Chapter 36: Chapter 35: The hidden Bai Tian and Tian Bai
Chapter 36 -35: The hidden Bai Tian and Tian Bai
Manager Chen was surprised at the well-organized words spoken by Xiao’er, a child who grew up in the village.
Moreover, her dining etiquette was elegant, appropriate, and flawless.
His own daughter had learned her manners alongside their young lord, taught by a senior nanny from the palace.
Even the nanny had praised his daughter for her good manners.
However, in front of Xiao’er, his daughter seemed to be far behind.
Whilst the young girl sat quietly there, the corners of her mouth slightly lifting into a smile, meeting his gaze while she awaited his response.
She was dressed in coarse clothes, but it did not hinder the calm, collected, and confident demeanor that radiated from within her.
Strangely enough, she was reassuring and trustworthy.
He believed she was capable of growing the flowers.
“I’ll leave this to you, young lady,” he said.
“You’re too polite, Manager Chen.
I promise to do my best,” Xiao’er said, with a faint smile indicating her commitment.
The group continued their dinner while discussing other matters.
During the conversation, Manager Yao asked what Shen Chengyao had been up to, to which he revealed his intention of finding someone who could inquire about a family who left three years prior due to their daughter being poisoned by sword beans. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
He had a matter to ask about but was unable to find anyone who knew the family.
Upon hearing this, Manager Yao offered to help inquire about the issues.
After the meal, Manager Chen left a small packet of seeds for Xiao’er and excused himself, as there were many matters waiting for him to deal with back at the county.
After bidding Manager Yao goodbye, Shen Chengyao and Xiao’er climbed onto the bullock cart and left.
Manager Yao’s wine jar would be delivered in the afternoon.
With all the money that Xiao’er had earned, she wanted to buy things.
Moreover, since she had so many items in her space, she was looking for an opportunity to utilize them.
Quite conveniently, Shen Chengyao spotted the person he had been seeking in town.
He promptly parked the cart under a tree by the roadside.
“Xiao’er, wait here with the cart for me.
I’ve spotted the person I was looking for,” he said, then rushed off.
Xiao’er led the cart to the front of a grocery store and quickly went in to buy a few baskets and several sacks.
She then moved the cart to a secluded alley, intending to remove some items from her space.
However, just as she thought about doing so, Tian Bai’s voice rang in her mind, “Master, someone can see you.”
Surprised, Xiao’er instantly pretended to have taken a wrong turn and immediately left.
“Tian Bai, can you see if there are people around?” Xiao’er was overjoyed; this would make extracting items from her space far safer in the future.
“I can sense them,” Tian Bai’s voice echoed in her mind.
“Why didn’t you tell me before?”
“You didn’t ask, and I forgot,” Tian Bai seemed to think the issue was trivial.
“What else can you do?” Xiao’er thought it necessary to find out so she could better utilize these abilities and avoid wasting resources.
“Does predicting the weather count?” Tian Bai asked after some thought.
“Of course, it’s fantastic!” Without satellites or weather forecasts, this skill was extremely useful here.
“How about sensing natural disasters?” A wave of satisfaction washed over Xiao’er.
“Tian Bai, you’re amazing!”.
“Bai Tian, can’t you do anything?”
“I can sense the presence of treasures.”
“That powerful?” Bai Tian arrogantly raised his head to the sky, of course!
“Anything else?”
“Does flying and invisibility count?” The voice was so faint that one could hardly hear it—seemingly considering these trivial abilities.
“Of course, they do!” In response to their skills, Xiao’er gave a thumbs up in her heart, “You guys are great!”
To verify it, Xiao’er asked, “Are there any treasures nearby?”
“There’s a piece of precious jade in a junk shop on the next street.”
“We’ll take a look when we have time.
Right now, I’m going to take out some things from my space where no one can see me.”
“There’s no one in that alley now.”
Xiao’er quickly led the cart back to the same location.
After looking around and finding no one there, she magically filled each basket with fruit such as apples and grapes—two large baskets each, and a variety of fruits including mangoes, pitaya, lychees, longan, and bananas all in one basket.
