Chapter 193: Chapter 193: The Mysterious Brain Circuitry…
Li Lingyang’s forehead throbbed with bulging veins, “Stop making a scene.”
“How is this making a scene? Anyway, once you and Miss Shen reconcile, I’ll be left with no other choice but to die. Rather than that, it’s better to leave on my own terms!”
Chen Bao pursed his little lips, but his big eyes were watery, showing a mix of pitiful and stubborn defiance.
Li Lingyang’s face didn’t look too pleased, “The reason I’m defending Shen Jiangqing’s reputation is that I don’t want Chengcheng and Doudou to be talked about in the future as having a criminal mother. Rest assured, I haven’t forgotten what she did to you and I will definitely give you a satisfactory explanation.”
Chen Bao paid him no mind, “When you’re ready to give me that explanation, that’s when I’ll come back.”
“You child, what nonsense are you talking about…” Granny Li watched anxiously as her precious great-grandson was about to move to an orphanage–that was absolutely out of the question!
“Granny didn’t know about your existence before, which is why you suffered so much in the orphanage. Now that you’ve come back, how can you go to an orphanage again?”
“My dear child, rest assured! Some people may not act decently, but Granny will definitely stand by you!”
“I’ll go to the police station and file a report tomorrow! I want to see who dares to cover this up!”
Chen Bao, soft-hearted to a fault, threw himself into Granny Li’s arms and hugged her tightly, “Granny, thanks for your care, but I really don’t want to stay any longer because every time I see Chengcheng, it reminds me of those terrible people!”
“This is…” Granny Li was at a loss; living together with Chengcheng did indeed mean they’d run into each other all the time.
It was all Shen Jiangqing’s fault, and Li Lingyang’s too.
Of all the women in the world, why did he have to get involved with Shen Jiangqing?
“Alright, I’m leaving now. The cab I called has arrived at the door!” Chen Bao patted Granny Li’s shoulder and, with a decisive turn, slung his backpack over his shoulder and left the Li Mansion.
Granny Li wanted the servants to stop and persuade him, but Li Lingyang stopped everyone. The kid was dead set on leaving–he couldn’t be persuaded to stay.
At the gates of the Li Mansion, Chen Bao got into a rideshare car and sped away.
Li Lingyang stood on the second-floor balcony, watching the scene from afar.
The little guy was full of vigor, beaming with excitement as he scrambled into the car.
He had a premonition that Chen Bao wasn’t heading to an orphanage, but to Ning Yichu’s place.
“Poor Chen Bao…” Granny Li, appearing from somewhere, scowled at Li Lingyang with a look of sorrow, “Growing up without a real mother and almost being hurt by his prospective stepmother! In any other family, that heartless wretch would’ve been sent to the police station long ago…”
Li Lingyang frowned, catching the indirect criticism from Granny Li.
Without any retort or explanation, Li Lingyang picked up his car keys and left the house…
Chen Bao arrived at Ning Yichu’s house without a hitch, and when Ning Yichu saw how lively Chen Bao had become, a clear surprise flickered across her eyes, followed by joy, “Chen Bao?”
“Mommy, did you miss me?” Chen Bao said excitedly as he lunged to Ning Yichu’s side and hugged her thigh tightly.
“How come you’re here at this time?” Ning Yichu thought the little guy had run away from home and instinctively glanced outside; Doudou wasn’t there, nor were any other servants.
Chen Bao briefly mentioned his reason for running away, “I don’t feel like eating whenever I see that scumbag dad. Mommy, I’ll surely help you get revenge!”
Ning Yichu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry after hearing this.
Regardless, she was overjoyed to have Chen Bao back by her side. She immediately tidied up the bedroom and prepared his favorite braised pork for dinner.
After a hearty meal, Chen Bao patted his round belly and let out a satisfied burp, somewhat ignoring his image.
Ningning pouted her little mouth, “Brother, you’re making me suspect that you didn’t get enough to eat at the Li Family.”
“That’s because none of the Li Family’s cooking skills can compare to Mommy’s,” Chen Bao said with conviction.
Ning Yichu couldn’t help but smile, quickly tidied up the dishes, and took the two kids downstairs for a walk, to prevent the little ones from getting too full and having trouble resting later.
Even with the recent hot searches causing a stir online, Ning Yichu briefly pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind.
But just after returning from the walk, Ning Yichu sensed a gaze watching her from the shadows.
“Mommy, look, isn’t that scumbag dad?” Ningning pointed with her fair little hand, and Ning Yichu followed her gaze to see a tall and straight figure standing under the trees at the base of the apartment complex.
Li Lingyang met Ning Yichu’s dark eyes and pursed his lips slightly.
“He couldn’t possibly be here to catch me, right?” Chen Bao misunderstood, his little face tensing up. He had told the scumbag dad he was going to the orphanage, but ended up here!
Scumbag dad wouldn’t be so petty, would he?
The next moment, Li Lingyang strode over to the trio, his gaze fixed on Ning Yichu. “Chen Bao hasn’t been causing you trouble, has he?”
Chen Bao, “??”
Why does it feel like this is going in a weird direction?

Ning Yichu detected a hint of concern in his voice and almost got goosebumps, “No, he’s been good. Is there something you want?”
Li Lingyang glanced at the two children, then finally said, “Last night, did you go to the Southern City Hotel?”
The Southern City Hotel was precisely where she had gone the previous night, offering herself up for nothing!
Ning Yichu’s pupils shrank as she denied it with a cold face, “No.”
“Then why did I see you there?” Li Lingyang asked calmly.
Ning Yichu did not want to complicate their already tangled relationship further. “Really? Then perhaps you were seeing things, since you were drunk last night, right?”
“How do you know I was drunk?”
“President Li, it’s easy to forget things when you’re important. Don’t you remember? Young Master Mu called me, telling me you’d had too much to drink and were going crazy with the wine,” Ning Yichu came up with a plausible explanation on the spot.
Li Lingyang, however, shattered her defenses with a single sentence, “I checked your itinerary from last night; you definitely went to that hotel! Ning Yichu, that woman last night was you, wasn’t it?”
Ning Yichu had no idea about Shen Jiangqing stepping in to take her place and only felt that Li Lingyang was being insufferably annoying.
If he already had his answer and knew what was what, why did he have to come and dig to the bottom of it?
Especially in front of the two children!
She pulled Li Lingyang over to a more secluded tree but still within view of the two children, then spoke with a cold twist in her brow, “President Li, being bitten by a dog once is no different from twice, you don’t need to come to remind me specially! Also, even if you got Shen Jun out on bail, it doesn’t mean this matter is settled. I will bring the real culprit to justice, I won’t let Ningning and Chen Bao stay in danger!”
Ning Yichu spoke with earnest resolve, yet Li Lingyang was completely unmoved, with another thought flashing through his mind—
“Did you go to the obstetrics and gynecology department this morning because I was too harsh last night?”
“…” Ning Yichu’s mind froze for a moment, then she turned a shade paler, thinking, what sort of thought process was that?
