Chapter 101: Video Call With Sawyer

"Abby, I’m as surprised as you are. This is the first time I’ve heard about this. Are you sure it belongs to your mother?" Sophie asked suspiciously.

Countless questions flooded Sophie’s mind. ’If my daughter owned the property, why didn’t she take it when she separated from Adam Snow? How did the certificate end up in Adam’s hands?’

"Yes, it belongs to my mother. I saw her signature on the document," Abigail replied, confused by the situation.

"That’s strange...She never told me about it," Sophie noted.

"I know." Abigail took a deep breath before continuing, "Grandma, do you think my greedy father took the property by force? And now, since it’s in my name, he wants to gain some money from it but can’t sell it?"

Sophie and Abigail fell silent momentarily, both lost in their thoughts as they contemplated the matter.

After a few seconds, Sophie finally said, "Abby, I think you are right. That’s why he contacted you again after so many years of abandoning you and asked you to return to his home."

"Yes, that’s what I thought, too." Abigail silently gritted her teeth, angry with her father. Now that she had heard her Grandma and understood what had happened, she decided to end the call. "Grandma, I’m going to end the call now. I’m sorry for interrupting your rest."

"It’s fine. I miss you and wanted to hear your voice. Just be careful, dear. I can’t trust that man anymore, even though he is your father," Sophie expressed her concern, worried that Adam Snow would harm her granddaughter.

"Grandma, he’s not my father. I’ve erased him from my mind. And, as I told you, I’ll remove his name from mine and use your family name instead. I’ll never feel at ease if I still carry his name!"

"I support you, dear. I support you. You can do whatever you need to, as long as you’re careful."

"Thanks, Grandma, I love you."

"I love you, too. Abby, I’ll be waiting for you this weekend. You still plan to visit me, right?"

"Yes, of course, I will definitely come to visit." Abigail smiled happily; however, her smile faded, and her heart tightened at the thought of arriving with Sawyer. She had already promised him that she would let him meet her Grandma.

But before Abigail could end the call to let her Grandmother rest, her Grandmother’s words stopped her.

"Abby, you promised to bring my grandson-in-law when you visit this weekend. I hope you still remember that, dear..."

Abigail almost choked at her words. How could her Grandmother refer to that as a promise when she only tried to comfort her after the news of her failed engagement with Ryland?

’Oh gosh, Grandma...’ She was rendered speechless. And how could her Grandmother have guessed that she already had a new man in her life?

She decided not to tell her Grandmother about her relationship with Sawyer. Instead, she responded, "Grandma, I will work hard to find the best candidate to become your grandson-in-law and bring him to meet you soon."

"You have my prayers, my darling. You have my prayers..." Sophie laughed. "Alright, I’m starting to feel drowsy now. I’ll talk to you later, dear. Good night, Abby..."

"Good night, Grandma. See you soon."

...

After talking to her Grandmother, Abigail quickly cleaned the dishes and rushed to her room. She needed to call Sawyer immediately.

However, before she made a call, Sawyer video-called her. Hurriedly, she settled onto the sofa. After making sure her appearance looked fine, she answered the call.

"Hi, Abby. You finally picked up my call..."

"Sorry, Sawyer," she said, guilty for making him wait.

"It’s fine. I’m just worried. I tried to call you several times, but your cell phone was busy. Who were you talking to?" he asked casually, but Abigail could see the concern flash in his gaze.

Abigail quickly explained the email she had received from her father, which prompted her to call her Grandmother for confirmation.

At first, Abigail felt embarrassed to tell Sawyer about her family, especially concerning her father. However, a few days after they officially started dating, she decided to share her family’s dark story with him. She wanted him to know the truth so he wouldn’t be shocked if her father, in the future, appeared before him and used her name to manipulate him.

Abigail had been open with Sawyer about her family to see if he would still want to be with her despite her father’s shameful behavior. She was grateful that Sawyer didn’t seem bothered by her father.

"I see," Sawyer replied briefly, feeling sorry for Abigail’s family situation. He wanted to help her but sometimes worried she might feel uncomfortable with his offer. He could only wait until she really needed him.

Abigail smiled faintly at Sawyer’s reaction and asked, "What do you think? Do you also suspect my father?" fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓

"Yes, just like you, I’m also suspicious," Sawyer replied calmly. "Do you want me to investigate this? I can ask my people to look into it." He offered.

"If it’s not too much trouble, then yes, please. I’m afraid to return to his house. He is so shameless and could do anything to harm me, " Abigail responded. Earlier, she actually wanted to ask him. Still, she was reluctant to do so because he was now in another country.

Sawyer noticed her anger and fear, which genuinely concerned him. "Abby, please don’t face him alone. Just wait for me, okay? I will help you. We will face him together."

"Hmm, I will wait for you. I’ve been too busy with the café and my—" Abigail paused to smile as the annoyance that had overwhelmed her earlier because of her father faded.

Sawyer observed the change in her expression, and it puzzled him. He felt curious about what was going on.

"Why do you look happy and excited now? What’s with the sudden change of mood? Is there some good news you want to share with me?" Sawyer asked curiously. He had hoped to talk about her rude fellow baristas, but it didn’t seem that was the topic now.

Abigail nodded, her smile growing wider.

"Yes!"
