Chapter 65: Clash in the Cathedral

A huge door separated the outside from the inside, but this one was wide open, as if to invite the four devils in.

And so they did.

Slowly, they approached the entrance.

Despite their power and vision, they could see nothing but darkness.

But that did not stop them from entering.

With a slow step, full of arrogance and curiosity, the four crossed the threshold, like predators tasting the enemy terrain before the assault.

"Well, this is all very theatrical. I hope it can give us a battle just as epic as this structure."

The voice of one of the four resounded all around like an echo.

The tone was sarcastic, but underneath there was a tremor of excitement.

Once inside, light took the place of darkness and a huge hall with a central throne was made visible.

The throne was majestic, made of bones fused and polished together. The backrest was high, formed by a column of vertebrae ending in a crown of intertwined horns.

In the center of the throne, a human being sat comfortably. The back of his hand supported his head, while his elbow sank into the armrest.

A vision of supremacy and absolute power.

"Welcome to my world." He said as he rose from his throne. Then, with a wave of his hand, several columns rose from the bony ground of the cathedral.

Looking closer, those were not columns.

They were skeletal statues.

Statues of skeletal giants.

The proportions were huge, and every detail was perfectly shaped. Sharp-toothed skulls, arms as long as entire buildings, and eyes that flickered with bluish light.

"I read about these creatures in the academy." Jeremy calmly explained, moving forward a few steps. "They belong to an incredibly vast and powerful world of absurd magnitude. The power of these beings is many times more powerful than that of a human being at the same level.

And I was looking forward to experiencing something different.

You know, I only got this incredible power a few days ago. It almost seems like I skipped the basics."

Clapping their hands, the four giants came to life.

"I am not a mere necromancer. I am the Bone Creator."

The air trembled upon hearing those simple statements.

The giants made furious sounds in response.

Despite their bony appearance, they were not mere huge constructs. They were real titans.

Their every movement made the floor creak, as if the world itself was aware of their presence.

"Oh? So that’s what you were relying on? On the Titans?"

The devil’s answer was simple; he did not take this creation seriously at all.

He knew the giants the boy was talking about, the Titans, and they were nothing extraordinary.

Their strength was undoubtedly frightening, but that was all it was.

They were lacking on everything else.

"Well then-" said Jeremy as he returned to his seat. "Let the first Round begin. Titans versus devils."

The devils looked at each other, amused.

Then, a laugh escaped one of them.

"Didn’t you say you would face us alone? What is this, fear? Why are you letting us face these useless bones?"

Before Jeremy could answer, his Titans charged at the devils.

"I told you, I want to experience a few things before I get even stronger."

At this point, the devils had no way to respond.

They had been almost taken aback by the giants’ absurd speed. They had not expected this at all.

Titans were known for strength, not speed.

But these giant bones had no such limitation.

If they had been simple Rank EX devils, they would have had no way to win. Of course, they would not have been defeated, but victory would have been impossible.

But now they were not just simple devils.

Every fiber of their being and power, with the exception of their concept and abilities, had changed.

Now they had become simply Malrik’slaves. Nothing more, nothing less.

However, one thing was clear.

Their power had undergone a glorious power up.

Apart from the initial astonishment due to the incredible movements of the bone giants, the four reacted very quickly.

In a short time, they had the Titans cornered. Their huge form was an easy target for the agile devils.

"Is that all?" The voice of one of the devils echoed in the hall, rumbling through the walls. Then, throwing a thunderous fist toward the skull of the Titan he was facing, he added.

"We’ll play with you some more, don’t worry. After all, you forced us to use this cursed ability. We cannot allow you to leave this world easily."

The sound of the impact made the hall tremble. The giant’s skull creaked, but did not give way.

"What if we capture him?" another devil’s voice echoed his friend’s discourse. "Malrik could reward us. This human is strong, he might be worth a lot. Maybe he might even let us go!"

The faces of the other three devils lit up.

Their expressions, previously furious and somber, were now a mixture of hope and excitement.

None of them were taking the battle against the Titans seriously.

In their view, these walking bones were not worth their effort.

But then, just at the moment when the devils were distracted thinking about the capture of the human and their freedom, a shocking thing happened.

"Taken-"

BOOM-

A deafening explosion rumbled through the hall.

The floor shattered, a cloud of dust blurred the view, bones flew everywhere.

"You are right, enough talk. It’s time for Round 2!"

Jeremy’s voice fell like a hammer on the devils.

The Titans coordinated their attacks to deliver a destructive punch against the devils, who flew away like comets in the sky.

Moments later, the dust cloud settled.

What emerged were devils with tattered robes and blood everywhere.

"Shit-" Rising from the ground, one of the devils coughed up a mouthful of blood. "What happened?"

"We were too excited. We have to pay attention. We can no longer afford negligence. This is not a burden on our reputation-"

"Who cares about reputation," The scream of the smallest devil in the quartet resounded all around. "I want to tear that human apart. I can’t stand to be humiliated like this."

Meanwhile, Jeremy still sat there, a small triumphant smile on his face.

His idea had worked, as it should.

The devils did not notice, but during their battle, the Titans underwent a small mutation.

A small inner tube, an organ capable of building up pressure and releasing it at will with attacks.

This feature was not typical of Titans, but of Ravagerans, brutal-looking warriors capable of channeling explosive power into their physical attacks.

He had read about them all the time in the academy, and like the Titans, he had never seen them. But he didn’t need to.

Since she had removed the blindfold, he had removed all limitations.

His golden eyes simplified creation, making the impossible possible.

Through it all, the Titans stood still, like soldiers awaiting orders.

Despite being beaten during their previous fight, these ones did not have a single bone out of place.

This was normal. They stood surrounded by bones. They were literally immortal.

However, Jeremy could not create undead at will. Otherwise, there would have been no problem dealing with any threat.

The creation of a skeleton involved not only bones, but also the presence of Core and essence of law.

This came directly from its golden eyes.

He had no unlimited uses for such power.

Creation was, after all, a role that belonged only to truly powerful creatures.

And Jeremy, a mere Rank S, could not hope to match such beings.

But, in his defense, he could create almost unlimited regular undead, such as those outside the Cathedral, the rats, and those fighting devils outside the domain.
