Chapter 237: Uninvited Guest
Sitting across from Andy Bennet, Abigail couldn’t believe he had come to her office without calling first.
"My new company’s luck is improving with a big-shot businessman like you visiting my humble office. So, what can I do for you? And why did you suddenly show up here without a call so I can prepare ahead?" Abigail asked. She smiled faintly, narrowing her eyes at him while waiting for his response.
Andy chuckled, noticing her suspicious gaze. "hold on with that question. Despite your compliment, you don’t look happy to see me, sister-in-law," he remarked.
Abigail stifled a laugh at how casually he addressed her now. She liked it because Andy was completely different from when they last met; he seemed to avoid speaking to her.
"What makes you say that? I’m happy to see you, of course. A CEO from Silverstone Group visiting my humble office means you’ll bring more money— I mean, more business opportunities for my small company, right?"
Andy couldn’t help but laugh at her words. She sounded just like her husband, who was always focused on profit. He felt amused, recalling how Sawyer had said the same thing earlier.
When he called Sawyer to inform him he would be stopping by Abigail’s new company, Sawyer had remarked, "Don’t stop by if you don’t have a business opportunity to offer her."
"You know what, sister-in-law? Sawyer said the same thing. You two are a perfect match. You both express yourselves exactly alike," Andy said, shaking his head in amusement.
Abigail cheerfully replied, trying to keep the mood light, "Of course, we say similar things; he taught me well all about that..."
"You’re so on point, sister-in-law," Andy couldn’t agree more. "Oh, by the way, sister-in-law, I hear you haven’t taken your lunch yet?" he asked casually, surprising Abigail with his question.
A suspicious smile emerged on Abigail’s lips. ’Who told him? Milan can’t have mentioned it, right?’ she wondered.
"Huh? From whom did you hear that? I need to know who told you that," Abigail asked curiously.
Andy rubbed his eyebrow while smiling. "It was Vincent. Vincent told me about it. Don’t be mad at him. He did it because he asked my help to remind you about lunch before letting me into your office."
"I see. No wonder Vincent let you in without contacting me..." Abigail shook her head lightly. Just as she intended to ask why he stopped by, she noticed him suddenly standing up.
"Are you leaving now? Seriously, Andy? Why did you stop by my office again?" Abigail couldn’t believe this man had suddenly appeared in her office and was already about to leave.
"Sister-in-law, would you believe me if I said your husband knows I stopped by here?"
Abigail was stunned. She silently scolded herself for not checking her cell phone earlier. She guessed Sawyer must have tried to contact her about it, right?
"When I told Sawyer I was in the area and wanted to visit you, he asked me to drag you out of your office for lunch. Let’s go, sister-in-law! I’ve already reserved the VIP room at Tatami House and Kitchen. You’ll love the food there, right?"
Abigail was at a loss for words. She could only smile and stand up from her seat, "Alright, just give me a few seconds..."
She rushed to her desk, grabbed her bag and cell phone, and followed Andy to the elevator.
...
The distance between the restaurant and Abigail’s office was short, so instead of driving, they decided to walk, with Vincent and a few men following them from behind.
Several people recognized Andy Bennet’s presence as they made their way to the restaurant. They were shocked to see him walking before them. Many began secretly recording or taking photos, and some became curious about the woman walking beside Andy.
Abigail noticed the onlookers snapping pictures and overheard their comments, which started to stress her out. She began to regret walking with Andy Bennet in such a public place. This was only their second public appearance, and she felt it wasn’t the right choice.
"Andy, those people are taking our picture. I’m worried they’ll create negative news about you and me," she whispered.
Andy glanced at her with a smile and said, "Sister-in-law, you don’t have to worry about it."
"It may not be a big deal for you, but what about me? I’m afraid my face will become a trending topic on social media. And what if the women who admire you throw salt at me?" Abigail shrugged and lowered her head, pretending to be sad.
"Hahaha, you’re so funny, sister-in-law. Stop watching Korean dramas. No one would do that to you," Andy replied, shaking his head before focusing on the road ahead as they continued toward the restaurant.
Abigail didn’t say anything but laughed.
"Well, how could I compare to your husband? I assure you, if those gold-digger women out there knew who your husband is, they would forget about me in seconds and become your husband’s die-hard fans," Andy added as he opened the restaurant door.
Abigail stifled a laugh at his words. She remained silent because he was right. If people knew that Sawyer was the ultimate owner of the Silverstone Group, everyone would start talking about him, and his face would constantly appear on social media.
She would no longer be able to walk around freely because everyone would recognize Sawyer. The thought of living like a celebrity gave Abigail a headache. She hoped that Sawyer would never reveal his identity.
"Don’t worry, sister-in-law. Your picture won’t appear online. Vincent will take care of that," Andy assured her, gesturing toward Vincent, who was behind them.
Abigail noticed Vincent was busy talking on the phone as he followed them into the VIP room. She could hear him speaking seriously to someone.
"Wow! Andy, you already ordered our lunch..." Abigail asked, impressed by the table’s array of dishes and beverages. It looked like there was enough food for five people instead of just three.
