Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 118: Women’s Challenges
Chapter 118: Women’s Challenges
After a few minutes of rest, Elena and the others left the space and returned to the bank, ready to proceed as planned to visit the museum next.
Just as they were about to go downstairs, they heard footsteps coming from below, catching them by surprise.
’Did someone else want to rob the bank too?’
As the footsteps grew louder, they quickly ducked into a secluded spot, alert and ready to strike if the situation escalated.
Elena spotted a group of people in black dresses—probably thieves—hurrying up the stairs. She believed they were anxious upon seeing that the doors on each floor had already been opened.
They watched them as their figures disappeared from their sight.
Since they had already taken the item, lingering too long for a fight would be a waste of time. So, they decided to leave the bank covertly.
"Let’s go," Ethan suggested, noticing the people passing by without a glance at them.
As they quickly continued down the stairs, they heard shouts and angry voices, likely realizing that the bank they had set their eyes on had already been robbed, rendering their efforts futile.
Soon, they arrived at the fifth-floor window through which they had entered. Oslo then used a rope to descend and retrieved the motorboat from the space.
Once he was settled, Elena exited to his location, dragging both Ethan and Lydia with her. Overall, the process was smooth and effortless.
As Ethan looked at the surging water and the limited visibility, he took the helm of the motorboat this time. The engine roared to life, loud and noisy, but thankfully, the fog obscured the view, making it difficult to pinpoint the source of the sound.
Navigating remained as challenging as ever; it was impossible to predict which objects might collide with the motorboat, so they scanned carefully for debris that could have been swept past them.
Additionally, the fog obscured their view, increasing the risk of veering off course, so they moved slowly toward their destination.
Just as they were about to turn left, they spotted a boat in the distance approaching rapidly. Initially, they thought it was merely passing by, but as it drew nearer, they realized it was trying to cut them off.
"It seems these people are up to no good," Oslo said, watching the boat trying to corner them.
"Let’s prepare. If intimidation doesn’t work, then eliminating the threat is our best option," Ethan replied, maneuvering the motorboat safely out from the surging water in preparation for a confrontation.
Everyone nodded in agreement. Elena retrieved her gun, prepared to fire if the rogue made a move.
As the boat approached, she quickly assessed the number of individuals on board. The large inflatable boat could accommodate up to eight people.
At first glance, they appeared to be ordinary men, but upon closer examination, their eyes betrayed a sinister agenda.
"Hello! You are trespassing. This section belongs to our group. I suggest you either leave or hand over your supplies to pass through," the leader demanded, his gaze fixed greedily on the motorboat.
"Pardon me! I wasn’t aware that this public area had been claimed by your group and turned into private property. Could you show us your proof?" Elena sneered, regarding them as if they were fools.
"No proof, just a recent award from the government," the leader lied, clearly irritated by Elena’s persistent questioning. "Now, are you going to hand over the supplies?"
Lydia nearly laughed at their absurdity.
"What if we don’t?" Elena replied, her gaze icy.
"Then you can leave, but you have to abandon the motorboat for wasting our time," the leader demanded, raising his gun at them.
Ethan immediately shielded his wife, furious at the leader’s arrogance. He wanted to eliminate them all—no more intimidation.
"If you take our boat, how are we supposed to return home?" Elena said, giving them one final chance to reconsider.
"Oh! How about you join us, and we can take care of you, beauty?" the group leader leered at her, while the others laughed, appraising Elena’s figure.
Ethan snapped, his gaze cold as he stared at the leader, done listening to their nonsense. Without hesitation, he fired a shot straight at the leader’s head.
The man fell, tossing his gun into the water. Ethan’s action sent panic through the group; they were stunned to see their prey armed and ready to fight back.
"Leader!!"
"What have you done?"
The rogue members glared at Ethan, their faces twisted with anger as they sought revenge for their fallen leader.
Elena was dumbfounded.
They were the ones attempting to rob her and take their motorboat, yet now they were acting like the victims. The absurdity of the situation left her speechless as she tried to comprehend their twisted logic.
