Affinity: Chaos-Chapter 1812: An Invitation From The City Lord
Grey was a little worried that the City Lord wanted to inquire about the outside world, but the moment he heard him speak, he knew he was worrying over nothing. City Lord Vaughn didn't speak about the outside world, rather, he brought out a map. Spreading the map before Grey he explained.
"I acquired this map some years ago. Following it, I tried to explore the place alone."
"And?" Seeing the City Lord pause, Grey asked with some confusion on his face.
"I almost lost my life." City Lord Vaughn gave a self-deprecating laugh.
"Then why are you bringing the map out? Of what use is the information to me?" Grey might be in a hurry to increase his strength, that doesn't mean he would carelessly charge towards any treasure he heard about.
The City Lord is an Eighth stage Sovereign, a genuine powerhouse, yet he almost lost his life to it. If even he almost lost his life to it, why should Grey try to explore such a dangerous place? freewebnøvel.coɱ
Before refining the blood essence of Jacob Vaergahl, he would've been immediately tempted by the map and its potential rewards. Fortunately, his gains from the cave abode is actually enough for him to leave this place immediately without any regrets. He's supposed to stay a year or so, but after just a few weeks, he felt ready to leave this place.
"When I explored it, I was still only a Sixth stage Sovereign. At the time, I indeed almost lost my life, but it was due to my negligence. With my current strength, I don't need to worry about that fear." City Lord Vaughn explained.
"Then why are you telling me about it? Don't tell me you're planning to invite me?" Grey could already guess what the City Lord wanted to ask of him. Bringing up the topic of the map meant that the City Lord had the intention to invite him for this expedition.
"It's as Little Friend said, I indeed do have plans of inviting you to come along with me. Of course, we'll discuss how the spoils will be shared among us after finding them." City Lord Vaughn told Grey his intentions of coming here.
"City Lord thinks too highly of me, I only know a few tricks. I will be of no use to you there." Grey politely refused. He didn't know the City Lord enough to travel with him. He isn't afraid that he had ulterior motives, knowing that these people didn't have any idea how the space element works, he was confident that even in an encirclement of multiple Peak Sovereigns, he could escape. In the Aurora Continent where knowledge of the space element is known far and wide, Grey was still confident he could escape from the encirclement of a few Peak Sovereigns, much less this place that didn't have a clue about it.
"If you couldn't help I wouldn't have made the trip." City Lord Vaughn didn't expect Grey to accept his invitation straight away. In fact, if Grey had accepted straight away, he would've been worried.
"How can I be of help there?" Grey raised a brow, staring at the City Lord curiously.
The City Lord didn't speak, only giving Grey a meaningful look. A second later, Grey raised a brow and looked at the City Lord seriously, "You're sure?"
"A hundred percent." City Lord Vaughn nodded with absolute certainty.
"If that's the case, I don't mind making a trip with you." Grey changed his mind after receiving a voice transmission from the City Lord. Neither Lord Harry nor Sir Xavier knew about the City Lord's voice transmission, they weren't strong enough to sense the subtle vibrations made by a strand of the City Lord's spiritual energy as it shot towards Grey. Whatever he said to Grey was enough to get him to change his mind, and he was certain of this hence the reason he told him.
Lord Harry and Sir Xavier were still trying to understand why Grey was adamantly refusing to go on the trip when he suddenly agreed.
The City Lord and his entourage didn't stay in the McCall Family's Manor any longer. Since he had achieved the purpose of his visit, there was no point in lingering there any further.
Grey saw them off before going to meet up with those from the McCall Family once again.
The McCall Family Manor main hall.
All six Old men were present, but this time, there were ten others, all old looking too. Of the ten, three of them were women, all with gray hair. They each looked at Grey with interest. They've all heard of the youth who saved the Family Head and even made the City Lord pay the McCall Family a visit. The City Lord wouldn't even necessarily give an audience to anyone from the McCall Family due to their low strength. However, Grey's presence changed all that. Everyone in the City knew that City Lord Vaughn visited the McCall Family.
Grey looked at the increased number of people, he didn't feel any pressure standing in their presence.
"Young Lord Grey, are you sure we don't have to worry about the City Lord?" The Old man in black asked, he was quite afraid of the City Lord. However, the dear he felt for the City Lord didn't measure up to what he felt for Grey. He felt genuine dread for the latter. From the short encounter, he already knew for a fact that the City Lord didn't seem like he wanted to make trouble for Grey.
The City Lord's Manor has always been well-known for its ruthlessness. If even the domineering City Lord's Manor didn't dare to show their arrogance in front of Grey, who were the McCall Family?
"There's nothing to worry about. The incident from before has been sorted out and they even apologized. Oh yeah, if you want any remuneration for that day, just send someone over to tell them you want it." Grey said offhandedly. When everyone understood the meaning of his words, everyone sucked in cold air.
