Becoming a God Starts with Acting-Chapter 40: [Frog] - The Prophet’s Part (15)
Chapter 40: [Frog] - The Prophet’s Part (15)
The flames carried a brilliant light that immediately illuminated the entire space. At the same time, the [Creation] bar in the core system of Silvanus dimmed by a third.
Silvanus silently felt a pang of heartache, but the fire was undeniably valuable. With the newfound light, the others quickly began searching.
Drake was perhaps the most frantic of them all—tossing books haphazardly, scattering them across the room. Silvanus even wondered if he was bothering to check the covers properly.
Yet, surprisingly, he was the first to find the book.
"Here it is!" Drake held a thick tome high above his head, sweat visible on his face, his eyes shining excitedly.
Prophet glanced at him before turning to Silas without hesitation, saying, "Check it."
Drake: "..."
He nearly roared, "What the hell do you mean by that?! Am I really that unreliable?!"
Prophet remained silent, entirely unconcerned with Drake’s feelings. By this time, Silas had already stepped forward, taking the book from Drake’s hands and flipping through it. He nodded firmly and said, "This is the one."
Pausing momentarily, he added, "You can fully trust Drake’s judgment." After all, Drake was only affected by his temper—he wasn’t the brainless fool many assumed him to be.
Moreover, Silas didn’t believe that Prophet misunderstood Drake. Despite how their relationship didn’t resemble that of a god and a believer, Silas had always felt there was a deep bond between them. At the very least, the Prophet never sought to punish Drake for his insolence, and Drake had never dared to actually challenge the Prophet, no matter how terrible the god’s attitude was.
Anyone who truly understood Drake would recognize his immense patience for Prophet.
Drake raised an eyebrow at Silas but ultimately gave a cold huff, saying nothing. On the other hand, Silvanus couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow internally.
Silas was respected for a good reason.
[Silas will be a good companion.]
Prophet’s voice suddenly echoed in Drake’s mind, making him flinch slightly. Fortunately, he was already used to these abrupt intrusions, so his expression barely changed.
He responded coldly: [I told you to stop randomly showing up in my head. And if you think Silas is so great, why don’t you make him your top follower instead?!]
Silvanus now understood Drake’s core principle—no one was allowed to be praised except for him.
[How childish.] Prophet remarked.
His words instantly made Drake’s face darken with rage, and even Silas seemed to notice his odd expression.
But just then, the entire house suddenly shook!
"Boom! Crash!"
"Ribbit! Ribbit!"
It felt as though something enormous had just slammed into the ground, accompanied by the deafening croak of a frog that echoed through the night sky.
"We need to get out of here! The room is collapsing!" Silas shouted.
Austin immediately lunged forward and punched the door.
"Bang!"
Under Austin’s strength, the door shattered into countless fragments—but his fist didn’t hit empty air. Instead, it struck a strange, solid entity.
It was part of a massive creature enveloping the house. Its pale, ghostly skin seemed to float, yet it carried an unbelievable resistance. Austin was instantly sent flying backward.
Drake caught him with one hand, his voice icy. "What the hell is that?!"
Just then, the thing covering the house suddenly swelled, and a loud "Ribbit" echoed once more...
"That’s a frog’s belly! It’s jumping—it wants to crush the room!" Silas shouted.
Even a tiny part of its belly had wholly blocked the door, giving them a glimpse of how enormous the creature was.
Almost the moment its belly disappeared, Drake and the others dashed forward, sprinting out of the room. Prophet flickered, vanishing and reappearing outside in an instant.
At that moment, the monster finally came into full view. It was indeed a gigantic frog—twice the size of Gon’s house.
BOOM!
Its massive body came crashing down, instantly flattening the house into nothing but rubble! If they had still been inside, they would have been reduced to nothing more than a pile of mangled flesh.
The frog bounced and then turned around, finally revealing its complete form. Its blood-red eyes gleamed in the darkness, brimming with bloodlust and malice. Its skin was slimmer than any regular frog, oozing green mucus, while sharp spikes lined its back. Its mouth swelled, making its belly appear even more massive. Then, in a sudden burst of speed—one far too quick for a creature of its size—it leaped straight at Drake and the others!
"I’ve always hated slimy things like this!" Drake roared before launching himself into the air. He landed on the monster’s shoulder, though the slick mucus made it challenging to keep his footing.
Frowning, he tightened his grip as the blade in his hand grew more significant by the second—until it became twice his size. Yet, despite its immense weight, Drake wielded it effortlessly. He drove the massive blade into the creature’s body, eliciting an ear-splitting roar of agony that seemed to shake the very sky. The downpour intensified, rain pounding against them in thick, heavy sheets.
