Chapter 188: Chapter 188: Like an Old Lady

Hearing Xia Chuyi’s words, Uncle Xia realized what she meant and nodded vehemently, "Right, Huo Commander is not the kind of person to deceive anyone."

The doctor, half believing and half doubting, began to prepare for the surgery.

After informing the doctor, the group hurried back to the ward.

As they reached the door of the ward, Xia Chuyi heard intermittent low crying from inside, hesitated, slowing her pace before entering.

"Xiao Gui’s mother, I’m telling you, there’s been a turn of events," Uncle Xia repeated the news to Aunt Xia.

Aunt Xia’s eyes, red with tears, immediately widened, "His father, are you telling the truth?"

"Yes, absolutely certain!" Uncle Xia said with conviction.

Aunt Xia’s tears started flowing again at once, "Good, good!"

She was overwhelmed with excitement.

"The doctor said that with Professor Guo here, there’s a fifty percent chance of success for the surgery!" Aunt Xia, wiping her tears, cried and laughed at the same time.

Fifty percent... Xia Chuyi’s heart trembled.

In her excitement, she had nearly forgotten that the chance of a successful surgery was only fifty percent.

A fifty percent chance meant equal odds of life and death.

But even that fifty percent chance made Uncle Xia and Aunt Xia rejoice.

Xia Chuyi couldn’t help but bite her lip and lower her head.

"Knock knock knock." The ward door was tapped lightly, and she looked up.

"Huo Commander!" Uncle Xia exclaimed first.

"I’ve come to see Xiao Gui," Huo Shiqian said calmly.

Uncle Xia, not suspecting anything amiss, replied, "Thank you, Huo Commander. It must be for your sake that Professor Guo came to Ling County. Thanks for having him take the time to help Xiao Gui with the surgery."

Clearly, Uncle Xia believed that Professor Guo had been summoned because of a mission for Huo Shiqian.

Little did he know, Professor Guo had come for Zhao Xiao Gui.

Huo Shiqian didn’t explain, simply stating, "It’s not a problem."

Then, under the pretext of a hospital visit, Huo Shiqian remained in the ward.

Xia Chengzong... left the ward.

Huo Shiqian chatted with Uncle Xia, recounting many stories of soldiers who had been gravely injured but ultimately lived hale and hearty lives.

His storytelling wasn’t vivid, quite dry in fact, yet it unexpectedly engaged everyone.

Because what those present needed most was a miracle and they believed in miracles.

Particularly the miracles where the odds of healing were low, yet success was achieved.

An hour and a half later, the plane carrying Professor Guo arrived in Ling County.

"Professor Guo, is it really you?" The hospital director, with his team, personally welcomed Professor Guo at the entrance.

The attending physician was amazed.

He had not expected that Zhao Xiao Gui’s relatives would actually manage to bring Professor Guo here!

Professor Guo was a lean, elderly man and indeed had a very bad temper, with a stern face he directly asked, "Where’s the patient?"

Upon reaching the ward, Professor Guo naturally saw Huo Shiqian, but since it was a hospital setting, he only gave Huo Shiqian a dismissive glance before checking on Zhao Xiao Gui.

After thoroughly understanding the situation and the patient’s history, and re-examining the patient’s condition, he uttered,

"This surgery isn’t too difficult; there’s at least an eighty percent chance of success," Professor Guo casually declared.

"Eighty percent?" The first to exclaim in surprise was Xia Chuyi herself.

She was extraordinarily delighted.

Professor Guo immediately looked at her.

He saw her standing next to Huo Shiqian, their distance somewhat beyond what would be normal for just friends.

Professor Guo glanced at Xia Chuyi again and, furrowing his brow, asked, "Whose child from the compound is she?"

"Uncle Guo, she’s not," Huo Shiqian answered.

"Not?" Professor Guo expressed surprise for a moment, "Then why do I feel like she looks very familiar? Like an old lady from somebody’s family?"

Professor Guo meant his words literally.

However, the others misunderstood.

To say a young girl looked like an old lady? Indeed, this man did have a nasty temper.
