Antihero In the Hero Academy: I Can Connect the Past Heroes-Chapter 115: Just Wanted To Make Sure
Chapter 115: Just Wanted To Make Sure
And then he found himself in his old body.
He could feel the pain.
He could recognise his appearance, which had lost its meaning, and had become an embarrassment for a sorcerer.
He could feel the wounds aching all over his body and the hot blood flowing from his chest, legs and eyes.
In contrast to the sadness and frantic anger he had felt in his earlier memories, he was hurting badly now. He could feel that his soul was full of cracks.
Ready to crumble at any moment, close to annihilation.
"Don’t you understand? You are the only person who has made perhaps the stupidest choices a human being can make. Every single mistake you’ve made has led to the deaths of thousands. Tens of thousands in misery."
The dark figure came to the tip of Atlas’ head looked him straight in the eye and uttered these words.
"Still, I saved a lot, didn’t I?" questioned Atlas, focusing on the dark figure as if ignoring the raindrops still falling towards him.
The dark figure seemed to be getting angry.
"Is the world worth sacrificing everything you have? Do you have an answer to that?" the dark figure asked.
"No...the whole world could burn if they were to live," replied Atlas.
At that moment, the dark figure lifted Atlas’ wounded body into the air. His body writhing with pain was screaming, but Atlas did not scream or cry out in pain even for a second.
"THEN WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO SAVE EVERYTHING!’"
The dark figure’s shouts echoed across the battlefield. There was not a mouth, a nose, or a pair of eyes on his face, but Atlas could feel the anger in his bones.
"I’m not trying to save everything!" Atlas shouted, feeling the pain in his body more and more deeply with each passing second.
As soon as he uttered those words, the dark figure threw him away. Seriously, Atlas flew maybe three or four metres in the air and then hit the ground as hard as he could.
"AGKH!!!"
Atlas finally had to scream in pain.
"We made a promise. A promise that we wouldn’t save any more humans. So why are you still pulling your ridiculous [heroic] stunts? Dukedom? Being a superior human being? All you have to do is slaughter every demon and angel worshipper whose faces you know, and then move on with your life!" the dark figure shouted.
He grabbed Atlas again and threw him again in the same way.
"AGKHHH!!!"
"But no! You’re still playing the hero!" the dark figure shouted.
Atlas didn’t know what to say. The dark figure wasn’t entirely wrong...but he wasn’t right about everything.
"I may not care about humanity, but what about the innocent?" Atlas suddenly questioned.
With that, the dark figure stopped where he was and then, looking right into Atlas’ eyes, said the following words:
"All races are greedy. As soon as they see you as a hero, they will get close to you. They will use you, fool!!! Just like they did in the past!" screamed the dark figure.
When these words entered Atlas’s ears, he frowned and then shouted back, "WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO THEN?!"
"Leave everything and everyone and walk away? What if those gates open again? What then? What will we do? We’ll beg the gods and goddesses, the powers that be who can’t come down to earth?" he added to his own words.
"I don’t give a fuck about being a hero, but if at the end of the day, the sword is pointed at me, I’d rather kill the blacksmith forging that sword! I’d rather burn those who hold the sword! If it makes me and those around me safer, I’d rather do that!" Atlas muttered once more.
"You have to end it all, Atlas. Never forget it. Never ever forget it." the dark figure said.
After these words, the dark figure snapped his finger once. Atlas was suddenly separated from his dying body and then returned to his original body, which continued to burn with colourful flames.
The dark figure, which had taken the form of Atlas’ body, instantly began to gain colour. After only five seconds, the dark figure had indeed taken on Atlas’ current appearance, burning in colourful flames.
The grim expression on the figure’s face seemed to reveal many things. It was neither angry nor angry. Only a sad...exhausted look made him look bitter.
However, a smile formed on the dark figure’s face. Before Atlas realised what was happening, his head began to spin and the space around him began to tremble.
His eyes became blurry and he realised that he was beginning to wake up from his dream.
Before he woke up, only one sentence echoed in his mind, just one more sentence as the dark figure disappeared:
"I just...Wanted to make sure that you remember."
Atlas instantly opened his eyes and came to himself, panting for breath. He could see eyes looking around him.
He could see that the bed he was on was half burnt, and he could even see that there were pieces of burnt wood on the walls and ceiling.
I guess he had activated 8 Sacred Flames not only in his dream but also in real life.
"Are you okay?" Cordelia suddenly asked.
Atlas shook his head and said, "Just a nightmare. I’m sorry." getting up from the half-burnt bed and moving towards his sister and giving her a big hug.
He felt too low to look at Aether and Aelia. Who knows how much pain he had caused these two lovers in his previous life?
He didn’t even want to visit and support the two who had already lost their children in the war.
Eva returned her younger brother’s hug and spoke in a calm tone:
"You’re still not good with nightmares, are you?"
With Eva’s statement, Atlas hugged her even tighter and let go of his sister after only a minute.
"I’m sorry. I bother you every time," Atlas complained.
"You make it sound like I hate it," Eva retorted.
Atlas smiled and then questioned, "How long did I sleep?"
Eva looked at the others and then replied, "Only ten minutes."
Atlas made a mental note that he would not sleep again at that moment. Everything he had seen was still echoing in his mind. It was very disturbing that every memory he wanted to erase or every memory he didn’t want to keep and remember was coming to life in his mind.
As he moved to an empty seat, he saw Cordelia and every other person in the room staring at him and tried to avert his eyes from them.
"So you’re going to keep us in the dark about what’s going on? What could have happened to get you to use your ability outside of the dream world, to activate that defence mechanism?" Cain suddenly questioned.
He asked the question on everyone’s mind.
"It wasn’t anything serious. Just a nightmare, I’m not good with nightmares," Atlas muttered and then yawned where he was and then closed his eyes in a meditative position on the couch.
"All right, hide it," Cordelia said.
Every single person in the room glanced at each other as Atlas tried to meditate and increase the layer of mana in his body.
Even if he didn’t realise it, in his dream he had spoken in real life. Names, shouts, and more reached the ears of each of them.
It wasn’t until she said Irene’s name that anyone realised what was going on. It was only when Cordelia and Bellatrix heard that name that they realised the depth of Atlas’ nightmare.
Irene and Atlas were good friends, after all...
The day passed like that and when the dawn of the next day appeared in the sky and the sun shone in the centre of the sky at noon, it was time for the second part of the mid-term exam to begin.
Atlas, like the others, went into the waiting room of the arena and began to exhale, breathing deeply and seriously.
He was sitting with Irene, but of course, Irene noticed that Atlas was acting a little strange.
"Are you okay?" the beautiful girl couldn’t help but ask.
Atlas shook his head, didn’t speak for a few seconds and then said, "Yeah, just a nightmare. You’re next, aren’t you?" he asked.
Irene shook her head and then, still trying to prepare herself, pulled out a few potions that could be detonated, armed her bow and arrows, then turned to Atlas and said, "Wish me luck, my dear friend." and held out her fist to him.
Atlas clinked his fist with Irene’s and then replied, "I know you’ll do well, go as far as you can."
At that moment, a voice came from outside the waiting room:
"IRENE LUIS AND OLIVIA AMPER TO THE ARENA!!!"
One after the other, names were read out and students were called into the arena in pairs.
Irene took a deep breath and then stepped out of the waiting room door with a worried look on her face.
The young girl was instantly teleported to one of the hundred arenas and a viewing window opened in front of Atlas, as it did for all the students.
The arena exam was beginning.
