Chapter 1991: The Curtains Fall

There was no doubt about it. The power of that jade pendant was unquestionably terrifying, to the point that the terrifying man in long robes sensed the danger and bluffed in a bid to deceive Su Yi.

When the Master Gods realized this, their hearts sank. We’re in trouble! That jade pendant is more than that existence can deal with, even before factoring in that mysterious and terrifying woman!

“Interesting.” The man in long robes suddenly burst into laughter. “All of these variables are external and not of the present Epoch. It seems he’s already grasped the complete Dao of Reincarnation!”

He then looked at Su Yi. At that moment, Su Yi felt a rending pain in his soul, as if countless invisible tendrils had pierced it.

The woman flipped and turned her palm, then sliced the air.

Boom!

The formless power in the sky split, and the attack on Su Yi’s soul vanished.

Practically simultaneously, the woman walked through the sky and attacked the man in long robes.

The man stretched out his hand and struck the air.

Boom!

The eternal darkness over heaven and earth rapidly constricted, forming a massive cage around the woman.

“Hurry up and destroy the Chaos Dao Cave!” bellowed the man in long robes. “Only then can we sever the Epoch Battlefield and break free. If we don’t, you’re sure to perish!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, the Dipankara Buddha and the other remaining Master Gods attacked the Chaos Dao Cave without hesitation.

Su Yi moved to intercept them.

Boom!!

The cage burst. Endless radiant Dao Light erupted from the woman’s figure as she struck the air from afar, swatting the man in long robes like an insect and sending him flying.

His body visibly split, scattering a rain of light.

“Just as I thought. You’re from the Spirit Martial Epoch too. Otherwise, there’s no way the River of Destiny wouldn’t bear your Dao Mark!” The man in long robes finally understood. “Remember this: my name is Di E. Now that I’ve set my sights on you, there’s no way you’ll escape!”

Before his voice had even finished echoing through the air, his figure shattered and dissipated. The curtain of darkness enveloping heaven and earth collapsed and receded.

“So what if you figured that out? Everything in this world must ultimately undergo a thorough reshuffling anyway,” said the woman. Then, she turned to look at Su Yi.

Boom!

Su Yi was currently waging war against five Master Gods’ avatars of will. He fought one against five, but he still had the advantage. He was practically invincible.

Within moments, the Angler was the first to break. His avatar of will split beneath Su Yi’s sword and shattered into a rain of light.

In the last moments before his avatar’s destruction, he looked at the woman identical to Xi Ning, then again a Su Yi, bitterness and hatred written all over his face.

He was a Master God! One of the greatest hegemons of the God Domain!

Yet now, he and his allies were mere avatars of will, and the restrictions of the Immortal Dao confined them to the Lesser God level. No matter how all-encompassing their abilities, there was nothing they could do against the Great Profound Stage Su Yi.

“If my true body were here, I could crush you like an ant!” roared the Rahu Yao Ancestor.

A sword strike pierced his skull, and his avatar exploded with a bang.

“Countless years of plotting, only for a variable to cost us our victory in the end… Everything is not yet over. When you return to the God Domain, you’ll be plagued with endless difficulties!” roared Master God Tian Huang.

He attacked boldly, charging valiantly into the fray, and he even chose to set his avatar of will ablaze in hopes of mutual destruction.

Alas, this goal never came to fruition. He was still mid-charge when the Sword of Proximity sent the power of reincarnation his way, grinding him to nothingness.

Clang!

The impassioned hum of a sword resounded through the air.

The seemingly youthful Daoist, Master God Yun He, swung his sword and attacked. His combat prowess was terrifying. Of everyone present, he and the Dipankara Buddha were the strongest.

But in the end, he lost too. Su Yi cleaved him in two at the waist.

In the last moments before his destruction, his expression was calm, with no sign of fury or bitterness. All he said was, “I hung the sword you used back then, Phoenix Song, over the Boundless Battlefield. I’ll be waiting there for you!”

Finally, the Dipankara Buddha was the only one left.

After watching the others fall, he let out a deep sigh and clasped his palms.

Boom!

His body caught ablaze, igniting with Buddhist flame. Soon, it vanished completely.

He obviously preferred to destroy his avatar himself over letting it die beneath Su Yi’s sword.

More than ten Master Gods had sent their avatars of will into the Epoch Battlefield, but now, all of them had been destroyed!

The ground was marred with the vestiges of battle, a silent recounting of a terrifying battle.

Su Yi gripped the Sword of Proximity and looked around. He couldn’t help but be rueful.

This battle had begun with the Anglers’ pursuit. He’d fled for his life, struggling with all his might to escape. He’d faced life-and-death peril on numerous occasions, and he’d been rendered utterly wretched, brutalized to the brink of death.

Master Gods had joined forces against him, and over a hundred other deities had joined the charge. Even Xi Ning met with disaster, almost dying in the process!

The gods had begun making arrangements a long, long time ago. There was danger at every turn, and all of it was targeting him!

Now, the curtains had finally fallen on this battle. When he thought back to everything he’d experienced, Su Yi couldn’t help but feel as if it had happened in another life.

But it wasn’t over yet.

“Daoist Brother, now that this is settled, I’d best depart.” The woman walked over, her picturesque features tinged with reluctance.

