Chapter 43: The Negotiation

The two Viscounts and the Merchants continued to discuss one way after another to capture, kill, and torture their opponents. Axel realized that Merchant Han was the one in the leading position among the trio and the man with the greatest authority in the underground network operation.

It seems their main goal was to build an information network in the end. Then use that information to slowly move up in the social ladder through blackmail and exploitation. They were so engrossed in their discussion that they didn’t even notice Axel sitting there for almost 5 minutes straight. Axel, being taught by the butler who was an expert assassin himself, knew how to hide his presence naturally. Of course, he was sitting a bit away from them as well.

Only after a total of 10 minutes had passed that their discussion near its end, Viscount Frank called out, "Guards, get the girls and the drinks."

Axel chuckled to himself and shook his head, the awareness of these high class people were so beyond stupid that he decided to bring the drinks himself. In a silver plate he brought some drinks. He put the tray down in their table. There was an orange juice in the glass, he took that and started drinking.

Only then did they notice him; what caught their attention was that a short person, the same height as a kid, had actually brought the drink. But when they saw that it was actually a small kid who brought the drink, the kid was wrapped up in dark clothes, even his head. Only his eyes and mouth could be seen. The kid was drinking the orange juice calmly.

They could not help but jump up in suspicion. Merchant Han narrowed his eyes, "Who are you? kid."

The two viscounts also became vigilant; they immediately called for the guards outside.

But it was Axel who responded, "Why are you calling the guards? I already brought the drinks. What else do you need?"

Hearing the childish voice, their guess was confirmed; it was some unknown kid. Viscount Frank stated arrogantly, "How dare a wretch like you come here? And you dare talk like that? It seems you have lost your mind, brat, and you’re tired of living, is that it?"

Viscount Frank added, "Damn it!!! These fucking useless guards how dare they let in some unknown kid. They are still not coming? It seems these trash have forgotten who we are?"

Merchant Han on the other hand had a good head on his shoulder, he asked the unknown kid once more, "Kid you didn’t answer who you are?"

Axel chuckled as he finished the drink, "Well, you should at least let me finish the drink."

"Well, who do you think I am?" stated Axel as he stared deep into the eyes of the Merchant Han.

Strangely, the eye color of Merchant Han seems to be the same as Ash’s, but the merchant obviously did not notice that peculiar detail in the dim light of the room. As if realizing something, the Merchant’s eyes widened.

His expression immediately changed as he said in slight panic, "You? You’re the kid behind all of the underlings being wiped out?"

The moment Axel heard those words, he smiled and released his killing intent. He released a fraction of it, but all three of them immediately went on their knees, unable to stand any further. A primal fear invaded deep into their hearts. It was a fear so great that they felt their throats go dry. Their eye opened wide, unable to breathe.

Some blood came out of their noses from the unbearable fear they were feeling. Seeing that they might faint soon, Axel retracted some of his pressure, but a small amount of the killing intent remained. Just enough to keep them kneeling,

Being able to breathe again, they gasped for breath roughly. They looked at the little boy sitting on the sofa, with one leg above the other, with pure terror. Axel, noticing them looking towards the doors, hoping for the guards to come and rescue them, said,

"Oh, everyone outside is already unconscious."

"Don’t tell me you didn’t notice the music had stopped long ago, as well as the other noises?" added Axel in a mocking tone.

All three of their eyes widened in disbelief, especially Merchant Han. He considered himself a very intelligent and observant person. He couldn’t believe that he didn’t notice such an apparent change in the environment. But he was more shocked thinking about something else. The noises had stopped for more than 10 minutes at the very least.

He looked at Axel with shock, "You were here for more than 10 minutes?"

The two viscounts looked at him with terror. "Impossible, that would mean he heard all of our conversation?" stated Frank.

Axel laughed as he said, "Oh, so you’re not totally dumb after all, I guess."

But the two viscounts were not so smart, realizing that their enemy was right in front of them and that the other party was tremendously stronger, they could only resort to their status as noble men to save their lives.

"I don’t know who you are, but you better drop this act and let us go, you won’t have a place to escape if you dare to lay a hand on us. The very fact that you have made us kneel is punishable by death," threatened Viscount Frank.

"Let me guess, you didn’t know who was behind the thugs, and now that you know who is? You’re here to make a negotiation, fearing what would happen next?" sneered Viscount Zeke.

Axel’s expression immediately turned serious, hearing those words. Merchant Han, on the other hand, gritted his teeth; only he understood the severity of the situation. Just as he was about to say something, the killing intent increased again.

"There are a few things you got wrong here. First, I don’t care about your threats; those simply won’t work on me. Second, I targeted the thugs to find out who was behind them, not the other way around," stated Axel.

"Third, it’s better for the dogs not to intervene when their masters are talking," announced Axel in a chilling tone that left no room for further discussion. This killing intent targeted the two of them specifically as the two viscounts’ heads slammed into the ground.

His attention then moved towards the merchant as he brought out a small file from his clothes. Axel threw it towards the merchant as his killing intent vanished. The merchant took the file in his hands with apparent hesitation and started reading, The two viscounts could sit up again as they did the same.

The merchant’s expression became uglier and uglier as he kept reading one document after another. The same was for the two viscounts. But before they could speak any empty threats further towards Axel, the merchant shot a furious glance towards the two of them, which shut them up for good.

In the end, with a lot of effort, the merchant eased his expression as he asked Axel coldly,

"What do you want?"

"I want money, a lot of money. In exchange for not interfering with your operations anymore and not revealing any of this information. Of course," stated Axel.

The two viscounts still wore displeased expressions but the merchants eye flickered with understanding, money wasn’t a problem for him. If all of these were only for money that would be quite an easy problem to solve.

What he feared wasn’t the case, the person in front of them did not have someone powerful backing him most likely, or there wasn’t some deep ploy against them. It was just a powerful rogue individual looking for money. But considering the powerful killing intent the little kid emitted, its possible he might become a powerful warrior in the future.

It would be unwise for them to offend someone like that. So, he nodded and said,

"Okay, how much do you want? But we have to make a mana oath that you will not back out of the deal. And if anyone else with you knows that information, they will not spread it either."

"Yes, yes, an agreement with no loopholes. I get it," agreed Axel to the merchant’s request.

"So, how much do you want?" asked the Merchant.

Axel waited for a moment and revealed calmly, "1 million gold."

Silence, the moment he revealed the amount, a deafening silence permeated the entire room. Viscount Frank could not help but laugh aloud, "hahahahhhaa....." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

"Do you even realize how much that money is?" stated the viscount mockingly."

Viscount Zeke added, "It seems you have truly lost your mind, boy."

"Sorry, how much?" asked Merchant Han as if he had misheard the amount said.

Axel said again calmly, "1 million."

The merchant became furious as he said, "Not a chance, even for a negotiation, do you think you can say that high of an amount?"

He shook his head and said, "100 thousand, take it or leave it."

Axel chuckled, hearing the Merchant drop the price to 1/10th of what he said.

"If these evidences of your crimes reach the right ears, how much do you think you would lose? Everything?"

"No, maybe not everything. But I’m sure all three of you will lose more than half of all your wealth, not only that, your status itself will be in danger."

"So, 1 million take it or leave it," commented Axel leisurely without worry as if everything had been in the palm of his hands from the very start.
