Chapter 114: Chapter 114

While the Alliance and the Cults are making their own plans for the upcoming crisis, Aaron was making his own set of plans to deal with that.

He was one of the hundred who knew about this fact. If not for the leak, the hundred would have been the only ones who would have known about this upcoming crisis.

When will this crisis erupt? He has no idea, as he clearly remembers that there was no mention of that in the notification.

Though that was the case, Aaron knew that it would be sooner rather than later.

The notification told him that the planet would be upgraded. So, at the beginning, he didn’t bother much about that, not until after the first-year tournament.

Till then, he was busy improving his level and attributes. Nothing else mattered much. Only after entering the Undead Ruins did he understand that without proper knowledge, he would be hindered.

Only then did he start reading more than usual, and it was when he came to learn about the upcoming crisis.

The planet’s upgrade would not be a calm event. There would be a lot of disruptions.

Long ago, the world didn’t have any magic. If it did, it was so minuscule that no one felt it. Though there were stories that were widely spread about magic and magical creatures, there was no proof about their existence at that time, not until the Age of Magic.

It was the period when Magic started to get infused into this world, and everything changed.

It was said that Magic brought great things that were once believed to be impossible, but this didn’t come freely. The world paid a price for that to happen.

It was said that the tectonic plates shifted a lot at the beginning.

Plants and Animals mutated first before humans. This left humans vulnerable to mutated creatures. Later, humans got Classes, which made it easy for humans to re-establish themselves, but now they are not the top of the food chain.

Even back in the old world, though humans were not the strongest creatures, humans had weapons, a lot of them. With their help, they could easily beat any creature in the world. That made humans be at the top of the food chain, but that is not the scenario after Magic appeared.

Sure, humans created a lot of weapons as they did back then, using Magic as the base, but that was not enough to make them the top predators of the world.

Though there are five human "gods" in existence, they were just a deterrent for these predators from acting nilly-willy. Nothing more than that.

This was because, if they fought each other, there would be only mutual destruction without any benefits. They are all now at the top of the world, what’s there to fight for?

There was no reason to fight. There are no profits in doing so.

This scenario would change now. When the world upgrades, those top predators would have a reason to act, as new resources would appear, resources that would be better than what they have now.

This gives them a reason to act, which would lead to a lot of collateral.

Aaron understood this fact. He didn’t want that either he nor his family would end up being collateral.

---

After a month of being away from the dungeons, Aaron returned to the dungeons. He learned as much as he could in the month, but he knew that Rank is what decides whether one can have choices in this world and wouldn’t become collateral.

So, though he knew he needed to learn as much knowledge as he could, giving up on levelling up is not the way to do it.

Sure, he still has a lot of FSPs on his panel, but the academy is the only place where he can access so many dungeons this easily. Once he leaves the academy, he wouldn’t find so many dungeons placed near each other anywhere else.

Moreover, the decision to return to diving had to do with the announcement that came on the previous day.

An Inter-Academy tournament will be held in four months.

In this tournament, students from every academy in the world would be participating. So, the competition is going to be fierce.

There are two reasons why the competition is going to be fierce. First, the students who do well in the tournament would be rewarded a lot by the alliance.

Second, this tournament decides which academy is at the top and which is at the bottom. So, the better the rank of the academy, the better the academy would reward the participating students.

The reason why the alliance gives the rewards can be easily understood, but the reason why the academy does is because the better their students perform, the more famous they become and that means there would be more resource allocation from the alliance.

Also, top talents that would come out next year would join, which would make it that much easier for the academy to improve its reputation as an elite academy and spread its fame.

It’s twice the reward for a single work. So, everyone participating would give their all in this tournament.

Though this tournament was open only to first-year students, winning the tournament would not be an easy thing. Everyone who participates would be a first-year student, and that means everyone has a chance of winning.

The reason why only first-year students were allowed was that they would be the only ones who wouldn’t have had any fortuitous encounters. They started a little while back, and the chances of them happening upon some fortuitous encounters are almost nil, as they would have yet to step into the real world.

Their fighting experience only comes from the time they spent in the dungeons levelling up, not from spending time outside. So, they couldn’t have gained anything significant in their journey.

Though Luck was important, the alliance knew enough not to depend totally on it, and this was also a way for them to show how insignificant they were in the grand scheme of things.

---

Aaron doesn’t know all these things, but he knew that the tournament winners would get a lot of rewards both from the Alliance and their academy as well.

So, the only thing that was rotating in his mind was how to reach the top rank in the tournament, as being the top would yield the best rewards. Even the worst rewards from a tournament would be better than any top reward from the other tournament held inside the academies.

This was something he can’t miss out on, no matter what.
