Chapter 1349: The last battle (12)

Benedict’s mana took the shape of a halberd and solidified. His armor formed slower than Gwen’s since the brain crystal was weaker, but the mana nonetheless enveloped him and took the shape of an armor.

“Allan, you’re our disruptor. Use your lightning brain crystal power to keep them on their toes. Your bone control gives you options—create plates, weapons, or whatever you need. The electric aura will injure anyone who gets close, so focus on keeping pressure and disrupting their formation.”

Allan’s spine straightened as bone spikes erupted through his skin, forming a protective cage around his torso.

Electricity danced between them, making a field that would electrocute anyone who came within striking distance. He also created some spikes, through which arcs of electricity flashed. He just needed to make them longer to increase the reach of his aura, but he still had to be careful not to injure his comrades.

Amber focused on the remaining two fighters. “Floyd, Martha, you’re our mid-range fighters.”

Floyd’s hands darkened with a purplish hue. He was allowing the poison to spread throughout his body. A mana construct formed behind him, taking the shape of a whip-like tail, which quickly got filled by the poison.

“Floyd, your poison and your tail give you reach, but it will be your energy negation that will play the most important role—use it to drain their speed and slow down their fastest fighters. You can handle two at once, so choose your targets well.”

Martha knelt down and placed her palm on the ground. Small plants emerged from the concrete and dirt. Her twitching fingers caused the plants to turn sickly purple.

“Martha, make a perimeter with your plants. Strengthen our position and catch anyone who breaches our defense line. Attack opportunistically, but avoid overlapping with Floyd’s targets. Imbue everything with poison—make them pay for every step they take without our permission.”

Martha nodded; deadly plants sprouted, forming a spreading forest that surrounded the group and separated them from the rest of the fighters.

“What powers do you think the Vindicators have?” Benedict asked, his mana halberd now fully formed and humming with unprecedented power. Essence flow was coursing through him, so he was already at full mana capacity, and so were the others.

“The clones said they should have at least four elemental powers, but they surely had their birth brain crystal power, and maybe something more if they got other serums before the last one,” Amber said.

“Aaron and Mickey will support the clones against the regular forces. The rest of us will focus on the Vindicators. Rick, Mira, Emily, and I will join you.”

Benedict flexed his arm, watching as his mana armor rippled and thickened. His eyes widened.

“This is incredible. Essence Flow from the Chimaeric Demons is increasing my mana regeneration a thousandfold. I can keep it up for as long as I want, and I can harden it up to the limit of my mana capacity.”

Not having to conserve mana was weird, but even weirder was the fact that they could use all their mana for one power. It would get back to full capacity in seconds, anyway.

Their powers had never been stronger. The armor was new for Benedict, but the halberd… Its mana was so much that it felt tyrannical.

Gwen brought her fists together.

“Same here. I’ve never felt this powerful. My armor is at its maximum density, my strength has never been higher, and any damage I sustain will heal instantly.”

“Don’t get cocky,” Amber said. “The Vindicators have multiple powers and years of combat experience. Stay focused, stick to the plan, and support each other.”

Aaron and Mickey moved first. Aaron extended his hands, palms down, towards the battlefield.

Slime kept pouring from his skin in torrents, far more than should have been possible. The substance pooled on the ground before beginning to shape itself, splitting and dividing into hundreds of amorphous forms.

Each blob developed primitive features—pseudopods for movement, basic sensory organs to detect threats, and maw-like openings filled with acids.

“Go,” Aaron said, and the slimes surged forward.

Beside him, Mickey had become a living hive. His skin split in dozens of places as insects poured out—constructs of mana and chitin, armored and vicious.

They varied in size from tiny flesh-eating swarms to larger beetle-like creatures with mandibles that could shear through metal.

“Find the blackguards,” Mickey said, and the insect horde took flight, a dark cloud that blotted out the lights of the burning facility.

“Holy shit,” Floyd said, watching as the bugs and slimes engulfed the first line of blackguards. Screams rang as the creatures overwhelmed their targets, dissolving armor and flesh or stripping it away.

“That is our cue,” Mira said. “Move out!”

The team burst ahead, breaking out into their designated groups. Gwen, Benedict, and Allan took the lead, charging directly at the Vindicators. Floyd and Martha trailed some distance. Rick, Amber, Mira, and Emily scattered out.

Seeing them, one of the Vindicators moved to meet them. He was an enormous man, his body covered in stone armor.

Fire moved across his arms, and with every stride he made, the ground shook.

“Earth and the other elements,” Gwen said.

She moved like a bullet, thanks to her increased strength. The Vindicator tried to stop her by raising a stone wall from the ground.

But Gwen kept going, her mana armor glowing bright blue as she smashed through the stone wall, sending chunks of rock flying in all directions.

She turned on her front foot and threw her whole body into a powerful right hook, slamming her armored fist into the man’s chest with so much force that it made a shockwave.

The blow should have broken his ribs, but his stone armor was still unscathed. He counterattacked with a burst of fire, but Gwen’s armor dispersed the heat.

Behind her, Benedict moved his Mana Halberd, sweeping in a lethal arc. The blade hooked on the side of the Vindicator. It bit deep, drawing blood, but the man had regenerative powers too; the wound closed right away.

Allan entered the chaos, lightning arcing from his fingers, striking the Vindicator. The power momentarily interfered with the man’s Mana flow, allowing Benedict a target for another attack. This time he pinned the man in place by driving the halberd’s point through his shoulder.

I’m Reworking the book. It should take 7 months to end it.
