Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 89: Finally home
Chapter 89: Finally home
After settling inside the RV, everyone was looking forward to arriving at Camel Tower.
The thought of finally reaching their destination filled them with anticipation and excitement as they envisioned the comfort and safety that awaited them.
"Oslo, take a rest first. I’ll handle the wheel," Ethan said.
"Noted, chief," Oslo replied, stretching his arms. He then excused himself to grab a snack from the kitchen.
Ethan immediately took the wheel while Elena sat beside him to keep him company.
"Wife, fasten your seatbelt. There are still potholes on the road, and I might have to pause momentarily," Ethan warned her.
"Hmmp, just drive carefully, husband. I think the government has already cleared this area of debris, but we still need to be cautious."
As the two of them focused on driving the RV, the older group members discussed their observations from the past few days in the living room.
"This typhoon was sudden, and I hope it won’t put us in a difficult situation again," Grandpa Ford said.
"I hope so. Sigh, aside from that, the people now are so frightening. We must always be careful about who we deal with; let’s not meddle in someone else’s business as much as possible," Grandma Ford replied.
"Yeah, staying low-key during this natural disaster would be better; there would be less stress and fewer worries," Grandpa Ford added.
"Husband, if I do something wrong, you must tell me, okay?" Grandma Ford said. She wanted her husband to warn her if she did something that the team wouldn’t like.
"Wife, don’t worry. I will always take care of you," he assured her.
Seeing their affection, Grandpa Caldwell couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy.
’I miss my wife.’
But soon, his focus shifted to the realization that he was still blessed to have his family surrounding him.
"We must always think from the team’s perspective before acting on our own," Grandpa Caldwell resolutely declared, emphasizing that everyone should prioritize their safety as a team, just as his granddaughter had suggested a while ago.
Everyone nodded in agreement.
"Let’s eat first," Uncle Anthony suggested.
He then transformed the living room into a dining area and brought out the food that his mother had cooked earlier.
Today, they had chicken braised soup to warm their bodies. They felt happy that they had access to food anytime they wanted and could still enjoy their favorite meals despite the disaster.
After a few minutes, they finally saw Building D more clearly. It was a standard apartment complex with a balcony for every unit. Four identical buildings stood in separate locations, with each thirty stories tall, featuring a simple yet appealing design.
Ethan had purchased an apartment in Building C, specifically on the 26th to 30th floors.
Back at Elena’s side, the moment she saw Building D, a sigh of relief washed over her. Finally, just a few turns, and they would arrive at Building C.
Elena actually wanted to exit at Xander’s location, but her husband disagreed for a specific reason: it would be suspicious if they just popped out of nowhere.
Soon, they arrived at the drop-off point for Building C. Everyone lined up and rushed to the nearest waiting area for shelter as the rain intensified and the wind picked up.
They needed a moment to catch their breath before bravely continuing toward the lobby of Building C.
As they ran ahead, they spotted a man and a woman clinging to a post, afraid of being swept away by the strong wind.
’Haist! The typhoon is now showing its true prowess.’
Thankfully, their strength had greatly increased after drinking the well water, making it easier for them to run in this situation. However, Uncle Anthony still continued to assist them as they moved forward.
"Okay, on the count of five, let’s run to the lobby."
From the waiting area, they dashed straight to the lobby of Building C. They had initially tried to walk with an umbrella, but the wind bent it, rendering it useless.
Upon arriving at the entrance, they immediately pressed the buzzer to notify the guard to let them in.
However, the guard demanded their unit number along with proof of identity, suspicious of their dishevelled appearance.
Oslo then showed his residence card, allowing him to enter.
According to the guard, people had been trying to enter the building without a permit over the past few days, and some had even attempted to rob a unit. As a result, they were now on high alert for anyone trying to gain entry.
Oslo thanked the guard for the information and reminded him about the impending typhoon.
"Thank you, guard. By the way, the typhoon is getting stronger. I suggest you stock up on essentials for yourselves. It’s better to be safe than sorry later."
"Typhoon? According to the government, this is just a low-pressure area; there’s no need to panic," the guard said, dismissing Oslo’s warning.
They decided not to insist any further; they had already reminded him out of goodwill, and it was up to him to believe what he wanted. They soon entered the lobby, registering one by one.
Meanwhile, Elena and Ethan were searching for a secluded area to store the RV in space. Afterwards, they ran back toward the waiting shed.
Looking at his wife, Ethan felt distressed as he saw her wet once again.
"Wife, you just changed your clothes, and now you’re wet again," Ethan frowned.
"What do you expect? It’s raining so hard," Elena replied.
"Then I’ll help you clean up later," Ethan offered.
Elena stopped looking around and glared at her husband.
’This man just tortured me a while ago, and now he wants to do it again.’
"Wife? Why are you looking at me like that?" Ethan asked playfully.
"No need to help me; I can do it myself. Your idea of helping is way too much for me," Elena replied resolutely.
"Wife, what are you thinking about? I have pure intentions this time."
’As if! Look at your smirking face. Hmmp, you won’t fool me again.’
"Let’s move forward to the lobby."
"Okay, wife. Let’s run together," Ethan said, holding his wife’s hand as he prepared to dash to the lobby.
Elena raised her brows. Would it be difficult to run like this?
’Why does it feel like we’re having a romantic date amidst the brewing storm?’
But seeing her husband’s blissful smile, she decided to hold her tongue.
’Let it be, as long as he’s happy.’
They ran to the portico and pressed the buzzer to notify someone inside. The guard opened the door and repeated the same words he had said to Oslo.
Elena replied, "We are with them. We don’t have proof yet because we just arrived and haven’t registered ourselves."
After assessing their appearance, which seemed to meet the standard of good people, the guard let them in.
As they entered the lobby, they were surprised to see their team arguing with someone else.
’We haven’t even settled down yet, and now we have a potential enemy. Haist!’
