Ashes of a Fallen Legacy-Chapter 41: Encounter [2]
Chapter 41 - Encounter [2]
Zane remained still for a while, watching as two of the three people in front of him, laughed as if there was no tomorrow. Meanwhile, Arlo's demeanor was as fierce as ever. Looking at Zane as if he was some kind of prey.
"Really? Then... prove it to me."
Hearing those words, Zane looked at Arlo blankly. Those words can mean many things, he just hoped it was as simple as it sounds.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you saying anything, Zane? Was I right after all? Can you not prove what you had just said?"
As Zane remained still for a moment, deep in thoughts, he finally responded.
"...How can I prove it to you?"
As Zane said those words, a wide smile appeared on Arlo's face.
"Well, it's simple, really. Let's have a duel."
As those words came out of Arlo's mouth, the two people who had remained silent for a while now finally broke their silence.
"Wait, seriously?"
"Woah, Arlo, you are crazy man. You really wanna beat him up like that?"
Zane meanwhile had a dumbfounded look on his face. Although he had expected something like this to happened, he still find it absurd. Why can't everything just be peaceful for once? Ever since the day of his third year started, things haven't been going so well.
Hearing those words, Zane simply remained silent. Arlo was the strongest mage in Ironveil castle, although he wasn't really that strong compared to Thaleward's with higher potential, he was still ahead of those in the same rank as him.
So, there was no way Zane was definitely going to take that duel. Well, he does have Velrath with him, which he could just ask to switch places with once the duel starts, but still, he didn't wanna rely on such underhanded tactics against a duel with someone like Arlo.
If anything, he wanted to get back on Arlo all on his own, simply for the fun of it. Not just him but many of those people who had taken advantage of him as well. Zane knew that revenge was not a good thing, yet he yearned for it.

But, who could blame him? He had endured so much. He had faced so much humiliation, embarrassment, failures, and he paid the price for it. People judged him, looked down on him, to the point where he started developing anxiety at such a young age.
All that remained in his heart was madness. Madness that he tried to hide so much, simply because such madness went against his character and principles. No matter how hard life is, he would simply endure all of it, while trying his best to improve.
"Ah, don't look at me like that, Zane. Of course, we won't held the duel today, but in a week later. That way, it would give you more time to prepare, and it wouldn't be so boring, like our duel before."
Arlo paused for a moment, before continuing, he then said.
"So, how about it? Deal?"
Hearing Arlo's words, Zane's eyes widened slightly. He took a moment of silence before responding. Thinking of the best choice he could make.
'In a week's time? Well... if its in a week's time then, I might be able to pull it off. I was able to learn 8 spells in just 3 days, so how much spells would I be able to learn in a week's time if I just keep learning everyday?'
'Wait, hold on. I have to consider the fact that it had been a long, long time, since I have seen Arlo. That means that, all those years, Arlo must've gotten a lot stronger. Although he maybe a D-ranker, he was greedy for power. He was a training maniac.'
'...And what the hell does he mean by boring? Back then I was like 12 years old, and I didn't even know any offensive spells that time at all. the time when we held the duel, all the spell I knew were simple spells used for daily life.'
Back then when Zane was still in Ironveil, Arlo had challenged him on a duel, which was pretty one sided. Considering that Zane only knew simple spells, which are used for helping you in your daily life.
Even right now, Zane had only learned a few offensive spells. It would've been lower if it weren't for the fact that Velrath was offering him free tutor. Thanks to Velrath he manage to learn 8 spells in 3 days, which is pretty much an impossible feat.
"Deal."
As soon Zane said those words, Arlo's smile disappeared, replaced by a serious expression. Then, he smiled widely again, like some crazy maniac. Meanwhile, the two people beside Arlo was looking at Zane strangely.
"Did he really just took the deal?"
"He probably thinks he's tough now since he passed the Ironveil trial."
They said as they laughed once again.
Meanwhile, Arlo stared at Zane for a moment before responding, he then said.
"Good... that's a good choice, Zane."
As Arlo said those words, he stared at Zane fiercely for a while, he then started moving, heading outside of the library.
"Let's go."
Right after he said those words, the people who were laughing at Zane, also started to move, following the man in front of them.
"Haha, good luck, Zane! Looking forward in your duel."
"Man, this is going to be fun!"
Zane stared blankly at the empty space in front of him, where three people could be seen before. Now it was only him.
"Can I do it? Can I really beat Arlo? I know I have gotten strong but, I don't think I'm strong enough to be able to beat the likes of Arlo."
"Well, maybe if I fought him fairly..."
Arlo is a strong guy to the point that he is even compared to a lot of top tiers coming from C-rankers. In fact, some consider ahead of the C-rankers. So, how was he going to beat someone like that? It's simple, exploit his weakness.
Zane is a very observant guy. So, he knew very well, what Arlo's strength and weaknesses are. Which would give him a really large advantage in their duel.
