Chapter 274 -274: No 300 Taels of Silver Buried Here
But since they had already exchanged so many coins, they definitely had to use them all up.
She went on to try for a little squirrel.
Just like last time, it took a whole bunch of coins before she could finally grab one, proving once again that skill had nothing to do with it.
After winning the toy, Su Meixi and Gu Wei walked to the movie theater, each holding a stuffed animal.
Gu Wei went to redeem the movie tickets and bought a large tub of popcorn and cola.
It had to be said that crime films were on the decline these days, even if they featured veteran stars from Gang City, mainland audiences weren’t particularly interested.
Nowadays, the mainland is very safe, so who would want to watch all this killing just to increase their own sense of insecurity?
As a result, there were only about a dozen people in the spacious movie theater.
Gu Wei and Su Meixi sat in the back rows; they had arrived early and after the movie started, a few more people trickled in late.
Crime movies tend to set a dark tone, so the lights in the theater were dimmed, but even so, Su Meixi clearly saw one of the latecomers was Xi Wanlin.
Xi Wanlin, holding a large tub of popcorn herself, was followed by a tall man.
Since Xi Wanlin was late, she didn’t look back and didn’t realize Su Meixi was seated in the back row.
She and Lu Lei chose seats in the front row, slightly to the right, isolated from the other moviegoers, effectively a couple’s spot.
Su Meixi saw that as soon as Xi Wanlin sat down, she took a handful of popcorn to feed the man next to her.
The man not only ate it but also purposely licked her fingers, and Xi Wanlin was not angry. Seizing the opportunity, the man kissed her cheek.
It looked quite loving.
Su Meixi wondered, she had heard from Xi Wanfen before that Xi Wanlin’s husband was a chubby guy.
Had he lost weight?
Seeing that Su Meixi’s focus wasn’t on the film but on someone else, Gu Wei couldn’t help but shake her eyes with his hand.
Su Meixi quickly turned her attention back to the film.
However, she felt the movie was so cliché, the actors were giving it their all, yet the plot was utterly predictable, and the street gunfights made one question the safety of Gang City.
She regretted choosing this one and wished she had gone for a romance instead.
She gnawed aggressively on the popcorn.
Gu Wei, however, seemed immersed, his attention never straying from the screen.
Su Meixi sneaked another few glances at Xi Wanlin, and what she saw made no difference, the two were now kissing.
She was taken aback. Was it because they were newlyweds that they were so passionate?
She and Gu Wei had been together for a while but rarely kissed so intensely in public.
Su Meixi struggled through another half hour of the film before she fell asleep.
Later, it was Gu Wei who woke her up, drooling.
“Is it over?” she asked as she looked at the screen that displayed the cast and crew’s credits.
Somewhat apologetically, she wiped away the drool, saying, “Sorry, I fell asleep without realizing it.”
Gu Wei smiled and asked, “Did you sleep well?”
“Pretty well.”

“That’s good; maybe you’re just tired.”
Su Meixi: “…”
Having an understanding husband is such a blessing.
She looked belatedly toward where Xi Wanlin had been sitting, but the two had already left.
Su Meixi and Gu Wei also left the theater.
It was evening, and Su Meixi said to Gu Wei, “How about we go for dinner?”
“What would you like to eat?”
Su Meixi had only tried coconut chicken here with the Xi Family.
So she said, “Anything but coconut chicken is fine.”
Understanding her preference, Gu Wei didn’t ask further and took her to a Thai restaurant.
As soon as they entered, they bumped into Xi Wanlin again.
Though the restaurant actually provided excellent privacy, with each seat having its own partition, it was a busy day and Xi Wanlin’s group just happened to sit in a booth along the hallway, so Su Meixi ran into them.
Their eyes met, and in that instant, Su Meixi saw the guilt in Xi Wanlin’s eyes.
Su Meixi then turned to the man next to Xi Wanlin. Xi Wanfen had once shown her a photo of Li Hengze. Li Hengze had a type of look that couldn’t be handsome even if he slimmed down.
Therefore, Su Meixi was certain that this man was not Xi Wanlin’s husband.
Xi Wanlin was having an affair!
Fortunately, Su Meixi was quick-witted. She greeted Xi Wanlin with, “What a coincidence.”
“How coincidental,” Xi Wanlin echoed.
“Are you out dining with a colleague?” Su Meixi asked.
“Yes, this is my colleague.”
Su Meixi pointed to Gu Wei, “My husband and I are here for a meal, so we won’t disturb you.”
“Alright, enjoy your meal.”
Xi Wanlin glanced at Gu Wei.
Gu Wei wasn’t very interested in them; he didn’t even look at Xi Wanlin, his gaze resting solely on Su Meixi.
At that moment, Xi Wanlin didn’t feel a shred of guilt about her affair.
Why could Su Meixi find such a good-looking husband, while she had to face a fat slob every day?
Lu Lei asked from beside her, “Who are those two?”
Xi Wanlin wasn’t foolish enough to discuss her family issues with Lu Lei. An affair was an affair, and family matters were family matters; they shouldn’t be mixed.
Su Meixi and Gu Wei also took their seats, with Gu Wei continually smiling at Su Meixi.
“Why are you laughing?” Su Meixi asked.
Gu Wei laughed and said, “You just gave yourself away a little bit there.”
“Was it that obvious? You also figured out they were having an affair?”
“Of course.”
Su Meixi said, “If I didn’t say that, wouldn’t it be awkward for everyone? Now that I have, it’s no longer awkward for anyone, so it serves a purpose, right?”
Gu Wei nodded, “My wife is always right.”
The couple began ordering. Su Meixi rarely ate Thai food, but she found the dishes to be quite tangy and appetizing.
She remarked, “Zhou Yuan craved Thai food when she was pregnant. Tangy and spicy. When I get pregnant, I want to eat this, too.”
Gu Wei nodded, “Naturally, you can. If you want to eat it, we can come here. If we can’t come, we can have it delivered.”
Su Meixi then asked, “But aren’t you planning to change careers? Where will you be assigned then?”
Gu Wei looked up at her, “Where would you like to go?”
She laughed and asked, “Where I want to go, you can be assigned there?”
“That’s a given.”
So nothing was officially decided yet.
Su Meixi thought about it and said, “Never mind, I don’t have anywhere particular I want to go. Wherever you go, I will follow.”
Gu Wei asked with a smile, “Who are you calling a pig or dog?”
“Whoever responds is the one.”
“…”
Xi Wanlin’s meal was consumed with anxiety because she had encountered Su Meixi.
In her view, Su Meixi was the type who seemed calm and unbothered on the surface but liked to stir things up in secret.
Two words: hypocrite.
Otherwise, why would she meet Xi Wanfen in private, and why was she so entangled with the Xi Family?
Now that she and Lu Lei were having an affair outside, even though Su Meixi superficially called him a “colleague”, it was indeed a case of “protesting too much”, because the word “colleague” was too deliberate.
Why must it be a colleague? Why not an old classmate or a business partner?
