First Immortal of the Sword-Chapter 2085 - Hostages
Chapter 2085 - Hostages
The crystals contained mottled remnants of power, a diverse array of secret arts, divine abilities, and cultivation experience. They were obviously legacies that the god whose power had formed this hidden realm had mastered in life!
Su Yi only needed to ponder this briefly before he understood. But then, that makes sense. These undead are manifestations of the dead god’s soul. They might be undead, but they carry some of the memories and power the god had in life.
These crystals of soul power were precious good fortune. Any Great Realm expert would have been delighted to acquire them.
Alas, they were of little use to Su Yi. For one thing, the legacies of the Grand Dao they contained were far too fragmented. Each crystal only contained a portion of a legacy, not a complete inheritance.
Moreover, Su Yi had Li Fuyou’s complete memories and Dao Imprint. Such crystals were of no interest to him.
Su Yi gathered them up nonetheless. Even if he didn’t need them, he could feed them to the little monkey...
Su Yi ran into several other groups of undead along the way, but he casually erased them all with a wave of his hand.
In addition to the resulting soul crystals, he gathered several divine medicinal herbs.
The herbs that grew in this lifeless place were unique. Su Yi guessed that they were condensed from the blood and qi of the dead god. After countless years of development, they’d grown and developed to the point that they were brimming with divinity, and it was these things that truly interested Su Yi. He could use them for his own cultivation.
Before long, Su Yi discovered veins of ore and divine materials. All of them had an air of divinity, and all of them were indeed true divine materials. These were obviously manifested from the dead god’s bones, tendons, skin, and membranes.
Realizing this made Su Yi feel a bit strange.
A once lofty god had fallen in the Deification Star Sea, his remains transforming into a hidden realm. His flesh, soul, qi, blood, tendons, bones, skins, and membranes had all transformed into different treasures, good fortune in the eyes of visiting trial-takers!
The thought was somehow unsettling and bleak.
But before long, Su Yi couldn’t be bothered with such thoughts. His divine sense had detected a startling energy fluctuation of the Grand Dao far in the distance. If all was as he expected, that was where the chance at divinity lay hidden!
Practically simultaneously, Su Yi sensed a fierce battle raging in the vicinity of this piece of good fortune.
......
Bang!!
A swath of chaos qi permeated heaven and earth as Bi Kongliu was sent flying once more. He slammed to the ground several thousand feet away, stirring up a cloud of dust.
A chorus of uproarious laughter arose.
Bi Kongliu gnashed his teeth and crawled to his feet with great difficulty.
His flesh was in tatters, his hair was disheveled, and his face was pale and translucent. There was a blood-red, palm-shaped imprint on his cheek.
Someone had obviously slapped him across the face!
A group of divine children watched the battle from a safe distance, their eyes shining with distinctive glee. Their numbers included the unparalleled divine son of the Three Purities Daoist Court, Mi Yeyun.
But it was Jin Buyi who’d attacked Bi Kongliu!
“Su Yi won’t save you this time!” Jin Buyi said with a hideous, sinister laugh. As he spoke, he drew closer and closer to Bi Kongliu.
Jin Buyi had injured Bi Kongliu badly back at the Kingdom of Lasting Light’s Falling Cloud Lake. Back then, Su Yi intervened at a critical juncture, backing Bi Kongliu up. He taught Jin Buyi a painful lesson while he was at it, too.
Most of the divine children present knew all about it. They also knew that Jin Buyi was targeting Bi Kongliu to vent his hatred for Su Yi.
Bang!!
Before long, Bi Kongliu was sent flying. His shoulder shattered and collapsed.
“If you’ve got the balls, just kill me! You're nothing but a lowly coward!” Bi Kongliu gnashed his teeth, his eyes full of loathing.
“Hah! I won’t fall for that!” Jin Buyi said flatly. “When divine children fight, they fight only to victory and defeat. If you die, I’ll bear the responsibility for it. It obviously isn’t worth it.”
“But...” Jin Buyi sharply changed tacks. He flashed Bi Kongliu a hideous grin. “Seems to me that crushing you beneath my feet and humiliating you until you have no face left is far, far more satisfying than just killing you!”
Several of the divine children burst into uproarious laughter. “Bi Kongliu, kowtow and admit defeat, and Jin Buyi might well spare you. Refuse, and I’m afraid you won’t escape disaster today!”
Bi Kongliu gnashed his teeth and said nothing.
But then, a voice resounded out of nowhere. “Boring. Is this really all you’ve got, Jin Buyi?”
The crowd was stunned. When they looked over, they saw that the speaker was Feng Wuji!
“Feng Wuji, are you planning to stick out your neck on Bi Kongliu’s behalf?” Jin Buyi furrowed his brow in displeasure.
“I wouldn’t call it that. I just can’t stand losers like you.” Feng Wuji crossed his arms in front of his chest and jeered. “It was Su Yi who trampled you beneath his feet and humiliated you, but you’re too afraid to try to get revenge on him, so you’re venting your wrath on someone else entirely. How is that any different from the impotent rage of a weakling?”
The divine sons exchanged glances. Jin Buyi, meanwhile, glowered. “Feng Wuji, you have no right to make fun of me. I heard that back in the Immortal Realm’s Epoch Battlefield, Su Yi scared you so badly that even the Master Gods laughed at you! They say you brought shame to your forefather, the Rahu Yao Ancestor!”
The corners of Feng Wuji’s lips twitched. Everyone in the God Domain was joking about that incident.