She then filled four large sacks with cotton and goose feathers; some vegetables and fruit were also taken out and placed on the cart.
After waiting for a while, she led the cart back out to the original location and waited there for Shen Chengyao.
From a distance, Xiao’er spotted the figure of Shen Chengyao and felt rather excited.
Shen Chengyao walked over to the bullock cart.
Had Xiao’er not been sitting there, he would hardly have believed it was their family’s cart.
“Xiao’er, you bought all these things?”
“Yep, dad, did you find any information?”
“That family says that the couple is from Litou Village in Taiping Town, Wanhe County.
The man’s name is Fang Danai.
I’m setting off for the neighboring county tomorrow to check things out.”
“What is all this?
Why did you buy so much?” Shen Chengyao lifted the linen sack covering the baskets to find apples.
He uncovered a few more baskets and found more fruit, which left him dumbfounded, “Xiao’er, you won’t be able to finish all these fruits.
Fruit doesn’t keep long and it will be a waste when it goes bad.”
“Dad, don’t you think all these fruits are beautiful?”
“Oh, yes, they’re really beautiful.” Shen Chengyao took another look, “But no matter how lovely they are, you can’t just dine on beauty.”
“Didn’t I purchase lots of wine jars?
I intend to make wine with the fruits that we can’t finish.”
“You can make wine with these fruits?” He had heard of rice wine and sorghum wine, but never fruit wine.
“Of course, you’ll see it when I do it.”
Hearing that, Shen Chengyao did not speak again and sat in the bullock cart and began the journey home.
As they were passing the winery, Xiao’er bought another 40 pounds of white wine and then directed Shen Chengyao toward the junk shop Bai Tian had mentioned.
“Dad, could you stop at that junk shop up ahead?
I want to buy some stuff.”
“Xiao’er, you can buy new things.
Now that we have some savings at home, we should meet the reasonable requirements of the child.”
“I’ll see if they have what I need.
The things in the junk shop are cheaper.”
Xiao’er walked into the shop.
The shopkeeper simply glanced at her and said, “Just pick whatever you want, and then bring it here and pay.”
Seeing such poor service from the shopkeeper, Xiao’er thought it was no wonder he didn’t recognize a treasure when he saw one.
She rummaged around in the old junk shop, picking up a poorly made white jade hairpin; the jade was inferior, but the carving was superb and very lifelike, as if there were a bouquet of flowers really blooming on it.
Then, she located a copy of the “Huangdi Neijing” among a pile of old books.
She rummaged some more and finally ended up front of a pile of stones.
She picked up one that was slightly green.
The stone appealed to her the minute she saw it.
She felt it permeated a primitive aura and carried the profound weight of time passed.
“Essence of the star fell on Jing Mountain and turned into jade; side view is green and front view is white…” If it really was what she thought, then she had found a rare treasure.
Trying to suppress her excitement, Xiao’er decided to study the pile of stones on the ground.
She picked two more stones and asked Bai Tian if there were any jade inside them, Bai Tian gave a certain answer.
Xiao’er brought the three stones, a book, and a jade hairpin to the shopkeeper for billing.
The shopkeeper opened one eye to look at them, “Each rough stone: two taels, jade hairpin: two taels, book: 500 coins, total: eight and a half taels.” He said and shut his eye again.
“That’s expensive!” Xiao’er clicked her tongue.
No wonder there was so little business here.
Hearing Xiao’er’s words, the shopkeeper didn’t even bother to lift an eyelid.
It was clear that he didn’t care whether she bought anything or not.
Xiao’er could only put down eight and a half taels, then gathered her purchases and left.
Nevertheless, she was sure she had gotten a good deal.
When Xiao’er had gone, the shopkeeper finally opened his eye.
A gleam of light flashed in his eye as he gazed at the retreating bullock cart, deep in thought.
“Master, what is a person of destiny?”
“A person of destiny is someone you recognize at the first glance.”
Master, after waiting for so many years, have I finally found them?
