After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World-Chapter 1319: Desire to Help
While many of those who were in the evacuation houses were weak with more or less Level 10 as the above average level, most people knew how to fight and how to strategize, thanks to Alterra's training requirements.
They also grouped together with their own shields (though these were mostly Class E bone or wood equipment) and mobbed enemies together.
Fortunately, all the enemy powerhouses past level 25 were ambitious and wanted the Lord Token, so they wouldn't bother with useless massacres, probably thinking they could do that as they wanted once they got the token.
There were also Alterrans who were level 10 and therefore awakened, and used their skills whenever they could against their enemies.
While their elements were small, tiny, and untrained, they could still chip away enemy's defenses as long as they hit them often enough—and showering enemies with little embers, tiny wind blades, and so on was something they were more than happy to do.
Even some children managed to go out of the safety of their houses and attack. For instance, there was little Maumi and his friend Mamu, who went out to the balcony, hoping to join in the ongoing battles on the ground level. 1 freewebnσvel.cøm
They were both aborigines of the same age. Even if they came from different villages before living in Alterra, they had similar experiences and goals—that was to say: To become guards that'd protect their home!
Although their teachers had specifically told them it wasn't time for them to join the war, they naturally wanted to contribute too!
This was especially true for kids like Maumi and Mamu who were complimented for their skills!
"Go away! Leave our home!" Maumi yelled, throwing rocks he collected from his space. (They were part of the resources he was going to send to the Center, but now it would be used to distract enemies.) He would also stab down his small sword, targeting the enemies who neared the balconies.
His new friend Mamu did not fall behind, bravely using his bow and arrow to fight. Students had a miniature version of weapons for them to practice and train in school.
He went on the balcony and made shot after shot, targetting the known weakspots of humans.
His level was low and the damage was limited, but it would still sting if the shot was accurate enough and the distraction was welcomed by the guards fighting close-ranged below them.
Some enemies noticed this and wanted to attack, but there were plenty of guards near the house itself, so it was impractical to target the kids. And so, for a while, the two kids could cause minor inconveniences to the enemy, actually assisting in a few kills.
Then… Mamu saw his savior Shinho was about to get slashed from behind, he didn't think twice and shot at the enemy.
"WATCH OUT SHINHO!" he screamed, shooting his small bow and arrow—
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Shinho's attention was pulled back and he managed to avoid the enemy about to stab him. With a breath, he used one of his few skills to behead the enemy.
However, there were quite a few that surrounded him so he was unable to see the children. Some of the enemies had had enough, though and threw something random from their space back to the kids, and one of them ended up hitting Maumi.
"AH!" the child screamed, hit right on the chest. The item was not heavy, but because a man several levels higher threw it, it did cause damage.
"Maumi! Come back here!" Juna yelled, grabbing her son. She had been looking desperately for her son the past couple of minutes. When she heard he was in the balcony, she almost had a heart attack.
And then, when she opened the door and saw him getting attacked, and she swore she almost died.
The woman quickly pulled the child to get him treated, not noticing the orphaned Mamu on the other side of the balcony due to all the chaos.
Mamu didn't notice nor did he care. He had always been a fighter and he had been fighting even when he was small. It was why Shinho noticed him at all and brought him when they escaped their old village.
He really, really, liked Alterra and it angered him that these people wanted to take it away from them!
Eventually, his little arrow hit a level 16 man. It didn't injure him at all, but it did hurt a little, causing a bump. He also got distracted enough that he was slashed by one of the Alterran guards who had teamed up against him. When he saw it was a little kid he felt even more indignant.
"You little twerp!" he yelled, running to him, jumping up. His arms stretched to grab the boy, but a spear nabbed his leg mid-air, making him fall down and hit the wall.
BANG!
"Ahh!"
Mamu, shivering, looked down to see who saved him.
"Koo!" Mamu yelled, sniffling.
Koo was very close to the kids as he was mentally their age. He had the advantage of being large and strong so they liked him just as much as they loved the half-orcs.
He was a member of the temporary Guards, normal citizens with a long enough tenure who received tasks as if they were guards. This was valid in the duration of the war. Temporary Guards were also priority hires whenever official guard positions opened up.
He was also assigned to Cassie's Team. Although he had a lot of things he could not do, at least fighting by instinct was one of the things he was useful at. He had a large physique and good agility, which was an advantage.
He got assigned here because his mother, Jane, was in this evacuation group, and he naturally wanted to guard them.
"ORCSHIT!" the man yelled as he shot up, glaring at the person who stabbed his leg.
"So you want to die, then?!" The man yelled, lunging towards the large man. "I'll kill you!"
Maumi is Mauru's son (from Mauin Village, one of the first batch of aborigine refugees). Mamu (I know I'm sorry) was a kid Shinho rescued before they left their village during the Heat Wave.
