Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 288: Questions
Chapter 288: Questions
"Interesting," I said, a smirk on my face as I looked at the newcomer. "You were actually willing to walk through fire for this bitch. I’m impressed."
"I would walk through fire for all the doctors under me," announced the woman, going to stand beside the doctor on the other side of the table. "What’s going on?"
"She refuses to strip," announced the original doctor, an innocent look on her face. "I told her that she couldn’t get through this checkpoint until I was able to ascertain whether or not she had been bitten." freewebnøvel.com
"I think we can all see that that is a lie," I chuckled softly, resting the back of my head against Tank’s ribs. He growled low in his throat, and I couldn’t hold back my bark of laughter as the two women turned pale. "After all, I am standing here, completely naked, waiting for this inspection. Just because I refuse to be naked in front of strange men doesn’t mean that I am not complying."
The new doctor nodded her head and stepped around the table. "Could you come closer so I can see your skin? You are currently covered in flames, and I’m not able to see around them."
Nodding my head, I patted Tank and stepped forward. While I might have been wearing undergarments before, they had now been completely burned off. Holding out my arms to the side, I stared straight ahead as the woman walked around me.
"No signs of injury," she announced, going back to the table and motioning to my clothes. "You can get dressed while we go through the rest of your medical history."
"There’s more?" I asked, strolling forward. I hated being naked in front of anyone else. In fact, my skin was itching so bad from their gaze that I wanted to rip it all off. However, I wasn’t going to give the cunt the pleasure of seeing just how uncomfortable she had made me.
After I was dressed, I looked over my shoulder at Tank. "I’m good, thank you, baby," I smiled at him. With a snap of my fingers, Tank and his flames shrunk back down to size. Coming beside me, he licked the tips of my fingers before turning his attention to the two women.
"Impressive," murmured the second doctor. "Can you do that with any animal or just him?’
"I don’t know," I replied with a shrug. "Why do I need another animal when I have Tank?"
"In case Tank runs away or dies, it would be important to know if you could do that," replied the doctor, looking down at the paperwork in front of her.
"Tank won’t run away, and he can’t die," I said, taking a seat in one of the chairs. "So there is no point."
"Still, for scientific purposes, it is important that we have this type of information recorded," said the woman, really not paying me any mind. "Have you ever been bitten by a zombie?"
"No."
"Have you ever had sex with a zombie?"
"No," I answered, more than a little confused. Had that really happened so much that they had to make it part of the screening process?
"Have any of your family been bitten by zombies, became zombies, or were eaten by zombies?" she continued, going through the checklist.
"No."
"How long have you been outside."
"Four years, give or take three," I answered, a smirk on my face.
"Please just answer the questions," snapped the original doctor.
"Do you hear voices in your head?"
"No," I snapped. But fucking Christ, I wish that one of the guys was in my head right now.
"Have you ever wanted to kill yourself?"
That question made me freeze. The short answer was yes... I had. But then I learned that I couldn’t bring myself to do it. Then I hoped that Père would succeed where I failed, and then that didn’t happen either. However, since I met the guys?
"No."
"You took a while to answer that question," snapped the first doctor, narrowing her eyes at me. "Why?"
"Because you asked if I ever. I was going through each year of my life to get the answer you wanted," I replied with a sigh. "Are we almost done?"
"Almost. Are you here alone?" asked the second woman.
"No, my husband and dog came with me," I answered.
"Do you have anyone outside of this Sanctuary that would be concerned about your whereabouts?"
My eyes narrowed at that question. "No," I said, my face completely blank as I looked across the table at them.
"Congrats," nodded the second doctor, signing the paper in front of her. "You have passed the first checkpoint. When your husband is done with his questions, then you two can proceed through to the second checkpoint. Best of luck."
I hummed, still turning over that last question in my head. Why did it sound like they were screening me for something other than allowing me into the Sanctuary?
"Well," I murmured softly as I buried my fingers in Tank’s fur. "I have a bad feeling about this," I sighed. Pressing my face into his neck, I couldn’t keep the smile off my face.
This was going to be so much fun.

Eric stepped forward the second the other half of the room was engulfed in flames. "What is going on?" grunted the guard standing beside him.
"No idea," replied Eric, his eyes never leaving the outline of the black dog in the fire. "What are they doing over there?"
"They should be taking your wife into a separate room and examining her for any signs of wounds or infections," replied the doctor, pulling Eric’s attention away from where Lucy was. "But don’t worry about your wife. Let me show you the room; you can strip and then get back dressed. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. After that, I have a list of questions to ask you, and then you are done."
Eric grunted, the smile firmly on his face even as his eyes narrowed. If it was that simple, then Lucy wouldn’t have had Tank explode like that.
His skin was crawling as the doctor led him through a concealed door in the wall. Quickly removing his shirt and jeans, Eric spun around before getting dressed.
"Great. Now to the questions."