After returning to the God Domain, his clansmen and seniors had rebuked him countless times over. But he didn’t care. After all, he’d made it out alive!
“At the very least, I knew my limits, but look at you! All you can do is vent your anger on people weaker than you. You’re completely shameless, without the slightest self-awareness.” Feng Wuji jeered. “If I were your ancestor, I’d be turning over in my grave right about now.”
“You...” Jin Buyi was furious.
Mi Yeyun, however, frowned. “Enough! Feng Wuji isn't worth anything. Catch Bi Kongliu and take his treasures. We can’t waste any more time on this.”
“Got it.” Jin Buyi nodded, then approached Bi Kongliu.
“Stop right there!” Feng Wuji suddenly blocked Jin Buyi’s path. “Victory and defeat have already been determined. Don’t push this too far!”
“You really plan to back Bi Kongliu up?” Jin Buyi frowned.
Mi Yeyun said with displeasure, “Feng Wuji, this has nothing to do with you, so you’d best stay out of it. Otherwise, you might well bring disaster upon yourself!”
Feng Wuji rubbed his nose, then let out a long sigh and laughed. “I respond better to persuasion than to threats. Since I decided to get involved, there’s nothing you can say to stop me!” novelbuddy.cσ๓
The crowd was stunned, and their expressions quickly darkened.
Bi Kongliu, meanwhile, was quite stunned. He hadn’t anticipated that Feng Wuji would intervene on his behalf.
But then, a rueful voice rang out in the distance.
The voice wasn’t loud, but everyone heard every word quickly. When they looked toward the source of the voice, they saw a tall, upright figure in blue robes headed their way, unrestrained and extraordinary.
When they saw his face, all of the divine children felt as if they’d been struck by lightning, and they visibly lost their composure. Su Yi!! What’s he doing here!? How could the gods standing guard outside have let him in?
Especially Jin Buyi. He was so startled that his scalp went numb, and he gasped. He most certainly hadn’t forgotten how Su Yi had brutalized him back at the Kingdom of Last Light’s Falling Cloud Lake.
How could he have gotten in here!?Jin Buyi’s heart shook, and his body silently tensed.
During the battle of Falling Cloud Lake, Su Yi had single-handedly slain numerous Mid-Rank Gods. Even Buddhist Venerate Ghama, a Greater God, had failed to stop Su Yi from fleeing. He had left a lingering shadow on everyone’s hearts.
“Fellow Daoist Su...” Bi Kongliu’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Feng Wuji, meanwhile, felt a massive weight lift from his shoulders. He looked at Su Yi, his expression complicated. “Just as I thought. The ‘Ol’ Niu’ I saw earlier really was you in disguise.”
“You stood up for Bi Kongliu because you figured that out, didn’t you?” said Su Yi.
Feng Wuji didn’t try to hide it. “I also anticipated that you’d see through my petty attempts at cleverness, Fellow Daoist.”
“There’s nothing ‘petty’ about it.” Su Yi looked intently at Feng Wuji his gaze rife with meaning.
Then, he turned his attention toward Jin Buyi and the others. He didn’t say a word. All he did was look at them, but the divine children felt chills course through their hearts, and they froze like startled geese, too terrified to move.
“We... we’re just small fries. None of your enmities have anything to do with us, so you... You can’t take things out on us...” stammered a divine son. Beads of cold sweat appeared on his forehead.
“Small fries?” Su Yi smiled faintly, but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Does being a small fry give you the right to wantonly abuse my friend?”
Bi Kongliu was stunned. His friend? Did Su Yi just call me his friend?
Waves of emotion crashed through Bi Kongliu’s heart. He felt inexplicably excited, gratified, and delighted!
“Su Yi, we aren’t afraid of you! Want to kill us? Go right ahead! But you can forget about humiliating us!” Jin Buyi said gravely.
Whap!
Jin Buyi took a crisp, clean slap to the face. Blood spurted from his mouth and nose, and several of his teeth went flying. He cried out in agony and toppled onto his butt.
“You...” Jin Buyi’s eyes bulged with shock and dread.
“You said you aren’t afraid to die,” Su Yi said calmly. “So go ahead and kill yourself. I’d like to watch.”
Jin Buyi’s expression shifted erratically. Then, he glared at Su Yi, resentment written all over his face.
“Why so hesitant? I don't have all day,” said Su Yi.
Jin Buyi clamped his jaw shut. He felt painfully stifled.
“That’s the limit of your courage, yet you dare boast that you aren’t afraid to die. It’s truly ridiculous.” Su Yi couldn’t help but shake his head.
He’d ceased to consider the so-called “divine children” his opponents way back in the Immortal Realm. How could he possibly fear them now? It was to the point that he couldn’t even work up any interest in humiliating them.
Take now, for instance. Mi Yeyun was a proud and unparalleled divine son, but he was as frightened as if he were walking on thin ice and as silent as a cicada in winter!
“Relax. I have no interest in killing you,” said Su Yi. “But whether you live or die in the end will depend on your seniors’ attitudes.”
With that, he waved his sleeve through the air, used a spatial divine technique, and suppressed all of the divine children at once. Then, he slipped them into his sleeve.
“Wh-what about me?” said Feng Wuji, feeling a little guilty. “Surely you won’t make things hard on me?”
Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh. “I won’t make things hard on you, but when we leave, I’ll need you to come with me.”
Feng Wuji instantly understood. His spirits soared, and he said with delight, “You want me to be your hostage? Sure, I’m great at that!”
“....” Su Yi didn’t even know what to say.
