Chapter 27: Hard For Him To Believe
"Sir? Hello, Sir...? Are you still there?" Ethan asked worriedly.
Sawyer cleared his throat before asking, "I’m still here, Ethan. Okay, so are you saying Ronan and Abigail met, but they didn’t know each other before?" This was the most crucial piece of information he needed to hear.
"Of course, they don’t know each other, sir," Ethan lightly laughed. He could sense jealousy from his big boss. Since he had worked for him, this had never happened before.
Ethan became more certain that his boss liked Abigail Snow. He was curious and wanted to meet the girl who had managed to shake his boss’s heart.
Hearing nothing from the other end, Ethan continued, "Sir, I arranged for Miss Abigail to stay at your house because her life is pitiful. You know that, right? I already told you about what happened to her Grandma..."
Sawyer said nothing but silently nodded in agreement with Ethan. Abigail’s life was indeed miserable. Her fiancé betrayed her. Her family stabbed her in the back, and she was also struggling to pay her Grandma’s hospital bills.
"And also, I told you before that I noticed you were kinda interested in Miss Abigail, so I just tried to give you an opportunity—" Before Ethan could finish, Sawyer interrupted him.
"Got it! Okay, please send me a copy of the house contract," Sawyer said before ending the call.
He wanted to see the terms Ethan and Ronan had included in the contract and how much she paid.
A foolish smile spread across his lips as he put down his phone, realizing what he was doing.
"Seriously, why do you want to know everything about her? Are you really starting to like her?"
Sawyer questioned himself, feeling puzzled by the situation. The more he tried to ignore Abigail, the more curious he became.
At the same time, a tall man with an athletic build in dark clothes knocked on Sawyer’s car window, surprising him. Hurriedly, he glanced at the sound and saw his personal bodyguard, Brody Jones.
Sawyer rolled down the window.
"What is it, Brody?" he asked.
"Sir, did something happen to your car?" Brody asked curiously. He was starting to worry about his job. For the past few days, his boss hadn’t asked him to follow or drive him, making him afraid he would be demoted to his old post.
Earlier, he had seen from the CCTV camera that his boss’s car was parked at the gate. He assumed his boss had taken a phone call before entering. However, it shocked him when he saw the new rooftop tenant getting out of his boss’s car.
After a few minutes, Brody was puzzled to see that his boss’s car hadn’t moved. He decided to check, concerned that something had happened.
"No problem," Sawyer replied while turning on the engine. But before he drove toward the gate, he glanced at Brody again. "Did you see the woman who entered the house earlier?"
"Yes, Sir. She’s Miss Abigail Snow, the new tenant on the rooftop," Brody replied.
Sawyer could only laugh inwardly. Even his bodyguard already knew about Abigail staying in his house. How could he have been clueless about it?
"I would appreciate it if she doesn’t know I own the house," Sawyer instructed, worried she might misunderstand the situation.
Brody was even more confused by this but didn’t dare ask questions. He nodded immediately, "Yes, Sir. I’ll make sure Miss Abigail doesn’t know."
"And, please tell everyone in the house to never mention my name to her or when she’s around."
"Yes, Sir. Consider it done."
After talking to Brody, Sawyer drove his car toward the gate.
Sawyer was still trying to process what had just happened. It was hard for him to believe that Abigail, the woman driving him crazy these past few days, was now staying in his house.
"Did God send Ethan to play Cupid? Why the hell would he do that without asking?" Sawyer talks to himself, starting to get annoyed with Ethan.
He remembered Ethan telling him about Abigail having a tough time finding a place to live. However, he hadn’t asked him to do anything because he didn’t want her to think he was stalking her, like what happened in their last meeting in Orange Town. She clearly thinks he stalks her.
But now? Ethan had added to his problem by playing a stupid Cupid and arranging for her to live in his house, albeit renting. If she finds out the house is his, how could he face her? How could he explain that to her?
Taking a deep sigh, Sawyer parked his car in the basement garage and entered the lift, bringing him directly to his private area’s third floor, an exclusive floor on which only a few most trusted individuals could enter.
As Sawyer walked toward his bedroom, he halted when he noticed the emergency stairway leading to the rooftop.
He was momentarily lost in thought, contemplating how to explain the situation to Abigail.
However, he realized that no acceptable excuses would make him seem innocent, which gave him a headache.
Shortly after, a buzzing sound from his pocket snapped him out of his thoughts.
He saw an email from Ethan with the subject: "House Rental Contracts."

Abigail stood on the rooftop, gazing at the distant city lights. She tried to absorb the beautiful scenery and reflect on the recent events in her life.
She never imagined her life would drastically change in just a few days.
She had been forced to call off her engagement with the man she had trusted and loved for years.
Dealing with a broken heart was not easy, especially now that she felt traumatized about trusting anyone, especially men.
It wasn’t just about her love life; her Grandma’s sudden illness had caused her deep pain. The fear of losing someone she cares for and loves so much tormented her greatly.
If something happens to her Grandma, she will lose the only person she genuinely trusts and undoubtedly loves. She will have no one left to call family.
"Oh, Grandma, please stay healthy. You are all I’ve got in this cruel world," Abigail whispered as she walked to her new house, but her phone buzzed before entering the code.
