After Divorce, Billionaire Ex Found Me Pregnant-Chapter 226 Special - : #12
Chapter 226: Chapter 226 Special Chapter: #12
Anastasia had fallen asleep after her call with Megan, only to be awoken to the sound of someone knocking on her front door.
Reluctantly, she slipped out of bed and made her way towards the front door and without checking who was at the door, opened it.
When her eyes landed on the person standing in front of her, her expression switched from surprised to angry, then back to surprise, because she had not expected to see her mother standing in front of her door after so long.
“At times I want to believe that you’re blind to my call, but then I see you winning all these cases on national Television and realize, oh wait, my daughter does have eyes.” Pushing her way into Anastasia’s apartment, Fiona dropped her purse and coat on the chair and turned to face her daughter. “Give me one good reason why you’ve been avoiding my calls?”
“Didn’t Mason pass along my message?” Anastasia questioned, closing the door and heading to the kitchen to pour herself a glass of water.
While doing so, she didn’t fail to notice how clean the kitchen was and the package soup in the freezer.
It was Lloyd’s doing, she was sure of it.
“You must have been joking.” Fiona scoffed. “I take my time and arrange these dates for you so that you don’t end up in a situation like your previous relationship, and the best you can do is shame me by not showing up?”
“Well, you wouldn’t have to endure the ‘shame’ if only you respect the fact that I’m not ready for another relationship. Shouldn’t you know this, as my mother.”
Fiona flinched when her daughter fixed her with a look that said it all. “I’m just trying to help you.” She defended.
“You can’t help me find love.” Anastasia countered, the tone in her voice stating that the conversation should come to an end soon.
Fiona took the hint and nodded. “You’re right.” Finally, she raised the bag she had come with. “Here, I brought these from you.”
“What is it?” Walking towards her mother, thankful that she had dropped the matter easily, Anastasia took the bag and peeped into it.
“Just some pastries and stuff.”
“Ah, thanks, mom.” Anastasia smiled and her mother smiled back, the awkward air between them fading away.
“Anyway, I have to get going. I have work to handle at the department store.”
Of course she did. Being the CEO of one of her stepfather’s most popular department store, Anastasia was well aware of how busy her mother always was.
But she wasn’t complaining, because during her teenage years, she had gotten used to the woman’s complete absence from her life and could now go months without even speaking to her.
“Sure. I’ll enjoy these.”
Fiona smiled, lightly. “Good.” She turned to leave, but then stopped and turned around, much to Anastasia’s surprise, she walked up to her and gently touched her cheek. “I’m glad that you’re okay.” She spoke softly.
The gesture surprised Anastasia. Her mother rarely showed any signs of affection towards her, even less after she had remarried.
But before Anastasia could fully register her mother’s action, Fiona was back to being herself.
“And since you’re fine, hurry up and get married. Do you know how many of my friend’s daughters your age are already married?” Muttering this, she walked towards the door, leaving Anastasia to shake her head.
What had she expected.
“Bye mom.” She called out, earning a backwards wave from the woman as she existed the house.
When she heard the front door close, Anastasia let out a sigh. “What a character.”
Shaking her head, she dropped the bag on the coffee table and plopped down on the couch, wondering how she should spend the rest of her day, but then she heard her phone ringing all the way in her room.
Groaning, she got up and walked to her room, taking her phone from her nightstand and glancing at the caller ID.
When she saw it was Lloyd calling, her face immediately turned neutral, not sure how to feel after seeing he was the one calling.
Feelings sure were complicated, she thought as she picked the call and pressed the phone to her ear.
“Hello?”
“Hi.” Came Lloyd’s voice from the other end. “How are you feeling?”
“Better.” And it was all thanks to him. “Thank you, for bringing me home and preparing the hangover soup.” She hesitated before adding. “I’ll handle the case with Lynks to show my gratitude.”
“Oh, that case has been scrapped.” Lloyd nonchalantly informed.
“Why?”
“Because I no longer had any use for it. The goal of that case was to bring me closer to you,” Anastasia’s heart fluttered at the statement. “But I guess it did more harm than good.”
She was silent for a while.
“Then, is there something else you’d like in exchange?”
It was Lloyd’s turn to be quiet, not because he was searching for an answer, but rather because he was contemplating whether to be as forward as he used to be.
Sure, he wanted to continue the chase on Anastasia, but didn’t want to scare her away.
A few seconds more had gone by before he thought, ‘screw it!’
“Yes,” He started. “There’s one thing I would like.”
Anastasia found herself chewing on her lower lip as she asked. “And what is it?”
“Go on a date with me.”
Anastasia’s breath hitched and her heart thudded against her chest. She had expected something like this, but despite the preparation, still found herself taken aback by the request.
She should have said no. She was well aware that saying no was the right answer, but instead, her mouth betrayed her.
“Fine. But if you make me waste my time like the last time, I won’t be responsible for what happens next.”
Lloyd chuckled and she could hear the happiness in his voice. “Yes Ma’am. How does tomorrow sound?” ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Anastasia glanced at her calendar and saw that she’d be busy until Friday.
“I’m gonna be busy all week.” Lloyd nearly deflated at her words, that is until she said, “Let’s do Friday.”
The smile that spread across his face could clearly be heard in his voice. “Alright.”
Anastasia wasn’t aware, but she subtly smiled at the sound of his voice. “Don’t make me regret this, Riley.”
“I won’t.” He softly replied.
And he truly wouldn’t.
