Chapter 40: Chapter 40: Someone is hitting on me, do you care?
The film crew was going out of town to shoot, and it would be a week before they returned. Afterward, Shen Zhiyi, following Wang Feifei’s arrangement, attended an event hosted by a brand. By the time it ended, it was already very late.
Wang Feifei brought her coat over, “Going back to Huating?”
Though not entirely cut off from communication during the week of filming out of town, she hadn’t contacted Pei Yu much, only occasionally sending a message; it was indeed time to return to Huating.
She nodded and was just about to reply when Xiaodong came running over with her phone, panting and looking tense, as if holding a hot potato, “Sister Zhiyi, that person has sent a message.”
He had only caught a glimpse of the note “Mr. Pei” before he hurriedly handed over the phone.
Shen Zhiyi took the phone to check, and Pei Yu had sent a photo that seemed to have been taken casually. In the photo, he was only wearing a snow-white shirt, but the chest area of the shirt was soaked with a deep red wine stain, vaguely revealing the attractive contours of his abs.
She was puzzled and replied.
“What happened?”
The vibration of the phone broke the tense atmosphere in the private room. The girl in the red dress bit her lip and apologized again, “I’m sorry, Pei Yu, I was too careless.”
About a dozen people were sitting scattered in the private room, and after the recent incident, everyone naturally quietened down, covertly and intently watching the scene unfold.
The girl was from the Zhao Family, beautiful and seemingly quite proud, employing very clumsy means as if she believed she didn’t need to put in much effort to achieve her goal, or possibly because she found subtle methods too troublesome. As minutes passed by, the man remained silent, and she gradually began to look unstable, her complexion turning pale.
Full of anticipation, she leaned forward slightly, her tone gentle, “Pei Yu…”
The two were acquaintances from childhood, having attended the same banquet with their fathers and even played together briefly. Compared to others, Pei Yu should have been more familiar with her.
The cold-toned decor made the space seem unattainable even under the lavish light atmosphere. Pei Yu was sitting on a pure black leather sofa, casually flexing his long legs, the front of his shirt soaked with wine, a few drops even splashed onto his neck. He slightly turned his head, wiped it with his fingertip expressionlessly, then vaguely smirked, “Accidental? It seemed quite precise to me.”
Right on the chest.
Unlike others who would perhaps perform a gentlemanly facade, his attitude was dismissive, his tone mocking, disdainful of her clumsy ploys; he clearly knew her intentions, not only did he not accept them, he looked down on them.
Picking up his coat, Pei Yu walked toward the lounge, the waiter had already gone to fetch clean clothes as instructed.
The girl bit her lip, her face burning, but thinking of the opportunity she had hardly crafted, she stuck to the plan, having someone bring the clothes she had prepared, and personally delivered them to Pei Yu.
The few onlookers took it all in, thoughts whirling.
If this Miss Zhao succeeded, later on, more women would employ such tactics, not fewer.
The lounge was separated from the banquet hall by a corridor, and with the party still not officially over, men and women conversed softly under the brilliant lights without Shen Zhiyi appearing out of place in such a setting.
She had rushed over after receiving Pei Yu’s message, him not providing an explanation, just the address, thankfully not too far away.
The thick carpet muffled her footsteps, making them quiet and soundless. Shen Zhiyi slipped past the crowd inconspicuously, asking a waiter before finding the lounge.

The door was unlocked, easily opening with a gentle push. Shen Zhiyi hadn’t even stepped in when a hand from inside pulled her through, suddenly enveloping her in the warm embrace scented with Agarwood.
The warmth beneath her palm was his chest, and as she lifted her head, she realized Pei Yu hadn’t put on a shirt. Under the bright light, her cheek was pressed against his chest, where there was a shallow, round scar she had never noticed before.
Even though he seemed like a person from the clouds, why did he have so many scars?
“You were slow in coming.”
Pei Yu held her for a while before he let go, looked at her intently with lowered eyes, probably because he had just attended an event without changing clothes. Her makeup was delicate, and an oyster pink silk cheongsam outlined her graceful figure. Her long hair was all tied up with a jade hairpin, and her face was as small as a palm, with beautiful brows and eyes.
Actually, the line of her shoulders and neck was particularly pretty, with two straight and slender collarbones. It was just that the scar on her shoulder hadn’t completely faded, and she had been avoiding clothes that exposed her shoulders lately. Additionally, after the injury, Pei Yu particularly loved to bite that spot, as if he wanted to cover the scar with his bite marks.
The lighting inside was a bit too bright, Shen Zhiyi glanced downward and gently pushed him, whispering, “Hurry and put on some clothes.”
“The person bringing the clothes hasn’t arrived yet.”
Shen Zhiyi was puzzled, “Then you should have just asked someone to bring you clothes, why did you ask me to come?”
She couldn’t help anyway.
Pei Yu stepped back a few steps, pulled her to sit down, but while he sat on a chair, she ended up sitting on his lap.
He leaned back against the chair, his arms firmly around her waist. His muscle lines were more pronounced, almost ferocious, an infrequent sight. He gripped her slim waist and kneaded it slowly, “Someone tried to seduce me, do you care?”
Sitting on his thigh, needing to steady herself by holding his shoulders, Shen Zhiyi felt uncomfortable all over and didn’t pay attention to what he was saying, “I don’t care.”
Her waist was squeezed tightly, and he deliberately lifted his leg. She cried out in shock and fell completely into his arms, pressing tightly against his bare chest, both embarrassed and annoyed, “What are you doing?”
Pei Yu lowered his head, almost burying it in her neck, sniffing the faint fruit scent on her body, his tone was low and assertive, “Not caring is not an option.”
Only then did she connect what he had just said with that incident involving the wine-soaked shirt, and she roughly understood what he meant by “seduction,” but she didn’t know how he expected her to handle it.
How was she supposed to handle it?
The door was knocked, probably by the person delivering the clothes. Shen Zhiyi instinctively tried to get off Pei Yu, struggling a bit only to be pushed back down.
That door had not been fully closed since her arrival; a push would open it, exposing this ambiguous scene instantly. Shen Zhiyi didn’t understand what Pei Yu was trying to do and spoke very softly, “Let me get up first.”
But Pei Yu didn’t let her go, his fingertips tapped her bent knees, drawing out his words, “Sit properly.”
No movement was heard inside the room, but the person outside grew impatient. She uneasily pushed the door open and walked in while calling out, “Mr. Pei—”
It was a gentle female voice. Shen Zhiyi was slightly startled, her first reaction was to look at Pei Yu, who did not bow his head, but his tone became colder as he rebuked sharply.
“Get out.”
Almost instinctively, the girl stepped back in shock, hitting the half-open door and coming back to her senses all at once.
