Chapter 48 - 043: Feeling So Wronged, Absolutely Unbearable! (First Update)
"I'll take you somewhere," Tong Airui tilted his head and looked at Yi Luowa.
Yi Luowa pointed at him and then at herself, "Just the two of us like this—where do you want to go?"
"The police station!" Tong Airui stood up. "You're driving. Just the two of us are going."
"I'm not getting in the same car with you!" Yi Luowa stubbornly stared at Tong Airui. This guy—although their first meeting hadn't been ideal—had helped her so much; she could never bring herself to harm him.
"I crawled out from a pile of dead bodies; my life is tough!" Tong Airui curled his lips slightly. "I'm ordering you now, as your master, to drive me to the police station immediately!"
Yi Luowa pursed her lips and stretched out her hand to ask him for the keys.
Tong Airui handed the car keys to her. The two moved slowly to the parking lot, and a moment later, a white RV rolled out.
Tong Airui lay in the back and made two phone calls. By the time they arrived at the police station, a policeman directly led them both into an interrogation room.
Through the one-way mirror, Yi Luowa glanced at the flashy woman sitting inside. "Master, I bet you like this type!"
Tong Airui shot her a condescending look. "Don't talk! Listen to what she has to say."
The little fox sat on the interrogation chair, timidly glancing at the two female officers sitting across the interrogation table.
"Speaking up now counts as credit. But if people point the finger at you later, your punishment will only worsen. Have you thought it through?" The older female officer spoke coldly.
The little fox frowned deeply, hesitating for a long time before asking, "Did that old woman die?"
The female officer shot her a chilly glance. "No, but you and Bai Bowen's actions have already constituted a crime. Apart from the charge of intentional harm, Xi Meichen has also accused you and Bai Bowen of other criminal activities. I'm giving you a chance now; do you understand?"
"All I did was hit her with a vase! I didn't do anything else!" The little fox pouted. "If she dares to frame me, I'll go sue her!"
"Stubborn until the end, huh? Bai Bowen has already confessed, and you're the only one playing tough here. Fine, suit yourself!" The female officer stood up and opened the door to leave.
The little fox suddenly panicked. "I'll report! I'll confess!"
The female officer sat back down. "Spill it."
"That old woman—Xi Meichen—she orchestrated seventeen car accidents over nineteen years, killing several of her family members. Besides insurance fraud, her primary goal was to seize control of the Yi family fortune!"
Standing behind the one-way mirror, Yi Luowa's body suddenly wobbled. If this was the truth, then Xi Meichen must be one vicious woman!
Tong Airui reached out to steady her. "Hold on!"
Yi Luowa pressed her lips tightly, staring at the woman in the interrogation room. She desperately needed answers now. If Xi Meichen truly orchestrated the accidents, hadn't she carried the blame as a "sweeping star" all these years completely unjustly?
"I heard it from my first man that the Yi family has had a total of eighteen car accidents—seventeen of which were deliberate. Those seventeen accidents were all carried out under Xi Meichen's orders."
The female officer fixed an intense stare on the little fox. "Where's your first man now?"
The little fox sniffled, "He's dead... sob sob."
The older female officer pushed the door open and walked out. Tong Airui turned to look at the door to their room, and the female officer walked in with a smile.
Tong Airui greeted her with a grin. "Aunt Xixi."
"You rascal, always popping up out of nowhere!" Ning Mingxi laughed, patting Tong Airui on the shoulder. "When did you get back? Why didn't you go home?"
"Just got back. With the parade coming up, I've been really busy. My older brother's coming back tomorrow; we'll go home together."
Ning Mingxi turned to glance at Yi Luowa. "Oh, this young lady is quite beautiful! Whose family is she from?"
Yi Luowa pointed at Tong Airui. "I'm his servant!"
Ning Mingxi raised her eyebrows at Tong Airui.
Tong Airui nodded, tacitly acknowledging. "Aunt Xixi, has Bai Bowen still not spoken?"
"Not yet. Regarding the Yi family's car accidents, Xi Meichen accuses Bai Bowen of orchestrating them, while Luo Xiaotong claims it was Xi Meichen. The key witness is dead. I'll try to get Bai Bowen to open up."
Tong Airui leaned close to Ning Mingxi's ear, whispering a few words.
Ning Mingxi blinked. "Alright, I'll try that later."
Ning Mingxi left quickly and returned ten minutes later holding a file. "Let's go; we're heading to the hospital."
The three of them left the room. Tong Airui walked as normally as possible to prevent Ning Mingxi from noticing anything amiss.
At the hospital, Tong Airui and Yi Luowa remained outside the ward, while Ning Mingxi greeted the two policemen stationed there and walked in.
A moment later, hysterical shouts erupted from inside. Xi Meichen was screaming, "Bai Bowen, you beast! Pushing everything onto me—you won't die well! Officer Ning, I have evidence! Send someone to Citibank; there's a USB drive in my safety deposit box—it proves those seventeen car accidents. At most, I'm just an accomplice..."
The USB drive was quickly retrieved. The three of them sat in the RV and listened to its contents. Yi Luowa trembled violently like a leaf in the wind.
Tong Airui saw her ashen face and quickly grabbed her hand. "Cry it out—it'll make you feel better."
Yi Luowa threw herself into Tong Airui's arms and burst into tears. "Why do they hurt others and then use me as a scapegoat? All these years, I've borne the stigma as a 'sweeping star'—it's not fair! I... I... sob sob..."
Tong Airui gently consoled her. "I know you feel aggrieved. Cry it out! Let out all the grievances you've held onto over these years."
Ning Mingxi kept winking at Tong Airui. "Rui'er, what's going on?"
Tong Airui forced a smile. "Aunt Xixi, she's Xi Meichen's adopted daughter."
Ning Mingxi shook her head in exasperation. "These people are something else—committing so many vile acts and using an innocent girl as their scapegoat. Child, don't cry anymore. Aunt will clear your name."
"Thank you," Yi Luowa whispered tearfully, glancing at Ning Mingxi.
