Chapter 300: Chapter 178: Escorting the Fire_Part 2
Soon it was time to depart, and Allen Zhang prayed that this mission would go smoothly. After all, he was just passing through on a trip and planned to visit the casino in Little Rock; he had no intention of getting into a gunfight with anyone.
The Artillery Team, in charge of escorting the convoy, led the way, followed by Sieg in the middle, then the PMC Lightning Company’s security personnel, and finally the other miscellaneous individuals.
Having left the city, they reached the suburbs. The Artillery Team’s security personnel constantly reported road conditions through walkie-talkies, scanning the environment and any suspicious individuals. But after dozens of minutes of high-speed road driving without any signs of danger, they all relaxed quite a bit.
"There’s still an hour and thirty minutes of driving left before we can reach Palm Valley. There shouldn’t be any significant risks, considering it’s only a 60-dollar hourly wage," Bailey reported with a tablet, reporting the roadside conditions.
"You’re getting sixty dollars, but they’re getting 85 dollars! And we’re all doing the same job," Allen Zhang joked. "If something unexpected does happen, the enemy’s bullets won’t discriminate based on your pay, thinking they shouldn’t hit you because you earn less."
"I just hope everything goes well."
Bailey silently prayed for God’s blessing; for just a few hundred dollars, why risk their lives?
The convoy of armored vehicles drove smoothly on the highway without incident. Allen Zhang was so sleepy that he couldn’t keep his eyes open and decided to put on goggles and a mask and rest.
Soon, the vehicles switched lanes and diverged from the main road onto a more secluded path. They drove for several tens of minutes without incidence, but as they left a small town, the vehicles ahead suddenly flashed their lights and braked.
The Artillery Team immediately reported the road condition, "There has been a rear-end collision ahead! Reduce speed and proceed with caution! An emergency has occurred ahead; we’ll soon merge onto a mountainous path. The roadside situation is complex; keep the speed at 40 mph."
Hearing this, Sieg calmly turned the steering wheel and signalled to move left.
Allen Zhang was woken up by the bumpy road condition and didn’t feel like resting anymore. Through the window, he saw two private cars that had collided, their tires and engines completely wrecked, with two Black people blaming and cursing at each other.
He wasn’t interested and just looked at the shadows and leaves outside the windshield, examining the road information. Surprised, he asked: "Why are we driving on a mountain road? The road is so remote and rough."
"Boss, the highway ramp ahead is congested with construction and closed, so we had to detour midway. It’ll only take us an extra twenty minutes at most," Bailey explained.
Allen Zhang, however, felt that something was off. When else would there be a traffic jam if not at this time?
The sunlight couldn’t penetrate the small woods, and the atmosphere became a bit oppressive. The tires of the armored vehicles rolled over fallen leaves and small stones, making a crunching sound. Ten minutes later, as they approached the corner of an intersection, motorcycles and pickup trucks suddenly appeared ahead, blocking the road.
The leading Artillery Team immediately reduced speed and reported: "Emergency situation! Unknown individuals spotted ahead..."
Ratatatatata!!! Before the report finished, the dark muzzles of guns protruded from a pickup truck in front, sweeping a hail of bullets at the armored vehicles. Bullets flew and flames burst, hitting the Artillery Team in the lead, shattering their windshield. Luckily, the armored vehicles were equipped with bulletproof features and run-flat tires.
"Sprint!! Sprint!!!"
The Artillery Team responded immediately, but panic could be heard in their voices. Facing the brunt of the gunfire, they were confused at the front, "Attacked by terrorists!!! Get out of here as fast as possible!! Call 911 for backup!!"
With one slam of the accelerator, the armored vehicle charged through the barrier under a torrent of bullets, making a whirring noise. The barriers flew as the gunmen who shot them down were knocked away along with the blocking motorcycles.
Sieg took the opportunity to accelerate and followed close behind.
The ruffian had just hit the ground, still in shock, and when he opened his eyes, he saw a steel beast rolling towards him, crunching over his head.
Allen Zhang felt the vehicle jolt, and on looking in the rearview mirror, he saw the young guy behind smashing his brains out.
But he couldn’t twitch for more than a few seconds before another armored vehicle rammed into him, crushing over his small body, making a noise as if crushing dry rice cakes, his bones completely shattered, with organs squeezed out.
"Tsk." Allen Zhang witnessed such a large-scale scene for the first time, but the masked ruffians on the side were still holding their guns high, pulling the triggers and aiming at the armored convoy, spraying bullets. He watched helplessly as the bulletproof glass was stippled with splotches and sparks flew from bullets hitting the steel.
Shit! Is it this thrilling?
If the vehicle wasn’t bulletproof, it would’ve been blown apart already!
Now that the convoy had left the corner area and was heading towards the highway, the Biker Gang criminals were hot on their heels, driving pickup trucks and pulling out several AKs, targeting the tires and convoy with a wild burst of gunfire! Allen Zhang felt the vehicle become bumpy again.
Bailey couldn’t contain his anger, "Fxxk you!!"
Through the shooting holes of the vehicle, he aimed his gun and fired back rat-a-tat-a-tat.
Immediately, one of the motorcycles hot on their tail had its rider shot down, losing control of the bike and flying off, hitting someone else on the side and rolling on the ground twice.
