Chapter 107: The Balance

"Where I was raised. People didn’t know about me. They believed in many other kinds of Gods. And I realized that many Gods actually exist. It only needs people to believe in them. There’s a group of Gods called Nordic Gods. There was the God Father of All, Odin. He had the wisdom and power of Nature. Frigga, his Queen, Goddess of Love. There were other Gods like the God of Thunder, Thor. Goddess of Sun, Sunna. And some others." She started to tell and he listened quietly. "Odin, knowing that there are some things that will always exist, chose Gods that weren’t only related to good things. Can you imagine the other kinds of Gods?"

"No."

"Loki, the God of Mischief. Hel, Goddess of Death, Underworld, and Decay. Tyr, God of War." She answers.

He looks at her, wondering where she wants to go.

"Once, a terrible Wolf, called Fenrir, was destroying everything and everyone. He was strong and big, no one could defeat him. The God of War, Tyr, decided to interfere and found a way to destroy the wolf. He was given an unbreakable rope, but he couldn’t put it in Fenrir. He would die before it. So Tyr challenged Fenrir to wear the rope, and Fenrir said he would wear it and if he couldn’t get free he would take Tyr’s hand off. When Fenrir couldn’t release himself he bit Tyr’s hand off. In other words, Tyr sacrificed himself for the balance, knowing he would lose his hand from the beginning." She tells.

"What an idiot."

She giggles.

"Might be. But there is no war when everyone is the same. There’s no evil if there’s no good to compare. If all beastmen were monsters, who you would get? Yourselves?" She asks him, and that makes him think deeply.

"Now I understand your point. So, you helped me because you need me?"

"We need each other." She simply answers. "There’s no real balance if we don’t understand that there’s a meaning for everything that exists in this world. Fool is the one that believes that we need to kill or overpower each other. I never planned that. And I never will. I’m just here to say that you went too far."

She sighs a bit nauseous.

"I’m not feeling quite well. I’ll sleep a bit, all right?" She says and turns her back to him, covering herself again.

He watches her for some time and soon he hears her breathing longer, showing she’s really asleep. What she said makes complete sense, but it’s crazy for him to think that she would help willingly the one who killed her father. Why her father didn’t help him and she did?

——

Back at the United Tribes, Astri’s spouses are still trying to keep their heads in place since they feel their spousal marks burning constantly, sometimes it’s only tingling and sometimes burning stronger. They don’t want to even imagine what is happening to her there.

"Try to relax all of you. I know that it hurts, but I’m sure she’s doing this on purpose." Galion tells them, while Claud is meditating.

"What do you mean on purpose?" Shung asks, he’s the only outsider with them.

"Even the Monster King wouldn’t torture her for so long and constantly. He needs her alive. She’s probably putting herself close to him all the time because like this Claud can find her through her energy and also spousal mark. Through their spousal mark is faster than through her energy." Galion tells.

"It makes sense. Astri is smart." Wayde says, but it’s still killing his heart.

Then from nowhere, their marks burned even stronger. They look at each other with the same fear in their hearts. After some seconds their spousal marks stopped burning so much.

"What the hell was that? What did he do to her?" Lee asks, rubbing his spousal mark.

They look at Claud with closed eyes, still meditating. And after several minutes he gives a relieved sigh:

"Found her."

Then others run to him and touch where they can touch to try to see her. They see her asleep in a type of nest and the Monster King on her side. She’s all covered and they’re worried if it’s too cold where she is.

"She’s asleep. I can’t talk to her. Even if I do talk to her, he might notice." Claud says.

"Get into his mind and kill him." Wayde speaks.

"We will kill each other. How will you find her without me and in the middle of a city full of Monsters? I need to make a portal when he’s not watching." Claud answers.

Claud examines her energy and it feels disturbed, or weak, somehow. Like she’s sick.

"She feels sick.. Her energy is oddly low." He says, worried.

"Of course, she will get sick in such a place." Lee speaks.

They watch Kangki turning to her again and then hugging her from behind, making them see red. Claud has to concentrate to not let his presence be noticeable, or else he won’t have another chance so soon.

"Everyone. I need you to step away. Your energies are affected and I’ll get too tired of keeping our presence hidden." Claud says.

The others sigh but they understand and step back, and only stay watching Claud’s reactions.

Claud watches when she wakes up and throws up, shocking him.

