Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train-Chapter 307: Soaring to 90,000 Miles!
“Forbidden item?” Shu Qin looked confused.
“There’s been rumors and studies about forbidden items. Back in the Federation, there was a department called the Special Item Investigation Department. They weren’t investigating eerie entities, but rather objects that could trigger specific eerie phenomena. These items originally existed on Blue Planet, but after Apocalypse Day, they began causing strange events. People believe they’ve been contaminated by some mysterious force and turned into extraordinary objects. In Project Angel, such items were labeled as forbidden items—they refer to ‘specific items capable of causing regional or contagious eerie/extraordinary events,’” Ding Junyi explained.
“We already know that,” KIKI interjected. “Before you all got on the train, we ran into the 1542 Dark Radio back in the Daluo Mountains near Yubei City. That was an eerie event triggered by a forbidden item.”
“Yeah, yeah, it scared the h*ll out of us. We thought it was haunted!” Shasha nodded vigorously.
Shu Qin’s eyes widened. She had attended the bonfire party in Qu Guan with Lin Xian and knew about the 1542 radio. But only now, hearing Lin Xian mention it, did she realize Infinite Train had actually encountered it. Back then, three convoys had reported receiving the signal during the night—people even went missing.
“So your team actually ran into that eerie radio? Were there any disappearances?” Shu Qin asked.
Lin Xian shook his head and briefly recounted what had happened. “It wasn’t really haunted, but that thing is seriously dangerous. It can pull people into some sort of radio frequency... and mentally invade them through fear, making them visualize their worst nightmares!”
“That’s why these kinds of items shouldn’t be judged by standard eerie entity logic. They go way beyond our current understanding of ability systems.”
Ding Junyi added, “That’s kind of like the mycelial illusion from the Sky Mushroom Tower—except one is terrifying, the other euphoric.”
“So, does that mean some illusions during Polar Night can transform ordinary objects into forbidden items?” Daluo asked.
“That’s our best guess so far.”
“Enough talk,” Lin Xian muttered, eyes darkening as he stared at the floating, spinning gold bracelet. Just hearing the words forbidden item gave him a headache. Last time, this stuff had nearly ruined him. But now the Eerie Cube had become Infinite Train’s protective artifact—it even converted Black Smoke into Mechanical Source Points. He had mixed feelings: love and hate.
And now, out of nowhere, another one shows up on his train. It put him on the back foot again. No one could predict what kind of threat this thing might pose.
He motioned for everyone to back away, then raised a hand and conjured a metallic mechanical arm, aiming it at the golden bracelet.
But just as the metal gripper got close, the floating bracelet suddenly began spraying out extremely fine blue flames in all directions—so faint they looked like transparent air. In that instant, the whole carriage filled with searing heat, and the temperature shot up.
His metal gripper melted instantly into molten iron and dripped into the crucible below. Not just the gripper—soon, even the crucible itself turned red-hot and started collapsing under the heat.
A wave of high-temperature air burst through Car 5, forcing everyone to retreat. The heat surged toward the front and back carriages like a blast wave.
Lin Xian immediately activated his AT Field Shield. Cold sweat broke out on his back—thankfully, the flames only lasted a few seconds. If it had kept going, the entire carriage might’ve been melted before he had a chance to throw the bracelet away.
“This thing can release that kind of heat?!”
“F***, that’s terrifying!”
“Be careful, Shu Qin!”
“Captain Lin, don’t let your guard down!”
“KIKI!” Lin Xian called.
“I’ll handle it,” KIKI replied, flying over. “Shu Qin, toss it out of here!”
“Quickly!”
Just as KIKI was about to use her telekinesis, Zhan Lurong, standing next to the crucible with her pants half-burnt, looked on in disbelief. The bracelet’s glow hadn’t fully faded, and it floated less steadily now.
Ding Junyi suddenly activated her Middle Seven Flame Heart and declared, “I see now! This is a fire-element treasure—it requires a drop of blood to bond with its master—”
“Drop of your a**!” KIKI yelled, chucking an empty can from the trash directly at her head. “Now’s not the time! What if this thing burns the train down?”
Ding Junyi looked embarrassed, then earnestly said, “You mean... that heat wasn’t just flame—it absorbed your fire earlier?”
Lin Xian narrowed his eyes. “You sure?”
“I...”
Lu Xingchen hesitated, then made a bold move—he reached out and grabbed the golden bracelet with his bare hand.
Everyone gasped. Even Lin Xian’s heart skipped a beat. But nothing happened. The bracelet didn’t ignite. It just floated quietly in his palm like an ordinary accessory.
Everyone held their breath.
Lu Xingchen’s heart pounded, but seeing everyone staring at him, he quickly put on a smug expression and turned sideways like a master mage.
“See? I told you.”
He opened his palm. The bracelet hovered there.
Just as he thought people would relax, their expressions turned even more shocked.
Shasha’s eyes nearly popped out of her head. “Fire Bro... you...”
“Huh?” Lu Xingchen sensed something was wrong. He looked around.