"Tsk! So dramatic. Don’t make me laugh. If you want us to leave without a boat, then you’ll leave without yours, too. An eye for an eye."
"What are you going to do?" a member asked, his voice trembling.
Seeing that they didn’t have guns, Elena cast a sinister look at the rogue group. She fired a shot at their boat, creating a hole that caused it to deflate, sending the group into a panic as it began to sink slowly into the water.
"Since you love to see people drown, this time it’s your turn. Swim well on your way back to your hideouts."
As the water surged, survival became increasingly difficult. They began by begging, trying to paint themselves as pitiful, but when they realized Elena and her group wouldn’t budge, they resorted to cursing them.
They shouted that they would meet the same fate, declaring that heaven would punish them for their actions.
Lydia was taken aback; these rogues were hypocrites.
They had been arrogant when in a position of power, but now that they found themselves at a disadvantage, they were trying to paint them as the villain.
"You will never have a good ending!" a member roared as the boat sank completely into the water.
"Hahaha! Well, at least you’ll be punished first," Elena laughed, looking at them with disdain for their stupidity.
’Heaven, my ass!’
After a few minutes, the rogue group was swept away by the water, never to be seen again.
"They’re too arrogant. Now that they’re at a disadvantage, they want to portray us as the villains," Lydia lamented, angered by the rogue’s audacity as she recalled the way he had looked at her with lust.
"This is how humans behave without laws. They place themselves as above everyone else. Look at the rogue; they believe that with guns around them, they are invincible. Too bad they underestimate us," Elena replied. freewёbnoνel.com
Afterwards, they started moving again. This time, they chose to navigate areas away from the city center and sought a more secluded and safer route.
"Aside from that, being a woman also meant being looked down upon," Lydia said, reflecting on her experiences over the past few weeks.
"Women always bore the brunt whenever the men were the bad guys, seen either as tools to be used or as slaves to do their work."
"I know it’s frustrating, but we can’t change their ways. Instead, let’s shake them awake from their delusions. We women can do the same things men can do. Let this motivate us to grow stronger, as men’s misconceptions about women are unlikely to improve, especially as disaster looms," Elena replied, frustrated yet empowered by her past life experiences.
’When you are strong enough, no one will dare look down on you.’
In her past life, although she did not suffer much from this disaster due to her husband’s care, she still occasionally heard nasty remarks from men, reducing her to a pretty face meant for their pleasure.
She felt angry but powerless, afraid that any confrontation would put the Caldwell family at a disadvantage. That’s why she asked Ethan to teach her everything—both combat and shooting.
It was thanks to him, she became a master in both tactics.
Unbeknownst to Elena, anyone who spoke ill of her, Ethan would covertly seek revenge on her behalf.
However, everything changed when she awakened her ability. She freed herself from the constraints imposed by these dirty men and her name became a taboo among them.
They trembled in fear, knowing she would hunt down anyone who dared to pissed her off.
Elena sighed, remembering the days when she was powerful. Now, she had to work hard once more to regain those moments.
Seeing his wife sigh loudly, Ethan felt distressed. He leaned closer and consoled her, saying. "Wife, I will never look down on you. You are so powerful to me."
"Yeah, sister-in-law, you’re so powerful, as if you know everything," Oslo added.
Elena rolled her eyes and said, "I said ’bad guys.’ I never said it was you. We base our opinions on the rogues, thugs, and criminals who see us women that way. There are still good men out there—just like you."
Lydia finally smiled as she recalled Elena’s words. She needed to work harder to protect herself. Determined, she resolved to ask Oslo for advanced combat training later.
Feeling someone staring at him, Oslo turned to find Lydia gazing at him intently. He teased, "Why are you staring at me?"
Lydia sneered, thinking, ’He’s still so annoying.’
"Give me the map. We’ve been circling this area for too long," she said, grabbing the offline map. As an architect, she was skilled at navigating their surroundings.
