Chapter 24 - Go To Hell!

Sorayah wandered through the palace, her feet moving aimlessly, with no specific destination in mind. The grand halls bustled with werewolf and human servants from different households, all attending to their duties, their eyes never straying toward her. She remained unseen, unnoticed, a ghost drifting through the castle.

Tears streamed silently down her cheeks, her arms wrapping around her own body in a feeble attempt at comfort. She walked until the noise of the crowd faded, replaced by the quiet hush of an isolated corridor. Only one other presence remained, a lone maid walking ahead of her, her posture stiff with purpose but Sorayah can't be bothered about her.

She exhaled sharply, biting her lip as fresh regret surged through her. If Dimitri hadn't stopped me, I would have made a terrible mistake tonight.

Her hands clenched into fists. And how dare I shout at him though? Now that bastard is going to make life a living hell for me.

She shook her head, trying to steady herself. She couldn't afford to be reckless.

"You have to stay calm, Sorayah," she muttered under her breath, her voice barely audible. "You don't even have an effective plan yet. If you can't think straight, how will you ever defeat Lupien?"

But no matter how much she willed herself to focus, his face kept flashing in her mind, Lupien Nightshade. The image alone sent fresh pain stabbing into her chest, making her tears fall harder.

"It's just a matter of time," she whispered, letting the night breeze cool her heated skin. "I will defeat him. I just have to think. I just..."

A sharp, piercing scream tore through the silence, cutting off her thoughts.

Sorayah froze.

Her heart pounded as she quickly scanned her surroundings. Where's the maid? She had been walking ahead just moments ago, yet now the corridor was empty.

Her gaze darted downward, landing on a silver tray abandoned on the floor, its contents spilled across the stone.

"That maid was dragged away. By who?"

Sorayah's hand instinctively went to the dagger Dimitri had given her. Without hesitation, she followed the trail into the dimly lit courtyard beyond.

The air grew thick with decay as she stepped forward. The courtyard looked abandoned, its once-majestic trees now overgrown and wild. Broken furniture lay scattered across the ground, coated in dust and rot.

"Help me, please!"

The desperate cry came from the right.

Sorayah sprang into action, her body moving before her mind could catch up. She turned the corner and found the maid pinned beneath a man, a looming, shadowy figure.

"Please help me!"

"Go to hell!" Sorayah murmured under her breath, lunging forward.

Her body moved with the deadly precision ingrained in her since childhood. As the human prince, she had been forced to learn martial arts, an essential skill for survival. Now, that training came to life.

The attacker clearly skilled in combat dodged her initial strike, narrowly avoiding her dagger. But his skill was nothing compared to hers. With swift, calculated movements, Sorayah struck, slamming both palms into his chest. The force sent him flying backward, his body crashing against the wooden door of the courtyard's abandoned house.

Even though Sorayah never wanted to show her martial skill in the werewolves kingdom except when it's high time, she couldn't ignore the maid who was about to be raped just before her eyes.

Taking advantage of the distraction, the maid wasted no time as she scrambled to her feet and fled into the night, leaving Sorayah alone with her fallen opponent.

As the dust settled, Sorayah's eyes finally took in the man before her.

He looked disheveled, his tattered clothes clinging to a lean but muscular frame. His dark hair was a tangled mess, and despite the fine structure of his face, there was something unsettling about him. His golden eyes glowed unnaturally in the dim light, wild and unfocused, as if he had long since lost his sanity.

Sorayah hesitated. He's a lunatic, she thought, her grip on the dagger tightening. She had been ready to kill him, but now... she wasn't so sure.

The man suddenly pushed himself up with an enraged growl, drawing a sword from his waist.

Sorayah's eyes narrowed. Even in his madness, he's still a trained fighter.

He lunged at her.

Sorayah dodged effortlessly, twisting her body with lethal grace. Using his own momentum against him, she struck again, this time with enough force to send him flying. His back slammed into the stone wall so hard that he coughed up a mouthful of blood which shows that his body was weak even though he knows martial arts.

His golden eyes burned with fury as he staggered back to his feet.

"How dare you, lowly human!" he snarled, his voice laced with venom.

His body began to shift. His nails elongated into razor-sharp claws, his fangs grew longer, and dark fur sprouted across his skin. His transformation was fast, seamless and deadly.

Sorayah barely had time to react before he lunged again, his claws aiming straight for her throat.

This time, she wasn't fast enough.

With inhuman speed, he pinned her to the ground, her back slamming against the hard earth with a sickening force. A sharp pain shot through her body, but she barely had time to register it.

"How dare you interrupt my fun!" he bellowed, his voice guttural, monstrous.

His claws dug into her wrists, pinning them above her head like nails driven into a cross. His fangs hovered mere inches from her face, his breath hot and rancid against her skin.

Sorayah struggled, twisting beneath him, but his strength was overwhelming now that he was in his werewolf form.

But then...

A sudden, powerful force struck the werewolf, sending him flying off her. His body crashed into the ground with a sickening thud, his transformation vanishing as he lost consciousness in an instant.

Sorayah gasped, her chest heaving as she pushed herself upright.

She turned her head sharply, trying to see who had intervened. But all she could make out were two glowing red eyes staring at her from the darkness, piercing, unblinking. Fangs gleamed beneath the faint moonlight.
