Chapter 98 - 102: Crisis Averted

The night was quiet.

The wind was especially cold and bleak tonight.

The palace was shrouded in darkness, with only a faint glow coming from the corridor lanterns.

Just a minute before Die pushed open the door to the side chamber...

Inside the sleeping quarters—

Chen Mo, unable to fall asleep, simply flipped over and once again pinned Queen Medusa beneath him.

He kissed her already slightly swollen red lips.

Queen Medusa wrapped her arms around Chen Mo's neck.

Just as Chen Mo's hand began stroking the smooth skin on her back—

Creak...

The door suddenly opened.

Die's voice rang out in the darkness.

"Chen Mo, are you asleep?"

The moment her voice echoed—

On the bed, both Chen Mo and Queen Medusa's pupils contracted, their expressions changing drastically.

The usually calm and composed Queen Medusa was now clearly flustered.

Chen Mo broke into a cold sweat.

If Die were to see him pinning her most beloved sister beneath him, kissing her passionately...

There'd be no doubt—he'd be facing her blade for sure.

"Your Majesty, hit me!"

In a moment of desperation, Chen Mo whispered the idea.

Queen Medusa instantly caught on.

She surged her Dou Qi and blasted Chen Mo off the bed.

Then, without hesitation, she leapt down and began raining punches on his head like a storm.

The commotion, naturally, caught Die's attention.

When she lit the candle—

She saw her sister straddling Chen Mo, beating him senseless.

"Big sis, stop!"

Die's expression changed immediately. Furious, she rushed forward and pulled Queen Medusa off him.

Then she glared at her and scolded, "Sister, how could you? Even if you don't agree with me being with him, you can't just beat him like this!"

Die assumed her sister was furious about the conversation they'd had earlier about her feelings for Chen Mo—and had come to take it out on him.

Thankfully, she arrived just in time. If anything worse had happened... Die didn't even want to imagine the consequences.

After scolding her sister, Die quickly helped Chen Mo up, gently checking him over with concern, "Chen Mo, are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?"

"Hiss... That hurts..."

Chen Mo winced in pain, groaning slightly.

Now was the time to act like he was seriously hurt. Otherwise, Die might start putting the pieces together.

Queen Medusa played along and coldly warned him, "If I ever catch you being all lovey-dovey with my little sister again, I'll cripple you."

"Sister, that's too much..." Die bit her red lip, her voice trembling.

Chen Mo shivered internally. He could tell—the Queen had used this moment to speak her true feelings.

Saying it in front of Die only made it all the more terrifying.

He backed down fast.

But backing down didn't mean giving up.

Chen Mo was a man who danced on the edge of a cliff.

He was the embodiment of "playing with fire."

He believed that as long as he managed his time right, everything would work out.

"Hmph. I'm too much?" Queen Medusa narrowed her eyes and glared at Die. "It's the middle of the night, and instead of being in your own room, you sneak into his—what were you trying to do, hmm?"

"I... I just wanted to talk to Chen Mo..." Die stammered, clearly caught off guard by the Queen's fierce counterattack. After all, she had snuck out.

Chen Mo was a little stunned.

A perfect reversal—making it seem like Die was the one in the wrong.

He had to hand it to her. Brilliant.

"What do you mean 'just talk'?"

Clearly, Queen Medusa wasn't planning to let it go.

"I... I just wanted to have a chat," Die mumbled, half-truth, half-lie.

"A chat? Couldn't that wait until morning? You had to sneak over in the middle of the night?" Queen Medusa sneered.

Chen Mo couldn't take it anymore and subtly signaled her with his eyes to let it go.

If Die sensed something was off, they'd be finished.

Queen Medusa noticed and narrowed her phoenix eyes. "You. Come with me."

Without giving Die a chance to argue, she grabbed her and dragged her out of the chamber.

Die pouted but followed her sister reluctantly.

As the doors shut behind them...

Chen Mo slumped to the floor, his robes soaked in cold sweat.

Damn, that was intense.

After sending Die off—

Queen Medusa let out a deep breath. Her back was drenched in sweat.

She quickly turned away and re-tied the sash of her chest wrap, which had come loose during the chaos.

If Die had looked a little more carefully earlier, she might have noticed the wrap had already slipped down slightly.

"Scoundrel..."

As Chen Mo's face flashed through her mind, Queen Medusa bit her lip in frustration.

Truly shameless.

But then, the blush on her face quickly faded, replaced by a chilling coldness. Sitting regally on her throne, she coldly ordered:

"Yue Nu."

Moments later, the chamber doors opened and Yue Nu entered.

"Do you realize your mistake?" Queen Medusa asked, looking down at her coldly.

"???"

Yue Nu blinked. "Please enlighten me, Your Majesty."

"How were you patrolling tonight? Someone snuck into my bedchamber and you didn't notice?"

The Queen's chamber was breached?!

Upon hearing this, cold sweat instantly formed on Yue Nu's forehead as she dropped to her knees. "Your subordinate was careless. I beg Your Majesty for forgiveness."

"Hmph." Queen Medusa scoffed. "You've served me for years, so I'll let it go—for now. But I have a task for you."

"Your Majesty need only give the order. Yue Nu will carry it out even at the cost of her life."

"It's not that serious," Queen Medusa replied. "Starting tomorrow, keep a close eye on Chen Mo. If he meets with my sister again, report to me immediately."

"Yes, understood."

The Next Morning

Chen Mo went to find Queen Medusa, trying to get a sense of her schedule.

"Is Her Majesty in?" he asked Yue Nu.

"Her Majesty has gone to the council hall," Yue Nu replied—though her gaze lingered on Chen Mo a little too long.

"Is there something on my face?"

Chen Mo noticed the odd look and asked.

Yue Nu shook her head.

Chen Mo walked off.

After killing some time in the side chamber for an hour—

He went to see Die.

Perfect. As expected, Queen Medusa was busy during the day.

His time management plan might actually work.

After passing through several long corridors and taking a few turns, Chen Mo finally reached Die's residence.

But after last night's near disaster...

Chen Mo had learned his lesson.

He immediately summoned Mo Yan and had her hide in a corner. If she saw Queen Medusa approaching, she was to alert him immediately.

Only then did Chen Mo dare enter Die's quarters.

"Your Majesty was right—Chen Mo really did go to see the Princess!"

From a shadowed corner—

Yue Nu watched it all unfold and quickly went to report to the Queen.

Inside Die's bedchamber, the layout wasn't much different from Queen Medusa's. Even the bed in the inner room was identical.

The only real differences were that Die's quarters lacked a throne, and the space was slightly smaller.
