Extra's Abyss-Chapter 28: Catherine Marguerite
Chapter 28 - Catherine Marguerite
On the other side of the city on the same day, A silent purge was being carried out somewhere.
Star City, the majestic capital of the Starborne Empire, sprawled with towering structures made of gleaming white marble and spires adorned with intricate golden carvings, exuded an aura of grandeur and power.
At the very center, a massive mansion was built with extraordinary materials. Four massive towers stood at each corner of the mansion, with large blue lights flashing at the top.
The four towers were responsible for the barrier surrounding the entire star city.
The city was divided into four distinct areas, the whole city was enclosed by a massive wall. The core area, with its opulent palaces and gardens, was exclusively reserved for the royal family to maintain their privacy and security.
The next area around them was the largest area; nobles along with commoners lived here. The zone also had various smaller businesses situated here. The order was maintained here by the City Knights.
The next area was for the industrial zone, where massive buildings along with skyscrapers and large corporations have their headquarters or branches located here.
The area covering the border of the walls of the city was a militarized zone.
One of the ordinary stores, known for selling clothing and cosmetics, was unexpectedly closed today.
Below the store, there was an underground area stretching for around 5 times the store's area.
The walls of the underground space were filled with numerous runes flashing a faint red light as screams echoed out from the depths.
Various bodies were dismembered, some riddled with gunshot holes.
The entire space reeked of blood, forming a vortex of red mist in the air.
Heading further in, the scene continued till the core area, where there were fewer bodies.
Loud shockwaves spread across the walls and ground, leaving cracks until they were stopped by the runes engraved onto the outer walls.
Inside a large space, where several high-technology machines were present, a fight was going on; the shockwaves from each clash had destroyed everything present in the area.
"Fucking bitch, who the hell sent you?" A man roared at the woman who had infiltrated his base and fucking massacred everyone here.
The man had a huge body, easily standing over 9 feet tall with huge, black, disfigured-like arms. He smashed onto the ground, sending shockwaves ahead.
Opposite him was a woman around 6 feet tall; she looked like a bug in the eyes of the man.
Her hoarse voice answered to him, "Does it matter? You will be just like those bodies outside soon, Herodes!" Her purple eyes glared at him, running towards him as her feet sparkled with purple light, increasing her speed.
The man named Herodes smirked as a dark mana enveloped him and began gathering behind him, morphing into a huge pair of black wings. "I'm going to savor this, tearing you apart piece by piece until there's nothing left to scream, and then I—"
He was cut off when a bullet shot towards him, grazing his face slightly. "Less chatter, more action."
Flashing to his side, her rapier flashed with a purple aura as she thrusted it multiple times, making several cuts over his huge body.
Herodes quickly used his hands to shield his face, noticing her aiming for his head, or so he thought, when he felt her rapier pierce his stomach with a lunge attack.
He realizes it was a feint attack too late; he quickly tries to grab her with both of his arms when he sees a barrel right in front of his face.
The woman pulled the trigger instantly as she backed off, taking her rapier out of his stomach.
Glancing back at him, she saw smoke rising, and a blue barrier flickered for a second before shattering, revealing Herodes breathing heavily in the midst of the smoke.
"Damn it, damn it, damn it, fuckkk!" Herodes let out a roar as he used his wings to make distance from her, trying to come up with a plan.
The woman used her own mana to form a pair of green wings; they flapped, generating massive wind blades, shooting towards Herodes.
Herodes used his bare hands to tank all the wind blades, already forming a magic circle behind his back.
Noticing the magic circle behind Herodes, her wings turned purple in an instant as she disappeared. Flashing behind him, she steadied her rapier and slashed it towards the spell.
Herodes, having already anticipated it, dispersed the magic circle behind him and caught the sword in his hand, glaring at the woman.
He punched her in the gut, sending her flying across the room with his wings flapping, intending to follow her.
Herodes increased his speed to the limit, appearing behind her as he sent an uppercut, sending her upwards.
He continued to chase after her limp body, constantly sending her all around the space with his mana-powered punches.
After what felt like dozens of punches, he sent one last punch, sending her disfigured body to the floor, leaving a large crater at its impact.
Breathing heavily, he stood triumphantly over her battered and bloodied form, a look of satisfaction and pleasure in his eyes.
He was feeling a sense of euphoria remembering the barrage of punches he had unleashed on the intruder.
He had exhausted his mana entirely and made sure to continue hitting her, even after he knew she was dead.
The room fell silent, with only the echo of his heavy breaths filling the air as he gazed at the deformed meat body in the crater.
"Phew, that—" Herodes let out a sigh, relaxed, and just when he was about to speak, he felt something sharp cut through his four limbs.
He fell to the ground with a thud, screaming as he glanced back to see his two massive legs still standing and his massive hands had fallen limp beside them.
"ahh—"
"Shut it, will you? You're going to burst my ears at this rate.", his mouth was instantly sewed with blue thread, and the thread froze his entire mouth.
He stared at the same woman he had crushed into meat paste just a few seconds ago, yet he looked at her, who was alive and was walking towards him.
"Had your moment of glory, did you? Pity it was all for nothing, big guy?" Her sharp voice cut through the air as she mocked him.
Herodes's face paled as he realized she was toying with him from the very beginning.
"What you fought was just—sigh, why am I even bothering to explain it now? Anyways, just die." She aimed her gun at his forehead and shot an ice-blue bullet towards him.
Herodes glared at her; he tried to talk, but he realized his mouth was frozen, and in an instant his vision turned blue.
The bullet instantly froze his entire body, which then cracked and shattered into billions of blue particles.
"Agent White reporting, target eliminated and information secured." She retrieved a black cube, a crucial device given to her, and she communicated through it. The cube's side opened a little as it projected a white outline of a human.
"Well done, Agent White. Evacuate immediately. Stand by for your next objective." An old voice came from the cube.
"Yes, sir," The cube returned to its original shape.
She let out a sigh and looked around for a second before she used an artifact to teleport back to her room, which she had booked for the past year.
She was suddenly assigned a mission around a year ago, and only now she had completed it.
Having appeared inside her room, she took out her headgear, revealing her long silver hair.
Glancing at the mirror, she saw her reflection.
Her face, with its flawlessly symmetrical features, beautiful crystal purple eyes, and snow-white skin, she exuded an otherworldly grace that had left many people in awe.
She was Catherine Marguerite, a professor in training a year ago, she looks over an orphanage with another person, funding it with her own money.
A year ago, Catherine had already earned her professor's certificate, intending to join Ethereon University, but her mission delayed her plans.
Speaking of her mission, she was an undercover agent for a private unit working for the queen.
The unit was led by the queen herself; the queen was the one who formed this unit with the permission of her husband- The emperor.
Anyways, she had already requested from her head that she would like to become a professor, and surprisingly, they accepted her request.
And her career as a professor will begin in half a year.
She was thrilled at the prospect of becoming a professor, but now that she had half a year left, she was slapped with a bucket of cold water, forced to sit around and do nothing.
Letting out a sigh, she shed all of her gear and slipped into her comfortable nightdress. free𝑤ebnovel.com
"That was so exhausting; I should just take a rest for now and not scroll through the Internet till morning like always". She tends to get lost while surfing the Internet.
By the time she finally notices, the sun will already be greeting her with a warm smile in the early morning.
She had to wake up early in the morning and catch her ride back to Stellar City."
Reaching out to her watch, which she uses for normal daily life, she opened the alarm app.
Catherine set 10 alarms, each with a 5-minute gap between them, ensuring she wouldn't oversleep as always; closing her eyes, she drifted off to sleep.