Why did everyone suddenly look so... short?
He looked down—and realized...
He was floating off the ground!
“Fire Bro’s flying?!” Chen Sixuan shouted.
Everyone, including Lin Xian and KIKI, looked on in awe. Lu Xingchen was now hovering like an astronaut in space, weightless, drifting.
“Uh... what the...!”
Lu Xingchen started flailing, swimming in the air, unable to come down. He only managed to descend when he pushed off the ceiling.
Everyone stared in stunned silence.
Even Ding Junyi looked serious. “Anti-gravity?”
In science, negative mass has never been ruled out. But there’s never been any evidence supporting anti-gravity... until now.
Lin Xian was half-relieved. “You feeling okay?”
Lu Xingchen grabbed a handle to stay grounded and replied, “Brother Lin, I feel no discomfort.”
He then offered the bracelet. “Would you like to inspect it?”
Lin Xian reached out, then paused. No way. Lu Xingchen had fire-type abilities—maybe that’s why he was unaffected. Lin Xian activated Mechanical Scan instead.
[Scan Failed: Non-mechanical energy detected.]
Shu Qin frowned. To be sure it really was a forbidden item, she tried using Mechanical Devouring—after all, that’s how she had acquired the Eerie Cube before.
Progress bar appeared:
[Devouring: 10%... 30%... 50%... 80%...]
[Devouring Complete. Cannot deconstruct. Convert to material: Gold x 0.05?]
Right as it was about to finish, a holographic prompt popped up. Lin Xian frowned and halted the devouring.
He turned to Lu Xingchen. “Fire Bro, test it again. If this bracelet lets you float without any other side effects... maybe your fire powers could help you fly!”
That thought had just occurred to Lin Xian. He’d tried devouring the 1542 radio but couldn’t control the fear energy. It was only by chance that the Mechanical Heart reacted, creating the Eerie Cube.
But this bracelet—both the flame and the anti-gravity effect—were things Fire Bro might control. Using it as scrap would be a waste.
Lu Xingchen’s eyes lit up like he’d had an epiphany. He retracted the bracelet and stared at it with a fierce gleam.
If this thing let him stay in anti-gravity mode... wouldn’t one burst of flame send him flying?
He’d really become Fire God!
His mind painted a vivid image of himself soaring through the sky like a deity. His pulse surged with excitement.
“Brother Lin, you are absolutely right! Let me give it a shot!”
With that, he grabbed the door handle and floated toward Car 5’s automatic door. Everyone stepped aside, watching him with a mix of curiosity and concern.
“Uh... you sure about this?” KIKI frowned.
“I think Lin Xian has a point,” Chen Sixuan said.
Shasha crossed her arms. “Just look at him—he’s not gonna stop until he tries.”
“We need to be careful,” Ding Junyi warned. “We know too little about forbidden items.”
Daluo and Shu Qin both nodded.
“Be careful, Fire Bro.”
“Train’s going fast. If you rush it...” Shu Qin cautioned.
Lin Xian turned to KIKI. “Little one, go with him. We need to know the full properties of this thing. It’s not safe to just leave it unchecked on the train.”
KIKI sighed. “Alright.”

The automatic door of Car 5 slid open, and a gust of harsh Gobi desert wind blew in, dispersing the heat that had filled the train just moments ago.
“Let’s go,” KIKI said coolly, arms crossed as she floated at the doorway, glancing back at Ding Junyi.
But Ding Junyi was far from calm. She flipped her wrist, slipped the golden bracelet onto her arm, and stretched her right hand forward. A stream of crimson fire burst out—her fire-type ability in full display. The recoil from the flame sent her flying slowly out of the train.
Everyone rushed to the doorway to watch.
Just like she’d claimed, she used her flames to propel herself into the air, albeit slowly. She had no prior flying experience, and the Polar Night Gobi made her disoriented—it was hard to even tell which way was up or down.
But she knew everyone, including the other convoys, was likely watching her. And KIKI was just behind, ready to “correct” her any second. How could she, the self-proclaimed Fire God, not rise to the occasion?
With a determined bite of her lip, Ding Junyi pushed past her panic. Slowly but surely, she learned to control her flames and posture. She began to fly with some stability, picking up speed.
In the Gobi night sky, the red jet trail behind her burned like a Mach ring, and she shot upward, slicing through wind barriers and tearing into the clouds.
“Polar Night is dangerous, yes—but there's so much humanity hasn’t discovered yet,” Ding Junyi muttered, hands in her pockets, her eyes fixed on the sky.
Anti-gravity energy, consciousness-bound plants, Sky Mushroom Tower, corpse shepherds, and living disaster flora—they had encountered all of this within less than a day of entering the Polar Night. Many of these discoveries defied the very foundations of physics and biology. No wonder she was so deeply moved.
Lin Xian’s expression grew complex. Their entry into the Polar Night was both misfortune and blessing. He knew others hadn’t been so lucky—like the Phoenix Convoy and Nightblade Convoy—they were fleeing, with only one goal: to escape the darkness, to reach the dawn.