“Before you leave, is there anything you’d like to say to me?” asked Su Yi.

The woman’s starry eyes flashed, and she said tenderly, “I just hope that once we’re reunited, we’ll never be apart again.”

Su Yi was stunned. The woman, meanwhile, flashed him a radiant grin and waved farewell. Then, she transformed into a rain of light and scattered.

Memories flooded Su Yi’s mind.

The Book of Karma had divined that an unknown karmic thread existed between him and Xi Ning, but it was so taboo that not even the book could glean any further insights.

The spearwoman, Lin Jinghong, had said that Su Yi and Xi Ning’s relationship was extraordinary, and that when Xi Ning awakened the source of her talent, she’d understand the karma between them.

All of this combined meant that both he and Xi Ning understood full well that their meeting was no coincidence!

Now, after everything this woman said, Su Yi was starting to understand. The woman had been the close confidante of one of his past lives.

And Xi Ning was her current incarnation!

It seems that the true Xi Ning is an existence who’s risen above the River of Destiny? Don’t tell me she was acquainted with my first incarnation? Su Yi recalled the time he caught a glimpse of the River of Destiny and saw the swordsman standing above it.

That was his first incarnation!

And it was his first incarnation who shared the mysteries of Profound Ruin with him.

And according to the long-robed man who called himself Di E, at her peak, Xi Ning had already begun searching for the mysteries of the River of Destiny, and she’d stepped into the Domain of Eternity!

All of this seemed to prove that the one Xi Ning knew wasn’t Li Fuyou or any of his other past incarnations, but rather… his first incarnation!

No wonder Xi Ning and I had such tacit understanding, as if our hearts were connected, from the moment we met. This… must be why… thought Su Yi.

That Di E person called me Li Fuyou, but he also guessed I might be Yi Daoxuan. That name must belong to another of my past lives. I highly suspect that he, like Li Fuyou, was one of the two who perished at the hands of the gods.

Numerous disconnected pieces of information suddenly clicked together.

The gods had been planning for this battle for a long time. The top orthodoxies of the God Domain weren’t the only ones paying attention; his past lives’ friends were paying attention too.

Thus, his old friends appeared when he underwent tribulation, appearing just in time to stop the gods from attacking him.

The Dipankara Buddha, the Angler, and the other gods were backed by an even more terrifying and mysterious existence——Di E!

Someone who’d already started seeking the mysteries of the River of Destiny!

Su Yi had won this battle, but he didn’t even need to think to know that the gods were sure to attack in a frenzy as soon as he entered the God Domain.

After all, this was the Immortal Realm. The gods had lost, but he’d only destroyed their avatars. That would have little impact on their true bodies.

In terms of cultivation, the disparity between him and most of the gods was enormous! Especially the Master Gods. Almost the entirety of the Divine Dao stood between them and him.

It was obvious to Su Yi that, if he went to the God Domain with his current strength, he wouldn’t even be able to defeat Greater Gods, let alone Master Gods!

But Su Yi wasn’t at all concerned about that.

He’d already established an invincible path through the Great Realm, and he’d managed to slay Lesser Gods in the Great Unity Stage. Now that he’d entered the Great Profound, all he had to do was cultivate steadily. One day, he’d be able to crush both gods and Buddhas and plunge them back into the dust of mundanity!

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The sword of cultivators whooshing through the air resounded from afar. Su Yi looked over and saw the divine children who hadn’t participated in the battle fleeing like dogs who’d lost their masters.

Their ranks included several recently ascended gods, and even a few deities’ avatars of will!

Su Yi wasn’t at all polite. He just stood there, not batting an eye as the Sword of Proximity slashed out repeatedly.

No matter how far the fleeing experts went or which direction they fled in, tyrannical, terrifying chaos sword qi cut them down. Blood splattered the air, and desperate cries rang out as bodies fell to earth like rain.

The Sword of Proximity’s wondrous abilities were on full display. When the Sword of Proximity locked onto someone, even the ends of the earth were close at hand. Fleeing was useless.

Within a few blinks of an eye, all of the fleeing cultivators had been executed.

Clang!

Su Yi sheathed the Sword of Proximity and gazed into the distance.

A small group hadn’t fled. They included Divine Venerate Xi Yue and her divine emissaries, as well as Feng Wuji.

When he sensed Su Yi’s gaze, Feng Wuji shuddered, then hurriedly waved. “Fellow Daoist Su, as I said earlier, I’ve drawn a line between myself and my ancestor. Please don’t misunderstand!”

Su Yi pointed into the distance. “Get out of my sight immediately.”

“Will do!” Feng Wuji turned and dashed off as if he’d received an imperial pardon.

Earlier, when Di E appeared, darkness enveloped heaven and earth, severing the onlookers’ senses. Thus, they didn’t get to see the final result.

Still, Feng Wuji wasn’t stupid. When he saw that Su Yi was the only one left on the battlefield, he naturally realized that Su Yi had crushed the gods’ joint onslaught and dealt them a crushing defeat.

Now, all he wanted was to flee as far and as fast as possible. Ideally, he’d leave the Epoch Battlefield and return to the God Domain immediately.

So long as the Immortal Realm was home to a heaven-defying, ruthless figure like Su Yi, it was far too dangerous to stay here!
