Chapter 62: The Garbage

In the Runic mage tower area, Axel’s little brother Akon was sitting in the outer library reading books in a separate chamber. A few moments later, a plain old-looking man came in and sat next to the boy. The old man started speaking,

"Brat, you should have come to me and spoken about it sooner."

The little boy lowered his head in shame, he did not look at the old man anymore. But the old man grumbled seeing that, he spoke, "Oh come on, now. I am not reprimanding you; if you had just told me this sooner, this could have been solved far beforehand."

The boy lowered his head and kept looking at the book. The old man shook his head and said, "But don’t worry, brat. I’ve handled it, that damn thing will never bother you again, nor anyone in your class. You can be sure of that."

Akon asked hesitatingly, "But I heard, he, he has a mighty brother."

The old man said, remarking internally, ’If only this brat knew, how strong his own brother was.’

"Don’t worry, this old man is much, much stronger, so is your brother," revealed the old man.

Akon asked with wonderous eyes, "My brother is stronger than you, Sir Librarian."

Yes, the old man was Librarian Leroy. He winced and rebuked, "Of course not, this old man is far stronger. Your brother isn’t at that level yet."

Akon showed a nod and asked when his older brother would be coming back. The old man checked a certain artifact and said with a smile, "Oh, it seems he’s coming back today."

Akon beamed in joy, he was happy his brother was coming back after almost a month, or maybe more. He knew that his older brother was busy with some important experiments.

Old man Leroy also revealed that his older brother was successful in his endeavor.

The old man added at this moment with a slight cough, "Now, do me a favor and don’t tell your older brother about what happened in the school, I mean the fact that you were actually bullied."

Akon nodded, "It was my fault for revealing the fact that we were from the streets, the slums."

Old man Leroy sighed sadly and stated, "Those born rich have prejudice against those who are poor. Those born poor have a prejudice against the rich. Those with power despise the powerless, the powerless despise the powerful."

"The immortals view mortals as ants, while the mortals view immortals as fake."

"That’s just how the world is, and it always will be. As it is meant to be."

Akon’s eyes became fascinated by the piece of wisdom that the old man had revealed. He nodded in understanding. Then, seriously started thinking about what the old man said, but old man Leroy ruffled Akon’s hair as he said, "Now go back to your apartment, your brother will be expecting you there."

Little Akon hurriedly went back to the apartment, reading his books as usual, waiting for his brother to come back. A few hours later, the sound of the door unlocking was heard by Akon. But he did not go out to greet his brother, he waited for him, silently.

The sound of shallow footsteps came closer and closer, until a familiar but changed figure appeared in his view. He looked up from his book. His older brother was staring at him with a pleasant smile. Akon also smiled at his brother. His brother asked,

"How have you been, little bro?"

Akon answered cheerfully, "Pretty good, as always."

Axel came closer and ruffled his hair messily, "Oh? That means you didn’t miss this older brother of yours’s you damn, punk."

Akon laughed sheepishly, both brothers laughed, talking about this and that, and they went out. There was a newly built magic amusement park, Axel took Akon with him to the place. They spent some quality time, unlike when at school, Akon didn’t need to fake his sense of self. He could, after a long time, be just himself and not need to worry about anything else.

The whole day passed in enjoyment. They also kind of reminisced, but they did not appear sad when that sad topic was brought up. Instead, they were both happy with how far they had come, but Akon felt himself lacking in the midst of it.

After all, this improvement in lifestyle could be attributed to only his brother and his brother alone. But he shook off that feeling and simply enjoyed the time with his brother. He, of course, tactfully made sure not to reveal the fact that he was bullied, even as a slip of the tongue.

While Axel himself also tactfully did not reveal any of the turmoil he went through, how he killed his father, then the person who he somewhat considered a friend, had thrown such a disgusting comment at him. Just the thought of it made his blood boil.

But none of those negative emotions showed on his face; he also enjoyed the time, simply seeing his little brother, who knew nothing but sadness, being so happy. He was walking through a beautiful lake bridge with Akon, but suddenly another small boy called out from behind.

Akon abruptly stopped hearing that voice as he looked backwards, but an internal shudder ran through him. It was Xenon, the damn sadistic classmate of his, In fact initially they were very good friends, one of his closest friends in the whole first year of his schools, but one day somehow some of the facts leaked from Akon’s mouth, the fact that they actually lived on the slums.

That their mother was once a prostitute. It happened in a spur-of-the-moment. Xenon was sharing his own situation, so he felt like he had to share some of his own things as well. Being so close to him at the time, he forgot the fact that he shouldn’t reveal things about his past.

At first, his friend thought that he was perhaps joking, but when he understood that Akon’s words were actually the truth. The boy showed him an absolutely disgusted expression. Akon at that moment did not understand the full implications of the things he revealed.

The next day, Akon found every single classmate of his staring at him with disgusted expressions, and many of them continued to curse at him. While some of them asked him if the things Xenon revealed were indeed the truth or not.

He couldn’t lie on that occasion. A part of him did not want to lie as well. So, he simply nodded, agreeing with all that. From then on, things became almost hell for him. Of course, there were certain boundaries that the students could not cross. But it didn’t take long for almost the whole class to turn against him.

No one would sit near him or go remotely near him. They would show a disgusted expression towards him. As if they were seeing the most disgusting garbage in the world. While no one could put their hands on him. Or try anything extreme. The teachers tried to mediate the situation. But they could do little when the whole class was against him.

The whole school learned of this, and shifting to another school will make things even worse. Everyone had given him one nickname, "THE GARBAGE".

It happened around the time his brother became busy with his project, and a few months had passed since then. He did not want to bother his older brother with those things; he had no intention of saying anything to his brother. Especially since the librarian said that he had taken care of it.

But to meet this sadistic bastard now, of all the times, what a damn luck, Seeing that Akon was not responding, Axel asked his brother curiously, "What? is he your friend? From school?"

But the little boy named Xenon at this moment chuckled, "Oh come on now, Akon. Not responding to your friend here? Huh. What’s wrong with you?"

But Akon only had a bad feeling about the strangeness of this bastard, he still forced out a smile as he said, "Oh, hey. Funny meeting you here. What are you doing?"

Xenon responded, "Hah, yeah same same, funny meeting you here, well things were going quite well for me. Since this was a beautiful place, only the families of the mages were allowed in here. But something just had to happen."

But it was Axel who asked the question, smiling towards a boy whom he presumed to be Akon’s friend, "And what problem might that be?"

"I encountered some garbage here, it’s so disappointing that the workers are not keeping such a place clean properly," exclaimed Xenon with a smile.

The moment Akon heard that, his throat went dry in fear, no, no, no, no. Not in front of brother, at least not in front of his brother. He panicked, unable to speak.

"But I don’t didn’t see any trash around here, though?" asked Axel skeptically.

The little boy named Xenon’s smile broadened. He raised his hand and pointed a finger straight towards Akon, and Akon’s face turned absolutely pale in terror. He unconsciously glanced towards his brother.

Who had a thoughtful expression on his face. He considered, Could it be some sort of prank or game between the kids here? So he asked honestly, "What do you mean?"

The boy smiled again and said mockingly, "Why? I mean that he is the only GARBAGE here, of course."
