Chapter 80 - The Goblin Horn and the Bermuda Zone’s Secret

«So is there a way or not?»

Lykan sat up straight and answered nervously.

«You must enhance the dignity of the king.»

«The dignity of the king?»

Just then, a voice came from another direction.

«I know how to do that.»

Jhin turned his head toward the sound. Pete was walking over at a calm pace.

«You need goblin horns. From what I know, goblins control souls through their horns.»

Jhin smiled as he welcomed him.

«Did it go well?»

«Piece of cake. I squeezed out as much as I could.»

«...Squeezed out?»

Pete chuckled and waved it off.

«Anyway, I think I can solve this problem. I happen to know where we can get an item made from goblin horn.»

He spoke proudly.

«The National Intelligence Service made an official request. Apparently, an ARK player team got stranded not far from here.»

«All of a sudden?»

«Just wait, there’s more. The team leader is a soldier—Captain Adonis. They went out to explore a place called the Bermuda Zone and disappeared.»

Jhin furrowed his brows.

«Bermuda Zone?»

«Yeah. There are strange zones popping up in New Capital now. Places where people go missing, even outside of dungeons. Stuff we never saw in Exodia1.»

«...Is it exclusive content from Exodia2?»

«No idea. I’ve never experienced it myself.»

Pete shrugged, his eyes gleaming with curiosity. Jhin had a feeling the next part would be important.

«The key is the last message Captain Adonis sent before he went missing. He left a text for ARK.»

「Danger, high level, Goblin Orb...」

There was only one conclusion to draw from that.

Peter grinned.

«The Bermuda Zone is related to goblins.»

Shuffle... shuffle...

In a dark space, a group of people huddled together.

They held their breath, listening to the strange sound sliding across the floor.

Scrrrk...

The noise grew distant.

Someone adjusted his broken glasses and peeked out.

«Captain... what now?»

«...»

«If this goes on, we’re all going to die.»

Everyone trembled. No one could disagree.

But Captain Adonis remained silent.

«We don’t have time,» another whispered. «We might be hidden for now, but their numbers keep growing.»

And then—

That sound again. Crawling.

They froze.

The thing slithered closer, scraping metal across stone.

«Grrr...»

It was right above them.

The smell of rotting garbage wafted down with its breath. No one dared move.

They just held their breath and covered their mouths.

Shhhk... shhk...

The sound moved away.

Everyone exhaled—quietly, shakily—pale as sheets.

Adonis looked around and saw his men watching him, waiting.

He finally spoke.

«That was a C-rank monster. A Lizard General. Born with a talent for hunting and armed with refined sword skills, it’s an elite monster far beyond normal threats.»

«...What?»

«That’s what just passed us.»

The soldiers bit their lips. They could feel it, too. Every monster they had seen so far had been far above their level.

But that one—

That one was a disaster.

Even ARK had called it a "small-scale catastrophe."

So many comrades had died because of it.

The Lizardman’s Well—one of the C-rank dungeons—was considered impossible to clear. Survival alone was rare.

Adonis rubbed his chin.

«Something’s wrong.»

«Sir?»

«There were no Lizardman tracks on the way here. And was there even a dungeon nearby?»

«But sir, there’s definitely a monster here.»

Adonis’s eyes narrowed.

«That’s what’s strange. We’ve seen lizardmen, orcs, goblins... too many types. Even in Exodia, we’ve never seen such a mixed ecosystem in one place.»

That was what puzzled him.

«And how would a Lizard General be roaming out here? Unless there’s been a dungeon break...»

A C-rank monster wandering outside its dungeon? That shouldn’t be possible.

As far as he knew, there hadn’t even been signs of a dungeon break in the Lizardman’s Well.

Unless someone had caused it.

He turned to one of his soldiers.

«The item... it was called a Goblin Orb?»

«Yes, sir. I saw it once, back in 1.»

«Then maybe it’s connected. Monsters don’t usually carry items that have nothing to do with their traits.»

As Adonis thought it over, one soldier finally spoke. His voice was shaking.

«...Captain, is this really the time for that?»

«Hm?»

«If we can’t get out, we’re as good as dead. Maybe you’re used to this kind of thing, but I can’t die here. I promised I’d make it back...»

Adonis narrowed his eyes.

«Death flag.»

«What?»

«Don’t worry. We’ll make it out. No—we have to.»

He stood slowly in the darkness.

The place around them was filled with strange, eerie devices.

It was that kind of space.

«This place is a trap. We need to make sure no one else comes here.»

Weight of a Soul

"...Was that guy alive too?"

Jhin narrowed his eyes, surprised by the familiar face.

"Oh, him?"

Pete gestured casually toward the man standing beside him, shoulders sagging under the weight of heavy packs. Sweat was pouring down his face like a faucet left open, and yet the sharpness in his glare was pure venom. That vicious stare didn’t let up for even a second.

Pete slapped the back of the man’s head with a thwack.

"Eyes down, punk. You know who you’re lookin’ at?"

"...Tch."

The sound of gritted teeth was unmistakable, but the man dropped his head low without a word.

He used to be one of the Company’s people—the original owner of the Three Goblins and the one who had worn the Goblin Mask. A copycat, made in imitation of the Dungeon Merchant Neon.

And now?

Now he was being treated like cargo.

Jhin ’s gaze flicked between the two. The guy’s submissiveness toward Pete said it all.

"...So, what, was he trying to take your entire soul with that contract or something?"

"Yeah. Everything. Cocky bastard."