But someday, humanity would be completely engulfed by the Polar Night.
And those who survived… would have to face everything in it.
“Forbidden items… disaster flora…” Chen Sixuan sighed. “We know so little about the darkness. But judging by what we saw in the Sky Mushroom Tower… maybe the creatures of the night know more about us than we ever expected.”
Everyone fell silent at her words. A subtle weight settled in their hearts.
But Lin Xian’s eyes sharpened. “On the bright side, Fire Bro can fly now—doesn’t that make our Infinite Convoy stronger?”
“The darkness might force humanity to evolve. These dangerous forbidden items—maybe they’re tools we can harness,” he said, turning to Ding Junyi. “Isn’t that the whole point of the Special Item Investigation Department?”
Ding Junyi nodded. “Exactly. We study the dark, not just to survive—but to one day conquer it.”
“WHOOOAAAAA!”
A wild, excited scream echoed across the dark wilderness.
It was Lu Xingchen.
His face was flushed with pure joy. Flight—the power he'd dreamed of for so long—was now real. And he couldn’t help but cry out in delight.
Humans have always longed to fly. It’s in our DNA.
In the vast Gobi night, Lu Xingchen tore across the sky like a silver arrow loosed from a divine bow. Wind howled past his ears like ripping silk. Every dive cut through the sky with flame-forged precision, and every ascent felt like climbing the shattered pieces of stars.
He dove from high above like a meteor and flew in parallel with the speeding Infinite Train.
“Brother Lin!” he shouted from the sky. “Thanks for the tip—this thing’s insane!”
As he flew alongside the train, he glanced down at the team and over at KIKI floating beside him, looking unimpressed.
Grinning proudly, he recited:
“Ladies and gents, when the roc takes flight with the wind, it soars ninety-thou—”
WHAM.
Before he could finish his poem, he flew straight into a rock wall on the side of the track and disappeared from view.
“Fire Bro!!” everyone yelled, stunned, leaning out the carriage to search for him.
Lin Xian wanted to curse out loud. “D*mn it, this guy—how can you fly without looking?! At that speed, he’s gonna die!”
Just then, a voice called down from above.
“I’m fine. I caught it,” KIKI muttered, rolling her eyes.
She raised a hand, and a moment later, Fire Bro reappeared, flaming trail and all, crashing through the shattered sand wall, rolling on the ground a few times, then lifting off again.
The previous grandeur vanished. Now, with a dead-serious face, he declared:
“All clear ahead!”
“Brother Lin, the terrain’s stable, and our Infinite Train’s armor is as sturdy as ever!”
He acted like nothing had happened.
Everyone: …
“Ugh…” Shasha covered her face, groaning. “Lin-ge, can you tell him to fly farther away? I wanna sleep.”
“Go ahead,” Lin Xian chuckled, patting her head.
Shasha yawned and left. Ding Junyi also turned and left quietly.
Shu Qin and Daluo exchanged awkward looks.
“Captain Lin… I’m gonna go take over my shift.”
“Brother Xian, I haven’t finished fixing my rifle.”
Both quickly made excuses and dipped out.
That left only Chen Sixuan watching the sky with a complicated expression. She turned to Lin Xian, concerned. “You sure this is safe?”
“He’ll be fine,” Lin Xian said, arms folded. “He’s our glorious Fire Bro. Been through worse. Seen worse. He’ll survive.”
“Let’s give him space. KIKI too.”
“Why?” Chen Sixuan asked.
“If we don’t leave… how’s he supposed to come back with dignity?”
She covered her mouth, holding back laughter, then walked off to rest.
After Lin Xian and KIKI left, he used his communicator: “Fire Bro, too much fire during Polar Night might attract unwanted attention. Better head back soon.”
“Understood, Brother Lin!” Lu Xingchen replied immediately.
Lin Xian headed to the rear carriage. Once the coast was clear, Lu Xingchen focused hard, finally navigating his way back into Car 5.
Landing, he dusted himself off and noticed his clothes were torn to shreds. That crash had been rough. Alone now, he sighed.
“Sigh… Not very graceful.”
Flying was fun, but he still lacked full control. With some training, though, he’d definitely improve.
He glanced at the power armor suit Lin Xian had assigned him. He hadn’t needed it before—fire abilities made it tricky. But now, it might help protect his clothes while flying—and offer extra defense. His body was already superhuman, but those wind shears? Still painful.
With new motivation, Lu Xingchen picked up the crucible, determined to study the bracelet and its transparent fire jets. From the start, he’d noticed its terrifying heat—it was even stronger than his Skyfire Sword.
He changed into something comfortable, brewed a pot of tea, and sat down to investigate.
“Forbidden item? What’s so forbidden about something this miraculous? It lets me fly, it breathes fire…”
Wind and flame in a perfect cycle.
He looked at the bracelet, now curled into the shape of an infinity symbol (∞).
“Let’s call you… Infinite Ring.”
He smiled.
“Perfect. Just perfect.”
