Chapter 172: Chapter 172

The group of ten soon ventured inside to see what this place was about, and what made the cult create a lot of distractions for them, so that the alliance may not find out about the group’s expedition.

When they appeared, they knew they were at the entrance. This was because, around them, there were three walls, two to be exact and a pathway extending in two directions, to be exact, but one of the directions was blocked by the collapse, leaving only a single direction to move.

In that open direction, they saw a huge door, blocking anyone from entering and seeing whatever was behind it.

"Okay, we have decided to venture in, but how are we going to open this?" one of the group who voted against exploring the area asked the question.

Though his heart wanted to venture in and seize whatever treasures lay inside to improve himself and stop being a dog to the cult, he knows how difficult that can be, especially when there are others.

If one of them wants to betray the group and inform the leader or the cult, they would definitely be in trouble. This was not just in his mind, but the other three as well. Though they were hoping that they would enter and seize treasures, voting against the entry was for safety purposes.

It was also the reason why they let the two women vote when the votes were tied. Luckily, those two women voted to check the area. This worked all in favour of those four.

This way, if something bad happens, they can blame others, and if there were any gains, they would split among all or even eliminate others and get the treasures for themselves to be safe.

The fewer the survivors are, the better their chances at survival.

The orders were precise: find the anomaly, don’t explore or try to find out more about that. By exploring more, they are defying the orders from their superiors.

In the cult, such a decision would end up one in a ditch.

The orders from the higher-ups have to be treated as words of God. Any choice that goes against it would leave one hoping for a quick death in many cases.

"Did you really think whatever treasure that we are looking for would be lying in the open?" one of the four who wanted to check the area scoffed at the man who made the remark about the door.

"We need to check how to open the door and get the treasures behind it, not how to curse at each other. Now, who knows how to read the writings?"

"I do", one spoke and walked towards the door, while the other kept a considerable distance from the door.

They have seen many such things in their life, and where there is treasure, there would be a trap. Without knowing what the trap is or where the trap is, they didn’t want to be too close if the door was a trap.

Also, at the same time, they made sure they were not far away from the one who was trying to open the door. If they pull back too much, there is a high chance that the one who can possibly open the door would refuse to do so.

So, they maintained their positions and postures in a way such that if a trap was triggered, they could possibly run away from the site.

The one who was assigned to open the door was pissed at this. He knew what they were doing, but his greed for seizing the treasures inside was more than the anger against them.

So, he checked everything for more than fifteen minutes before he opened the doors.

"See, it was as simple as that. Since you didn’t trust me, don’t dare to ask me for favours in the future", the man cursed out loudly as he stepped in.

With no traps triggered, the others were relieved and they started to apologise for their behaviour, promising that if there are multiple resources, he can select first.

After appeasing him a little, they started to move forward. The reason they tried to appease him was simple. If there are more doors like that, they would need him. Without him, they would gain nothing.

So, giving away the first choice was a better solution at the moment.

---

Soon, the group came on to a lot of rooms. Though the doors were closed, none were locked. As they opened one by one, they were astonished by the resources present here.

One of the rooms was an alchemy room, filled with a lot of pills and potions. Similarly, there is a smithy, which was full of weapons and armour.

One of the doors led to a herb garden filled with a lot of herbs.

Many of them were not something they recognised at a glance. They knew that their knowledge is poor. So, they started to loot everything.

Voosh!

"What was that?" one of the men started looking around to see where that peculiar sound came from.

In fact, the sound that he heard was due to the movement at a very high speed, but they were too weak to properly recognise it.

The members were so immersed by the treasures present here that and forgot that this place was buried and sealed. No one would do such a thing for fun. Either something bad was sealed here, or something powerful that someone feared.

Either would not be good for them, as whatever that was sealed wouldn’t take kindly to stealing its treasures, and it didn’t.

"Aarrrgh", a cry came, and when the other turned around to see where the sound came from, all they saw was blood and drag marks, nothing else.

"What the fuck happened? Where is Oler?"

"Aarrghh", another cry came, and when they saw, there was only blood and drag marks.

"Shit run", one of them screamed and ran, followed by others but that didn’t stop anything.

One by one, everyone cried out in pain and disappeared.

"Noooo....save me...someone...", the woman cried out in horror, but there was no one to hear her cries for help. She was the last of the ten.

The team that went to find the anomaly got buried due to greed, not just theirs, but also because of their leader’s greed. If their leader were fair, most, if not all, would have relayed the information back to their base.

This way, whatever the cult was looking for might have fallen into their hands, or more cult members might have vanished when they would have eventually ventured into the buried ruins, just as the explorer team.
