Chapter 13 - Crazy Enough

Rewinding a few minutes back.

The moment that famous man arrived, Darian felt as if a hammer had struck his chest. It was his curse—or rather, the one he had now chosen to accept as a blessing.

He focused on Ceug as the man spoke to the woman. It only took a few seconds before images started flowing into his mind.

The vision was from Ceug's perspective, seeing through his eyes.

Everything around him was dark, covered in a thick miasma. The first thing that stood out was the sound of desperate screams—many, all at once.

Ceug was moving in a certain direction, excitement clear in his movements. When he finally stopped, he waved his hand, and the miasma seemed to dissipate, revealing the scene ahead.

Hundreds of bodies lay scattered on the ground. They were all people from this universe—most of them already dead, while a few let out faint, weak groans, taking their last breaths.

But behind them, three men were bound by their arms and legs, roaring in despair as they fixed their eyes on a specific point.

There, surrounded by black flames that burned endlessly, stood three humanoid Spiritual Guardians, radiating a violet aura.

Those Summoners were watching their partners disappear, tears of blood streaming down their faces.

And that violet color—it was proof they had seven rings. They were the elite among the elite.

All around, various other Summoners and Spiritual Guardians were simply watching with eager smiles. They were obviously the ones responsible for all of this—alongside Ceug.

"Excellent. With this, I'll reach seven rings very soon."

The voice came from behind Ceug. He turned around, and the image of an ice hawk appeared before him. It was his own Spiritual Guardian, exuding pure excitement. The hawk continued:

"In a year, the Nest will be ready. We'll have a grand feast. The Lord wants everything to be perfect—he'll even lend us his abyssal heart to ensure it."

Ceug gave a small nod. "Are you sure about that? Too many dying at once could collapse our galaxy. We'll lose a lot of soldiers, and it'll take a long time to rebuild those numbers."

"Hmph... don't worry about it." The Spiritual Guardian scoffed. "Most of them will be humans and elves from Terra and Verdon. Besides, no Spiritual Guardian wants the Risen to completely take over this universe. When we're done, we'll have created plenty of strong people while only losing the weaklings. Reaching eight rings will be easy in the future, and after that... even nine rings won't be an impossible dream."

Ceug scoffed in understanding. At that moment, those three Spiritual Guardians vanished forever. And just like that, the vision of the past ended.

Back in the present, as soon as Darian finished explaining everything to Niara, he asked, tense:

"What is an abyssal heart?"

She, growing more confused by the second, felt her pulse quicken at the question.

"It's like the spiritual heart I fused with my body to become a Summoner. But this... this comes from a Risen Lord, an entity capable of killing even an eight-ringed Spiritual Guardian with ease."

"The spiritual heart allows someone to summon and connect a Spiritual Guardian to it, forming a contract. But the abyssal heart can capture multiple souls, refine them, and grant power to the Risen Lord. With a single thought, he can devour the souls of countless weaker beings. When a Risen Lord appears and uses his heart... everyone below seven rings becomes nothing more than his nourishment. But... they can't attack the galaxy directly."

Darian cut her off: "Can he give his heart to someone else? Has that ever happened before?"

"Hmm... I've never read anything about that. But the abyssal heart is both their greatest power and greatest weakness. If it's destroyed, they can't create another one and quickly grow weak, making them easy to kill. I find it unlikely that he'd do that... if it's even possible, that is."

Darian took a deep breath. The situation had suddenly become much more complicated.

He knew everything... but what the hell could he do?

Warn people, maybe? But he had no proof. In this tense situation, who would believe him over a famous warrior? That would be suicide.

At the same time, there was no way he could just ignore this and walk into that place to die. The rules for Summoners were absolute—disobedience wasn't an option.

Darian had a fair amount of dark power, but imagining himself killing that man was a ridiculous fantasy. Ceug definitely had the same instinct for danger as Niara. Darian wouldn't even be able to get close enough to attempt an attack.

Not to mention, Ceug wasn't alone. Killing just one wouldn't change anything.

"Niara... let's go to the room. We need to prepare." Darian spoke seriously, and she nodded, deep in thought.

Once inside, she handed him a spatial ring.

The ring had a small crystal at its center, looking almost like glass. It was a natural spatial storage crystal, something that formed in nature under very specific conditions. Inside it, spatial laws existed.

Because it was a natural crystal, a skilled forger could create a spatial ring capable of storing objects—even though the people of this universe couldn't directly use those laws.

Inside the ring were the corrupted weapons and everything they had bought earlier.

Niara watched as he pulled out one of the weapons. Then, Darian asked her to remove the inscriptions sealing one of them. Anyone would think he was insane for making that request. Doing something like that in an enclosed space, with no escape route, in the middle of the academy, was at the very least... reckless and suicidal.

But she just nodded and started removing it slowly.

As soon as she lifted the first seal... a white light surged from that slug, covering the weapon.

In an instant, all the corruption was purified.

"What the..." she muttered, swallowing her words. She already thought his healing power was terrifying. Now, she simply didn't know what to say.

Darian didn't have time to waste. He pulled out all the weapons and purified them. Then, he did something he might deeply regret later, but it was the only idea he had.

He focused on the thirty weapons and burned all the remaining of his white power, transferring it into the weapons' cores. Then, he turned to Niara:

"Let's take advantage of this and head back to the city. If we hand these over to the black market, with all the Summoners desperate for anything that could help them in battle, they'll announce the weapons and sell them for an insanely high price. No one's going to hold back money—after all, if they die, they won't be able to spend it anyway."

She nodded. She hadn't even considered that possibility. But when she realized the ridiculous amount of money they could make, she almost jumped.

Celestia Academy probably didn't even have five core weapons available for sale. The moment the wealthiest Summoners found out about these thirty, they'd burn everything they had to get them.

They could stay hidden and negotiate with the black market, keeping half the profit, and still make an absurd amount of money. Normally, doing something like this would be impossible without revealing their identities—everyone would try to find out who managed to get so many at once.

But the sum was so outrageous that if they let the black market keep half, it would be like paying for their silence. They wouldn't care. After all, only six hours remained, and they'd be too focused on selling the weapons as fast as possible to bother investigating who was behind the deal.

"What are we even gonna do with money in this situation?" Niara murmured.

"Celestia Academy has things for sale that we don't find easily in regular trade, right?"

Darian asked, and Niara nodded. There were items only Summoners could acquire and use. Sometimes, a few popped up in the black market, but they were extremely limited.

"I think all the good stuff has probably already been snatched up by the other Summoners," she said, looking at him seriously.

He met her gaze, then gave a slight smile to ease her uncertainty.

"It doesn't have to be anything amazing. I have a plan. But... the chances of it working are close to zero. Not that it matters—we already agreed that we'll always have to do things differently to move forward and survive. This craziness we are about to pull off seems different enough for me."
