20 -18: The Guilt of Killing a Companion

When Zhang Zhongmou stopped his assault and lifted his head, the green beast blood had dyed his skull green.

Only now did he realize that the small Goblin Beast’s head under his frenzied blows had become like a battered watermelon, utterly smashed into a pulp.

It was already dead.

Zhang Zhongmou stood bewildered for a moment, then let out a hearty bout of laughter, excitement filling his voice.

He finally understood, that since his special power was in his head, he could use it to ram and kill these monsters just as effectively.

“Hahaha—” Zhang Zhongmou burst into excited laughter, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in his back as he was hit by another small Goblin Beast that had caught up.

“Damn it—” Zhang Zhongmou was sent flying and landed face-first, pain twisting his features.

He let out an enraged scream as he turned around, thankful that Qin Jiagui had already caught up and had fiercely swung his weapon.

With a “thud”, akin to hitting a balloon, the blow was incredibly powerful, exploding the small Goblin Beast’s head and splattering green blood and gore all around.

There was a light “pat pat” as some of the green blood and gore unavoidably splattered onto Ning Yan’s face, turning it as pale as snow.

She let out a terrifying scream and hastily wiped off the disgusting remnants.

At this moment, everyone was fighting for their lives, and Zhang Runsheng’s screams were the most chilling of all.

A large Goblin Beast had suddenly appeared.

Not only had Su Yu noticed, but Ma Ziye, Zhao Shichang, Qin Jiagui, Hu Ge, and others did as well.

The thought of the large Goblin Beast’s terror and ferocity flashed through everyone’s mind, a nameless fear, tension, and excitement rushed forth.

There were those who feared it and those like Hu Ge who were excited by it.

Su Yu had killed a large Goblin Beast before, and that had led to the evolution of his infinitely powerful Black Iron Lizard Beast Claw.

Hu Ge too wanted to kill a large Goblin Beast in order to gain a stronger evolution.

So even if he was slightly later than Su Yu, he gave up on the small Goblin Beast before him and rushed towards the large Goblin Beast instead.

Su Yu extended his sharp claws, producing an air-tearing sound and rapidly lunged at the large Goblin Beast that was currently rolling.

After evolving into the “First-Level Black Iron Warrior”, his strength, speed, sight, and coordination had all increased by a level, allowing him to strike as fast as lightning.

With a “hiss”, the large Goblin Beast let out a scream.

Despite it quickly rolling over, its back was still widely torn by Su Yu’s claw.

The large Goblin Beast’s reaction was just as quick, swinging its left arm, and while entangled with Zhang Runsheng, hit Su Yu.

Zhang Runsheng was desperately trying to latch onto the large Goblin Beast, hoping to take it down with him even if it cost him his life, but sadly, this was just wishful thinking.

The power and reaction speed of the Goblin Beast were far superior to his.

It merely needed to apply a tad bit of force to send him flying.

Caught off guard, Zhang Runsheng was suddenly thrown at Su Yu, who was forced to stop and catch him.

“Hiss!”

With a movement as swift as a whirlwind, the large Goblin Beast threw Zhang Runsheng aside, and in the same motion turned around to bury its right arm deep into Zhang Runsheng’s chest.

Its claw emerged from Zhang Runsheng’s chest and grabbed hold of Su Yu’s, ready to spear him too and impale him on its arm.

“Ah—” Su Yu let out a terrifying scream, his chest in immense pain.

In this life-or-death situation, he activated the special power in his left arm causing a swelling and a popping sound like beans exploding, and then suddenly, patches of black scales appeared.

Su Yu clenched his left fist and delivered a heavyweight blow.

In this critical moment, he couldn’t worry about Zhang Runsheng’s survival.

He lashed out with his punch, the “Rending Claw” striking like a drill and produced an enormous force.

It pierced through Zhang Runsheng’s chest, turning the blood and flesh into a spiraling column.

Blocking Zhang Runsheng’s body, the large Goblin Beast’s right hand pierced his, grabbing hold of Su Yu’s chest.

But, Su Yu’s “Rending Claw” was just half an instant slower and had similarly pierced Zhang Runsheng’s chest and arrived in front of the Goblin Beast’s chest.

The “Rending Claw”, a horrifying skill, with its spiraling power and suction pressure, even before it neared the Goblin Beast, made it asphyxiated.

The threat of death invaded the Goblin Beast’s mind instantly.

It suddenly understood that even though it was faster than this human and could easily pierce through his body, it might not be able to kill him.

But this human’s counterattack, could definitely take its life.

The understanding Goblin Beast had its five claws already an inch deep into Su Yu’s chest muscles when it decided to retract its claws and push off with its feet to escape.

With a “whoosh”, the Goblin Beast stepped back three meters in the blink of an eye, letting out a final howl, eyes rolled back and miserably fell dead on the spot.

Having been struck by the Goblin Beast through the body, and then hit again by Su Yu’s “Rending Claw”, his chest along with the organs inside had crushed into a pulp.

It was impossible for him to survive.

Of course, even if he hadn’t been hit by Su Yu’s “Rending Claw”, his death was inevitable.

Having narrowly escaped death, Su Yu felt a sense of exhaustion.

He withdrew his hand from Zhang Runsheng’s mutilated chest and watched as Zhang Runsheng’s corpse, with eyes wide open as if unwilling to succumb, slowly slumped to the ground.

Seeing his left hand drenched in Zhang Runsheng’s blood, he froze.

Even though Zhang Runsheng was destined to die from being pierced by the Goblin Beast, this didn’t lessen the guilt Su Yu felt from burying his “Rending Claw” into Zhang Runsheng’s chest.

In a daze, Su Yu could feel the accusing stare from Zhang Runsheng’s wide-open, death-filled eyes.

It seemed as if he was blaming him for his death, as if he was questioning why Su Yu had used his “Rending Claw” to kill him.

While Su Yu stood in shock, Hu Ge had already courageously lunged forward, taking advantage of the Goblin Beast’s retreat and flung his weapon towards the beast’s head with all his strength.

If this blow hit, then Hu Ge was confident he could shatter the Goblin Beast’s skull and take its life.

He would then, like Su Yu, evolve into a stronger power and enjoy the revered gaze of everyone.

There was a slight “whoosh” and in the mix of excitement and nervousness, Hu Ge’s swing missed its mark. frёewebnoѵēl.com

The retreating Goblin Beast had apparently vanished into thin air.

Hu Ge paused, his momentum carrying him forward, feeling a sudden chill on his back followed by a clear sensation of something penetrating his body from the back through to the chest.