Silas spoke grimly, "We can’t keep this up—if this drags on any longer, our rain cloaks won’t be able to shield us anymore!"
The rain was unnatural, its drops as heavy as arrows, easily piercing through the leaves above.
[At night, Gray is nearly invincible, and any rules don’t restrict him. He can chase them down without effort if these humans try to run. If they don’t kill him, sooner or later, they’ll be stuck in the rain for too long and turn into low-level monsters themselves!]
[I can’t allow that! Even if Silas and Drake are ridiculously handsome, they’d still look awful as mindless monsters! I won’t let that happen to my husbands!]
[Hahaha, "husbands," huh? Some people need to learn how to be faithful.]
[It’s just Delulu. No need to take it so seriously.]
[Wait, are you guys seriously debating this nonsense? Shouldn’t the real question be whether these humans will win or lose?]
[Let’s start betting! First, with Drake’s insane combat skills but complete lack of rule-breaking abilities, there’s no way he can kill Gray!]
[Agreed. At the very least, they’d have to destroy both of the monster’s eyes first. But unless an explosion miraculously happens, how the hell are they supposed to do that at the same time? Hahaha.]
Silvanus stared expressionlessly at the flood of comments flashing before his eyes and then shifted his gaze to Silas.
At that moment, a vertical eye appeared on Silas’s forehead. His crimson pupil shone even more intensely in the darkness than the monster’s, exuding a menacing presence. It darted back and forth as if peering into something beyond their sight.
Silvanus felt he didn’t need to intervene—Silas was about to act.
Above, Drake continued his relentless assault against the monster, but its regeneration was terrifyingly fast. Their only stroke of luck was that the frog had no tongue—otherwise, this fight would have been even more brutal.
Drake had now reached the monster’s head, yet despite his relentless strikes, it was still leaping around, attacking Silas and the others with terrifying force. Against such a colossal creature, they were nothing more than fragile, powerless ants.
The rain seeped into Drake’s cloak as holes began to form, allowing the water to soak through. He could feel the thick, slimy dampness against his skin.
"We can’t keep this up! Why the hell won’t you die?!" Drake roared, leaping even higher. He gathered his strength and plunged his sword straight through the monster’s skull.
"GRAGHHHHHH!"
In that instant, the massive blade embedded in the frog’s head began expanding rapidly—until it split the creature in half!
Drake landed on the ground, nearly collapsing as he coughed up a mouthful of blood. His giant sword shrank back to its standard size in an instant.
But the battle was far from over.
From the two severed halves of the monster’s body, a thick, green mucus oozed out, linking them together. The more it dripped, the more it spread—until it began pulling the two halves back together!
Austin lunged forward, tearing apart the binding mucus with his bare hands.
"Sizzle!" The sound of burning flesh rang out as, under the relentless rain, Austin’s hands were instantly reduced to a mangled mess the moment they touched the corrosive slime. But he didn’t stop.
This monster was almost impossible to kill!
"Destroy both of its eyes at the same time."
At that moment, Silas’s voice suddenly rang out.
He took a deep breath, and the eye on his forehead gleamed with an eerie light. Circular magic arrays formed around his head, glowing ominously as he parted his lips. His voice was deep, steady, and devoid of emotion:
"Stay still for one minute."
The moment he spoke, the glowing arrays disintegrated into cryptic, incomprehensible symbols that flowed straight into the monster’s body. Instantly, the creature froze, all signs of regeneration ceasing altogether.
Blood trickled from the corner of Silas’s lips, but he wiped it away without a care. His voice was calm as he said, "Do it."
Drake got to his feet, hefting his massive sword onto his shoulder with a heavy sigh. "You should’ve said that sooner—I could’ve saved some energy!" he grumbled.
He had already burned through a lot of power trying to land a finishing blow earlier. Now, he wasn’t even sure how robust the monster’s eyes were or how he was supposed to destroy both simultaneously...
Of course, he knew he could do it. But doing so would push his synchronization rate with the monster inside him even higher...
Thanks to Prophet’s words and power, that rate had only dropped after the last dungeon. And now, was it about to rise again? If it were the old him, Drake wouldn’t have hesitated—he would’ve thrown himself into battle recklessly, driven by pure instinct. But now, things were different. He no longer wanted to succumb to his inner beast.
Before Drake could move, however, a cold hand suddenly pressed down on his shoulder.
Prophet stepped past him.
Prophet raised a single hand and sent golden numbers cascading over the monster’s eyes. In an instant, they crumbled into ash, leaving behind no trace.
Though Prophet remained silent at that moment, his figure seemed impossibly vast—so steady and unwavering that it felt as if he alone could shield them all.
