Chapter 276: Coming For You

As soon as his bones were fixed, the wish went to work on his skin, healing everything until he was back to normal. His blonde hair flowed from his skull and his piercing brown eyes stared down at me as his black eye healed.

The look of hatred on his face wasn’t one that one gave to their savior, but I didn’t mind. After all, I wasn’t his savior, and he was about to realize that. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

As soon as his body was healed, he gasped and looked at his hands in awe. Every last cut, every scar, every imperfection on his skin was completely gone, and now he looked to be more in his 20s than his 60s.

It was amazing what a bit of torture could do to age a person.

He was an attractive sort of human, and I could see where he had gotten his attitude from. Most people wouldn’t have been able to deny him anything. He looked like one of those movie stars or the popular kid on TV.

"That’s better," he smirked at me. "And thanks for nothing. I’ll be sure to spread the word. But just one question... are you fucking all of them? It might be a bigger draw to get people here if you would throw in a quick fuck at the same time."

Letting out a long sigh, I wondered if I should have cut out his tongue before fixing him. But at least with it in, more people will try to kill him, so I guess there was that.

"I am," I replied with a nod of my head. "But I wouldn’t be thanking me too much; after all, you aren’t quite done yet."

The look of scorn on his face was priceless as he stared at me like I was a bug or something. "What are you talking about? I am perfection."

However, before he could continue, his breath caught as he stared at his hands. The very tips of his fingers were changing from white to grey, almost like something was being printed on top of him, line by line.

"What the fuck?" he demanded, looking up at me as he shook his hands like he was trying to fling off the grey. "What’s going on?"

"Didn’t your mother ever caution you to be careful what you wished for?" I asked, cocking my head to the side as the grey picked up speed. Soon enough, it was covering his entire body from the tip of his hair to the soles of his feet.

"I—" he started as his words were cut off. Small horns popped out of his head, and wings sprouted from his back right before the grey encased them as well. His mouth was left open, and his eyes were huge as he froze in front of me.

"Since you wished to be strong enough that you couldn’t be hurt, congrats, you now can’t be hurt," I chuckled as Salvatore stepped up to the marble statue and knocked against the skin.

"Marble?" he asked, turning around to look at me for a second before turning back to the new gargoyle on the porch. "Concrete?"

"Don’t know," I shrugged. "But I don’t want it by the front door. Go throw it in the moat; maybe Tink can use him for decorations or something."

"Holy shit," grunted Beau as he, too, poked at the new statue. "His eyes are moving. Can he hear us?"

"Probably," I replied, turning around and burying my head in Daddy’s chest. "After all, he is still alive; he’s just covered in marble."

"Huh," grunted Luca as he kissed the top of my head as he passed me to study the gargoyle. "Interesting."

"You can’t live in this world without pain," I stated, turning my head to look at the man. I actually liked this look for him more than his human form. At least this monster was a true reflection of the beast inside him. "It isn’t a matter of being strong enough; it’s a matter of accepting that the world isn’t fair. Whatever, he made a wish, and this is the outcome. I’m going back to bed."

There was no sign, no difference, that marked this day as something important to the very fate of the world. The sun shone down on the Earth like it always did, and birds chirped happily as they flew from tree to tree.

"Interesting," muttered the man who had just appeared in the middle of the bayou. "Chaos and order all in one. It’s an interesting creation."

The man had no idea why he was feeling a draw to this world, this realm. He had been asleep since the beginning of time when the Creator who formed this planet pushed him into the Void. The formless, ever-shifting darkness that existed beyond the realms of Heaven, Hell, and Earth had no sound, no time, nothing. It was nothing but an expanse of eternal, maddening emptiness.

But even in the nothingness, there was chaos. Chaos came before order, for if you don’t know what the first was, how could you appreciate the second? The Creator, as he liked to call himself, hated chaos and everything that it stood for, so he created two realms to ensure that order reigned.

He, on the other hand, didn’t care enough one way or the other, so when pushed, he simply went into the Void.

So why was he here? What called to him on an almost elemental level?

Closing his eyes, he took in a deep breath of the fresh air.

There, off in the distance, was something of pure chaos, similar to himself and yet so different. This chaos was celebrated, not hated. It was contained and yet free. It was everything he was, and yet... not.

The smile on his face was bright as his eyes shone with excitement for the first time in his existence. This was where he needed to be, and that chaos was something that he needed to see.

For if he was right, that chaos belonged to him.

"Just wait for me, Darling," he purred, his voice sending the animals around him running away in fear. "I am coming for you."
