Chapter 388 - 344: Kirby Meet Kirby
USA, Tuesday, 28 October 1992, Morning
John Kirby, the renowned lawyer who helped ZAGE and Emerald Wings triumph over Universal Studios, was finally enjoying some well-deserved relaxation at home. With a cup of coffee in hand, he watched fondly as his two children, Jack and Junice who is Sixth and Five grader, sat cross-legged in the living room, each engrossed in their brand-new ZGB consoles. It had only been two days since ZGB officially launched in America, and as part of a heartfelt gesture, Emerald Wings gifted John Kirby not just one, but three ZGB Handhelds along with all of the release games at the release date. The moment the package arrived, the Kirby household exploded with excitement—Jack and Junice tore into the boxes like it was Christmas morning, while John watched, amused and touched by the sheer joy his children displayed.
And now the Kirby Household has become more lively.
"Hahaha! Look, sis! My Ekans evolved into Arbok! It's so cool! I'm naming him Venom!" Jack shouted, practically shoving the ZGB screen in front of Junice's face.
Junice scrunched her nose dramatically and leaned away. "Eww, Arbok is gross! Look at that weird snake face! Pikachu and Jigglypuff are way cuter! At least they don't look like monsters!"
Jack puffed his chest proudly. "Cute but lame! Pikachu just zaps stuff. Arbok's got swagger. He's like... the boss of the snakes!"
Junice crossed her arms. "Whatever, Venom-boy. When you get zapped by a Pikachu in battle, don't come crying to me."
Jack laughed. "Ha! Arbok would just wrap Pikachu up like a pretzel! No contest!"
"Keep dreaming!" Junice stuck out her tongue, and Jack responded by sticking out his own.
Their bickering continued, filling the room with cheerful energy as they kept one eye on their games, furiously tapping the ZGB buttons.
Their playful banter filled the house with laughter, while John chuckled softly and turned his attention to his own ZGB, casually playing a round of Tetris to pass the time.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang.
"Hmm? Who could that be this early?" John mused aloud, setting his console aside.
When he opened the door, he was greeted by James Yoel, one of the top executives at Emerald Wings, beaming with enthusiasm.
"Hello, Mr. Kirby!" James said cheerily, holding a medium-sized box that looked surprisingly heavy.
"James? What brings you here?" John asked, intrigued.
"Special delivery," James said, handing him the package. "Straight from Zaboru Renkonan himself. He wanted to deliver it personally but got tied up with important stuff back in Japan. He made me promise to deliver it to you personally. I don't even know what's inside."
John accepted the box with a raised brow. "Whoa, this is heavy."
James shrugged. "Anyway, I'll leave you to it!" James said with a grin, but he lingered a moment longer, clearly itching with curiosity. "Honestly, though, I'm curious as hell. Zaboru was super strict about me not peeking. Swore me to secrecy like it was some national treasure."
John chuckled. "Well, if it makes you feel better, I'm just as curious as you are now."
James laughed and took a step back. "Alright, alright, I'm getting out of here before I crack and beg you to open it in front of me. Have a great day, Mr. Kirby! Enjoy your surprise!"
With a final, exaggerated tip of an invisible hat, James turned on his heel and headed back to his car, leaving John shaking his head and smiling at the strange but heartwarming situation he found himself in.
Bringing the box inside, John's wife, Anna, had just arrived in the living room.
"Daddy! What's that?" Junice asked eagerly.
"I don't know," John said with a smile. "But it's from Zaboru."
"Zaboru?! that ZABORU!?" Jack jumped excitedly. "Open it, open it!"
Anna laughed and fetched a pair of scissors from the kitchen. Carefully, John sliced through the tape and opened the box.
Inside were four stunning ZGB handhelds, each specially designed with sleek purple and pink colors and the name "Kirby" elegantly engraved on the back.
"WHOA! Special edition ZGBs!" Jack shouted, wide-eyed.
"And they have our name on them!" Junice added, bouncing excitedly.
The box also contained many multiple packs of Z-batteries, explaining the weight, and four copies of a game called Kirby's Dream Land. Jack and Junice quickly grabbed a copy each, marveling at the adorable pink character on the box art.
"This little guy is soooo cute!" Junice squealed.

"Whoa! He looks like a goofball! And I love it!!" Jack admitted, even he couldn't deny the charm.
John, meanwhile, smiled warmly. 'So Zaboru really did it,' he thought. 'He kept his promise and created a character in my name. I thought he was just joking.'
At the bottom of the box, John found a framed photograph—it was a picture of himself, Zaboru, Ryan, and James, taken right after their courtroom victory against Universal. Beside it was a sleek, custom-designed card featuring an illustration of John Kirby holding a grinning pink Kirby character in his arms and Kirby looked cozy on John Kirby grasp, with the words "Eternal Gratefulness from ZAGE to Kirby" emblazoned below the pictures.
Anna leaned over his shoulder, admiring the card. "Wow, John, they really went all out."
John smiled, feeling a rare swell of pride. "Yeah. Zaboru's something else."
There were also small Kirby plush toys and action figures—items that, according to an included note, were exclusive to the Kirby family for now, unavailable anywhere else and also it highlights the importance of the card to make sure John never loses it!.
"Dad! Dad! Can we play Kirby's Dream Land now?!" Jack pleaded.
"Of course," John chuckled. "Go ahead."
The children immediately tore open the game boxes and inserted the cartridges into their new ZGBs. As they booted up the game, the living room filled with cheerful 8-bit music and bright, bubbly graphics.
John sat back, sipping his coffee again as he watched his children laugh and play, feeling a deep sense of contentment.
Zaboru had gone above and beyond to show his gratitude—not just with grand gestures but with thoughtfulness and heart. And in doing so, he had given John Kirby something far more valuable than any courtroom victory or a lot of money he had given his family memories they would cherish forever.
And so, the Kirby household basked in happiness, playing and bonding over the character and game that now carried their name into the world.
To be continued.
