58 -56: Fragile Friendship

Just as he dashed forward, several black lights shot into Su Yu’s left arm, making the Gasification Mysterious Power within him even stronger and robust.

But it was still far from affecting the tightly closed “gate” at his left shoulder.

The promotion of the Black Iron Warrior seemed increasingly difficult.

After relentlessly killing several goblins, Su Yu hardly paused before rushing up to the fourth floor.

“Su Yun, Su Yun, where are you?” Su Yu yelled as he ran.

The entire dormitory building was swarming with goblins, and women’s screams echoed occasionally.

But Su Yu could not afford to save them, his mind was focused on reaching Su Yun’s room.

“Su Yun—” Su Yu roared, lifting one foot to kick a goblin that had just blocked his path, sending it flying off the fourth-floor balcony.

With a “thump”, it fell from the fourth floor and died instantly.

As he ran down the corridor, all the goblins blocking the way were either kicked aside or killed with a single claw strike by him.

In just a few seconds, Su Yu had reached Su Yun’s room.

But, he beheld a horrific sight: a woman lay prostrate with a large gash in her back on a big box full of clothes, seemingly dead.

Another woman lay face down on the bed, her head resembling a smashed watermelon, and blood had stained the white bedsheet red.

A goblin wielding a shovel stood in the room with two surviving girls.

The goblin had just slammed its wooden shield into one of the girls.

The girl screamed, spat blood and was flung backward.

The other girl, startled, managed to catch her.

This girl who had lent a hand was Su Yun.

The girl who was grossly injured and spat blood was Lin Xiaolu, Su Yun’s roommate, and friend whom Su Yu recognized.

Seeing Su Yun alleviated some of Su Yu’s fears, his heart which was hanging mid-air had finally returned to place.

Just as Su Yun managed to support her everyday good friend, Lin Xiaolu, the goblin roared wildly and swung the shovel again at Lin Xiaolu who had just spat out blood.

If she were hit by this swing, it would be enough to blast off half of Lin Xiaolu’s head.

“Damn!” Su Yu grunted, pumping his feet and striking out.

Almost at the same time, Lin Xiaolu suddenly pushed, sending Su Yun, who had just supported her, tumbling towards the incoming shovel, while she herself shrank back.

All these happened in the blink of an eye.

Su Yun was so mortified that she was momentarily stunned—couldn’t believe that her best friend, her roommate with whom she shared everything, Lin Xiaolu, would push her into the trajectory of the shovel to save herself?

How…

how was it possible?

It could not be—

However, facing the oncoming shovel, Su Yun’s eyes widened, almost immediately envisioning her fate.

“Damn it!” Su Yu was greatly alarmed, and then gripped by a surge of anger.

He was fast, if Lin Xiaolu hadn’t pushed Su Yun, he could have easily dispatched the goblin and saved them.

But Lin Xiaolu, out of fear and selfishness, had pushed Su Yun toward the shovel, putting Su Yun in a dangerous situation.

This forced Su Yu to roar, his footsteps causing the ground to crack, as he darted forward like an arrow and grabbed the goblin with both hands, just as the shovel was about to hit Su Yun.

Then he hurled himself and the goblin out of the way.

Landing on the ground, he broke into a cold sweat and activated the “Rending Claw” to strike.

With a “pop”, he smashed the goblin’s head into a pulp.

Su Yun had thought she was done for.

But then, Su Yu suddenly appeared like a flying general, grabbing the goblin from behind and flying it out in an oblique roll, allowing her to escape disaster.

Su Yun was momentarily incredulous as if in a dream before she exclaimed in surprise: “Su Yu?” Remembering what had just happened, she was suddenly scared, her body went limp, and she started crying.

Su Yu stood up, took a step forward, and Su Yun fell right into his arms.

“Don’t cry!” He patted Su Yun’s back, helping her to stand up, then immediately reached out and grabbed the collar of Lin Xiaolu, who shivering in fear was still rooted to the spot.

Such was Su Yu’s strength that with one tug, he lifted the petite Lin Xiaolu off the ground.

“Damn you, you almost got Su Yun killed!” Su Yu’s face was distorted in fury.

He couldn’t tolerate anyone hurting Su Yun.

Lin Xiaolu looked terrified, her face pale.

Her legs suddenly started shaking, Su Yu smelled something foul and realized to his disgust that she had wet herself in fear.

Su Yun also remembered everything that had just transpired, her face turned a little pale too.

With a trembling voice, she said, “Lin Xiaolu, we were best friends…

why…

why did you…”

Lin Xiaolu was biting her lower lip hard.

She looked terrified at Su Yu’s black scales and claws on his left arm as if her soul had left her body.

Her complexion turned from white to purple, her lips were quivering but she couldn’t utter a word.

Suddenly, Su Yun felt sympathy for her.

She said dejectedly, “Forget it, Su Yu, let her go.” She realized that her friendship with Lin Xiaolu was over.

But in this world where death lurked at every corner, who would even bother about friendships?

Su Yu threw Lin Xiaolu aside, Lin Xiaolu fell to the ground with a moan, and then slowly pulled her legs up and sat up.

She dared not look at Su Yu and Su Yun, merely kept her head down, her hands tightly holding onto her sleeves, not knowing whether her silence was out of fear or regret.

“Come with me,” Su Yu’s fury had subsided, realizing that people were inherently selfish, despite Lin Xiaolu’s despicable character, her actions were understandable.

He took Su Yun by the hand and started to leave.

Su Yun looked at the two other friends from her dormitory lying dead on the side, dared not look again for fear of bursting into tears, and let Su Yu pull her into the corridor.

“How come you’re here?” Su Yun was thinking about what had just happened, it still seemed incredible that Su Yu had shown up at the critical moment.

It felt almost like a scene out of a movie.

“Didn’t I tell you to wait for me a few days, I would come back for sure, when have I ever failed to keep a promise?” Seeing that Su Yun was safe, Su Yu felt somewhat relieved.

Spotting a goblin chasing another girl, he stretched out his hand and fired a “Tooth Burst”.

With a “pop”, blood spurted from the goblin’s head and its body rolled sideways.

Then pulling Su Yun by the hand, Su Yu quickly descended the stairs.

“Where are we going now?” Su Yun looked down from the corridor and saw that the floor below was filled with monsters wielding shovels and wooden shields, she could not help shivering.

“Don’t be afraid, aren’t I here?

I’m going to get you out of here, let’s get out of here and then we’ll talk.” Not wanting to explain further, Su Yu held Su Yun’s hand and rushed straight downstairs, as two more goblins sprang up to block his path, he surged forward and slashed left and right with the “Rending Claw”, instantly killing both goblins.
