Chapter 209: Chapter 209: School Forum
He paused, locking eyes with her.
"I want to be Aurora’s boyfriend."
Gasps spread through the classroom like wildfire.
"I’m following her," he continued, his voice steady, "because I want to be by her side. And if she lets me, I’ll spend the rest of my life with her."
Diana’s jaw dropped.
"And for the record," Spencer went on, "you were always just a friend to me. I never flirted with you. Never touched you. I never once led you on."
Diana’s face twisted. "You—You’re lying! We were close!"
"Close?" Spencer chuckled bitterly.
"Diana, don’t push it. Keep playing this game and I won’t hesitate to expose your little secret."
Silence.
Her face drained of color. "Y-You wouldn’t."
Spencer smiled coldly. "Try me."
Aurora blinked, surprised. Secret? What was he talking about?
"Oh—and one more thing," Spencer added lightly, turning to the class.
"Aurora isn’t just some random girl. She’s my childhood sweetheart."
Another wave of murmurs rolled through the class.
Aurora’s mouth dropped open slightly. She turned to him, whispering, "What are you—"
But Spencer kept his gaze on Diana.
"You remember Rosehill Avenue?" he asked, naming a small neighborhood. "Check the records. You’ll find both our names there." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Diana’s mouth opened, but no words came out.
Aurora stared at Spencer. Rosehill Avenue? That was where she’d lived as a kid... but she had no memory of meeting Spencer back then. Her eyes narrowed.
Is he lying? Did he do a background check on me?
"Liar!" Diana snapped, but her voice lacked confidence now. "He’s lying! There’s no way!"
Spencer didn’t even flinch. "Go ahead. Do your research."
Before Diana could recover, the classroom door opened.
Miss Carter walked in, clutching her tablet and her coffee mug. She looked around, frowning at the tense air.
"What’s all the noise?" she asked, gaze sweeping the room. "Back to your seats, everyone!"
Spencer sat back down beside Aurora, calm as ever. She leaned in, whispering, "You’re way too good at lying."
Spencer didn’t respond immediately. He just looked at her softly, sadly.
"I wasn’t lying," he said quietly.
Aurora blinked, suddenly unsure. "Wait. What?"
But he looked away before she could press further.
Miss Carter cleared her throat, tapping on the board. "Now, let’s begin. Page 82 of your textbook, everyone."
The class shifted focus, flipping pages, though several were still sneaking glances at Spencer and Aurora.
Halfway through the lecture, Miss Carter paused. Her eyes flicked to a girl sitting near the window.
"Caroline," she said, folding her arms.
Caroline jerked upright. "Yes, ma’am?"
"Stand up."
Caroline did, squirming.
"I heard you’ve been spreading rumors," Miss Carter said calmly but firmly. "Specifically, about Aurora."
The class froze. All eyes shot to Caroline and Aurora.
Caroline looked around nervously, then tried to smile. "It—it wasn’t a big deal. I just said what I know."
Miss Carter’s tone sharpened. "And what exactly did you hear?"
"Um... during our childhood years, she was sick many times... You know...and I suspect that she had tuberculosis, so I just cautioned everyone to be careful! I didn’t mean to slander her."
Miss Carter stared at Caroline for a long moment. Then, with a sigh, she said calmly,
"That kind of speculation is irresponsible. Even if you didn’t mean harm, words like that spread fast and can ruin someone’s reputation."
Caroline looked down, twisting her fingers.
"But," Miss Carter added, "since you claim you didn’t mean it maliciously, I’ll let it go with a warning. Be more careful in the future."
The class shifted uncomfortably. Caroline nodded quickly and sat down.
Aurora raised a brow but said nothing.
Mia, who was sitting a seat away from her, leaned over with a frown. "What the heck? That’s it? Not even detention?"
Aurora shrugged, a small smile curling her lips. "Maybe it’s because Caroline’s parents is on the school board."
"Ugh. That’s so unfair," Mia muttered, glancing over at Caroline, who was smirking like she’d just won a prize.
"She literally tried to start a rumor about you having tuberculosis."
Aurora laughed under her breath. "It’s fine."
Mia blinked. "You’re not mad?"
"Oh, I am," Aurora said smoothly, her fingers tapping across her phone screen beneath the desk. "But I’m also patient."
Mia stared at her. "What are you doing?"
Aurora didn’t answer, too focused on uploading several well-curated screenshots and pictures to the school forum.
They showed Caroline cuddled up with Zane in various compromising poses, followed by a detailed caption:
Caroline, a student in Class 2A, who loves slandering others for fun, slept with her best friend Mandy’s boyfriend, Zane, behind her back. All while smiling on her face. Who’s the real sick one here?
Satisfied, Aurora tapped "post" and slipped her phone into her pocket just as Miss Carter dismissed the class.
"Alright, that’s it for today. I expect your essays by Monday," Miss Carter called as students began packing up.
Aurora was still zipping up her bag when Caroline sauntered over, that same smug look plastered on her face.
"Well, Aurora," she said sweetly, "tough day, huh?"
Aurora didn’t bother looking up. "If you say so."
Caroline folded her arms.
"I just wanted to let you know that even though you tried to make me look bad, I didn’t get punished. Not even a mark on my record."
Aurora glanced at her, expression blank. "And?"
"So how does it feel?" Caroline asked with a mock pout. "Losing even after complaining?"
Aurora rolled her eyes. "You really shouldn’t get too smug."
Caroline leaned in slightly, voice dripping with mockery. "Why not? You gonna write a sad poem about it?"
Before Aurora could answer, a loud gasp echoed from the other side of the room.
A girl named Jenna had her phone in her hand and her eyes wide.
"Guys! Check the forum! Right now!"
Students scrambled for their phones. Caroline froze, her smile faltering. She turned to Aurora with a smug smile and said,
"Maybe someone had posted your medical history, and they are shocked now by how many infections you are carrying around."