"She’s throwing up.." Claud tells the others who are dying to know what he’s seeing.

"Why? Is she sick?" Zin asks.

Claud watches Kangki helping her, giving her water and offering some food. Then cleaning where she threw up, and then putting more wood in the fire.

"Apparently, he’s taking care of her." Claud says.

Then he sees Astri passing her hand in her belly, in circular motions. Then he finally understood all the signs. She is sleepy all the time, not wanting to eat, and now throwing up.

"She’s pregnant.."

Everyone is in complete shock. Not believing what they heard. Normally they would be beaming to know that, but in this circumstance, that’s a really bad moment to be pregnant.

"We need to save her. We can’t let her live there."

"I’ll try to bring her as near as possible. I just need to wait for the best moment."

Claud watches them in silence all the time. Like a hidden ant. Astri is telling him projects of how to build things, then she builds with her powers an entrance in the front of the cave to prevent the sand from coming inside.

"Much better, right? The sand is not coming inside. But now it’s too dark. Can you break here and make a window?" She asks Kangki.

"A window?"

She takes a white rock and draws to him where to break.

"Won’t that make the sand come inside again?" He asks.

"The entrance wall is protecting this window too. We will build a window made of wood so we can close the window to have more privacy too." She says.

"What is privacy?"

"A place where only we can be and no one will see or is allowed inside." She answers.

He smiles approvingly.

"I like privacy."

"Everyone does, smart ass. I’ll start to prepare a new bed for us."

"Can we have privacy forever?"

"Yeah. We can." She laughs.

She sat down to start working and he looked at her with impressed eyes because she just laughed. She really doesn’t fear him or she’s stupid. When he starts to break the wall, Astri feels her body go light from nowhere making her get startled. Kangki saw her body going through a black hole and then she looked scared at him, raising her hands in his direction.

He runs and jumps, and holds her hand, but the hole is pulling her. His body is held in place and he can’t move. But he holds her hand tightly.

She tries to come back, pulling herself and Kangki is confused seeing her wanting to come back to him. Nature tells her to let him go, so she stops fighting and smiles at Kangki.

"Remember. I need you and you need me. Think carefully about what you want from me, Kangki." She says and then kisses his forehead.

His shock made his grip lose a bit and then she let him go and let her body be taken.

Kangki screams angrily and makes a dark fog explode in the cave.

"I’ll kill that unicorn!!!"

——

Astri feels her body falling on a tree, she tries to half-shift, but before she flaps her wings, she falls on a thick branch with the side of her leg and hears a crack.

She flies away holding her leg. She feels lands on the ground and her right leg is hurting so much she wants to scream.

But she’s worried about the baby, so she sits, lays down, and takes deep breaths to calm down and concentrate. All this pain might make her lose the baby and she doesn’t want that.

After spending a long time taking deep breaths, she feels a bit better but she needs to float to not force her leg. freēwēbnovel.com

"Astri!! I found you again!! Thank you, Nature."

"Claud.. I thought it was his son at the beginning, but when Nature told me to let go I knew it was you." She smiles, happy to hear his voice.

She hears the voices of her spouses mutually talking in her mind.

"I miss you too, my loves.. I love you."

"How are you?" Claud asks.

"I fell on a tree and I think I broke my right leg. It hurts a lot."

"Damn.. How are you feeling? Claud saw you throwing up and he believes you’re pregnant. Is it true?" Wayde asks.

"Yes.. I am. The family is getting bigger. I’m doing everything to not feel too much pain so the baby is fine." She answers, and then looks around. "Where am I?" She asks.

"You’re far.. I never know exactly where my portals will take because I only use my energy. The Monster King uses others until they die. You’re near the Great Wall City." Claud speaks.

"It’s all right, love. I’m fine. He won’t get me now because he doesn’t know where I am. And even if he knew, he needs time to gather all those Monsters."

"We’re going to get you there. You.. will have to try to survive. We will find a way!" Lee says.

All of them are talking in a panic but also relieved that she’s away from Kangki. She doesn’t want them to panic, they need to think carefully about what to do.

"I’ll be fine. Let Claud rest. He must be too tired."

"We will find a way to help you. I’ll get in touch as soon as possible." Claud speaks.

"I know. How are the cubs?"

"Missing you a lot. But they’re fine. They’re taking care of each other."

"All right.. Tell them mommy is fine and is coming back."
