Akame ga Kill: Starting with Dual Kamui-Chapter 124: Encounter with the Three Beasts
Chapter 124 - 124: Encounter with the Three Beasts
"I guess so. Young people nowadays probably don't like that kind of heavy armor," Chouri said.
"Alright..."
Spear also felt that a small village like this was unlikely to have any powerful fighters—at least, she had never seen one before. With that thought, she stopped paying attention to the three men.
Chouri and Spear got into the carriage, and the caravan set off.
For most of the journey, Blayn and the others had been laying low. They couldn't afford to reveal their strength too easily, especially when facing average bandits or Danger Beasts. At most, they provided a little assistance without showing their true power. The bandits and Danger Beasts they encountered along the way were dealt with effortlessly.
"There sure have been a lot of bandits on this trip. We're already close to the Imperial Capital, yet the security situation is getting worse," Chouri sighed after yet another bandit attack.
Fortunately, he had his daughter traveling with him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to fend off so many ruthless criminals.
"Father, for the sake of the Empire's people, you're returning to the dark and corrupt Imperial Capital. I truly believe you're a great man," Spear said.
"I can't just hide anymore and watch a thousand-year-old empire be destroyed at the hands of that man. Now that I've decided to step back into the world, I must stop that wicked Prime Minister," Chouri said firmly.
After the former Emperor and Empress passed away, Chouri was stripped of his position as Prime Minister—by none other than the current Prime Minister, Honest. He had long suspected Honest of orchestrating the previous Emperor's death, but he had no solid proof.
Moreover, Honest had tried to eliminate him multiple times. To survive, Chouri had retreated into the mountains, far from the Imperial Capital. Yet every time he heard news of the capital's worsening state, his anger grew. This time, he could no longer stand by.
"I'll make sure to protect you, Father," Spear said.
"You've really grown up, Spear," Chouri sighed. "But I worry you'll be too strong to find a husband."
Hearing that, Spear's face turned bright red. "W-why are you bringing that up all of a sudden?!"
Just then, the carriage came to an abrupt stop, jolting both Chouri and Spear.
"What's going on? More bandits?" Chouri asked, his expression turning serious.
Spear immediately lifted the curtain and saw three figures standing ahead. Their hostile intent was clear. Without hesitation, she stepped out of the carriage, ready to fight. The guards also tightened their grips on their weapons.
Only Blayn recognized them—the Three Beasts under Esdeath.
Meanwhile, the Three Beasts didn't even take Chouri's group seriously. Not a single Teigu user among them—it was like offering up lambs for slaughter. Because of that, they hadn't even noticed Blayn in the back at first.
"Daidara, take care of them," Liver ordered.
Daidara grinned.
Just as he was about to start the massacre, someone unexpected stepped forward.
Blayn walked out from the crowd and stood at the front.
Seeing the crimson-eyed young man suddenly place himself in harm's way, Spear quickly warned him, "Those three give me a strange feeling. You should stay behind me."
Blayn, unfazed, replied, "It's fine. Leave them to me."
Spear was momentarily stunned by his confidence. For the first time, she experienced the feeling of being protected by a man.
"Lord Blayn? Why are you here?"
Daidara asked in shock.
Liver and Nyau were equally stunned. They never would have expected Lord Blayn to be traveling with the convoy of the former Prime Minister, Chouri.
"Lord Blayn?..."
Hearing the title, Spear couldn't help but turn to Blayn. "Do you know them? Does that mean they aren't actually our enemies?"
Blayn didn't have time to respond to Spear. Instead, he addressed the Three Beasts in front of him. "Go back. These people cannot die yet."
"That won't do. This is... an order from that person."
Daidara refused without hesitation. The "person" he referred to was, of course, Lady Esdeath.
Now that Blayn had somehow aligned himself with Chouri, even someone like Daidara—who usually thought of nothing but gaining experience—was forced to be more cautious.
"Although we hold Lord Blayn in great respect, this is a mission we must carry out."
Liver added firmly.
To them, Lord Blayn's status was second only to Lady Esdeath. However, that also meant her orders were absolute.
No matter who stood before them—even Blayn—they would never defy Lady Esdeath's command.
"We mean no offense, but we hope Lord Blayn will not stop us."
As soon as Nyau finished speaking, Daidara charged forward, aiming to eliminate Chouri and his people while deliberately avoiding Blayn.
His speed was so fast that neither Spear, Chouri, nor the guards could react in time.
However, he never managed to bypass Blayn.
Without warning, a white mask appeared on Blayn's face, and in his hand materialized the Gunbai Uchiwa.
With a swift motion, Blayn used the Gunbai to block Daidara's path. Under the gaze of his Mangekyō Sharingan, Daidara's speed gave him no advantage at all.
The immense force of Daidara's charge was instantly absorbed by the Gunbai, transformed into energy, and rebounded back at him.
Though the attack didn't cause serious harm, it was enough to send Daidara flying.
"So fast!"
It was only then that Spear processed what had just happened.
A wave of fear washed over her. If Blayn hadn't protected them, they would have been completely caught off guard—including herself.
The enemy was far stronger than she had anticipated. She knew she stood no chance against them.
And yet, even warriors of this level still treated Blayn with deep respect.
Just who was this mysterious young man?
...
As Spear watched Blayn's back, her eyes shimmered with intrigue.
Daidara, having been sent flying over ten meters, finally struggled to his feet, looking disheveled.
Liver and Nyau's expressions turned grim.
Lord Blayn was resolute in stopping them.
"This is your final warning. Next time, I won't hold back."
Blayn's voice was cold and unwavering.

At this, Liver and Nyau hesitated.
Had it been anyone else, they would have carried out Lady Esdeath's orders without question.
But the one standing in their way was Lord Blayn—Lady Esdeath's lover.
And that made things far more complicated...
