didn’t dare act up around Chen Yuan, when it came to her standing in the company, she wasn’t afraid of anyone.
"What are you trying to say? Director Mo, you can eat whatever you want, but you can’t just say whatever you want!" Pei Youwen slammed his hand on the table.
"I’m not just saying things. It’s the truth."
"That’s fucking bullshit! I wouldn’t stoop to something like that. I guarantee that everything I proposed is for the good of the company. You think I’m trying to line my own pockets?" Pei Youwen cursed, his face dark.
"Chairman... Look at him..." Mo Nana whirled around to complain tearfully to Chen Yuan, her seat being close to his. "If you weren’t here, he would’ve hit me! I’m scared."
The conference room was in chaos.
Some were arguing, some were crying, and some were just enjoying the show.
The older members of the board of directors looked displeased.
In reality, most of the upper management at Bauhinia Company were quite young, which made the atmosphere in meetings rather "lively."
Chen Yuan averted his gaze from Mo Nana’s aggrieved face. He wasn’t in the mood to play along with her drama. "Let’s put it to a vote, then," he said lightly. "I’ll see the numbers."
"Fine!"
The moment he finished speaking, Pei Youwen’s hand shot up with a SWISH. The vast majority of the others also supported the resolution.
A quick glance revealed a forest of raised hands.
"Alright, you can put your hands down," Chen Yuan said, standing up. "I veto this resolution. Meeting adjourned."
Mo Nana was instantly stunned. The others also stared at him in astonishment.
"It’s fine. We’ll just continue tomorrow," Pei Youwen said, having anticipated this. He shrugged nonchalantly.
"And I’ll just veto it again tomorrow."
The two locked eyes, each recognizing the determination in the other’s gaze. Then, Chen Yuan walked out the door alone and returned to his office to rest.
He left the other managers staring at each other in bewilderment.
They all knew that Pei Youwen was the chairman’s confidant. ’So what was this whole drama with them disagreeing? Why was the proposal vetoed so decisively?’
The group filed out of the conference room one by one, Pei Youwen among them. He ignored his colleagues’ questions, his leather shoes striding loudly down the hallway as he loosened his tight tie.
From behind him came the sound of rapid footsteps.
"Hey," Mo Nana said, catching up to him. She positioned herself half a step ahead of him, matching his pace. "What was that all about?"
"What was what all about?"
"Why did the Chairman veto your resolution? Wasn’t this something you two had already agreed on?"
"Director Mo, I think you’ve misunderstood," Pei Youwen said coolly. "The Chairman has the right to veto anyone’s resolution, and mine is no exception. Don’t think that just because headquarters sent me to assist him, I have some special say in things. A subordinate is always a subordinate."
"But you two are on the same page about so many things, aren’t you?"
"And? When our opinions align, what I say matters. When they don’t, what does my opinion count for?" Pei Youwen looked her straight in the eye. "It’s worth jack shit."
"Really?" Mo Nana looked skeptical. "Forget it. I’m going to see the Chairman."
She stopped in her tracks and turned to head for the elevators. Pei Youwen jumped, turning his head to shout after her, "What are you going to do? Tattle on me again?"
"None of your business! You got rid of so many people from my department, so don’t I need to apply to hire a new batch? And the finance department needs the Chairman’s approval to start external recruitment. What do you think I’m going to do?"
"Then go ahead."
"Get lost, get lost, get lost! Get out of my sight!" Mo Nana looked like she wanted to kick him, taking a few quick steps forward in her slender high heels.
Pei Youwen snorted. "Who wants to see you, anyway?" he muttered, his pace quickening.
...
Unlike Chen Yuan, who was bogged down by company trivialities, Jiang Yao was filled with joy on her drive back to Fengting District. She hummed softly along with the soothing music in the car, while Wan, in the passenger seat, watched her with a smile.
Wan swayed her shoulders gently to the rhythm of Jiang Yao’s humming.
"I’ve pretty much finished setting everything up. You can help me take a look later. If it looks good, I’m planning to surprise Chen tomorrow. I’ll have someone come set up the lighting in the morning, and he happens to have no classes in the afternoon."
"Sure, I’ll help you check it out later," Wan replied.
She looked down to adjust her bow tie and fluffed her hair. Wan was actually dressed up very nicely today, in a blouse and short skirt. Her shoulder-length hair was dyed brown, and at first glance, she looked a bit like Ai Haibara from Detective Conan.
She had a youthful face, and she’d gotten the short haircut specifically to cosplay.
When they had met up earlier, Jiang Yao had showered her with praise, saying how cute her outfit was.
Wan was a peculiar person. At the company, she was very introverted, wore black-rimmed glasses, and only focused on her work at her desk, rarely interacting with anyone. She often carried a canvas tote bag with her things.
She seemed very ordinary at first glance.
But it was a different story after work. She came alive, wearing all sorts of beautiful clothes to events or going out to play board games with friends. Even her colleagues wouldn’t recognize her if they ran into her, because the difference was just that stark.
"Sometimes I really envy your boyfriend. To have someone who puts so much effort into planning surprises... two of them, no less... He’s so lucky," Wan lamented.
"It’s not like that. It’s about give and take. The young master is very good to me, too."
"See, that’s what I mean. That’s why I envy your boyfriend. So many people in this world just wait to reap the rewards without sowing, but to find a relationship where your effort is actually reciprocated... that’s already incredibly rare."
