Chapter 988: 987 Are you afraid I’ll find out?
Li En’s loan was foiled because of Bai Yiyi!
Wen Ran learned about it later when she called Bai Yiyi.
That weekend, Mo Xiuchen was out all day and did not return until before dinner. At the dining table, Wen Ran told him about Li En’s situation. He smiled and said, “Ranran, I don’t have any objections, but first, ask Bai Yiyi whether Li En is willing to accept our sponsorship.”
“Okay, I’ll give Yiyi a call tomorrow.”
Wen Ran thought Mo Xiuchen’s suggestion was reasonable.
Li En didn’t seem like a very approachable person, and he might not be willing to accept their sponsorship.
The next morning, she called Bai Yiyi. By the afternoon, Bai Yiyi called back, saying Li En had rejected her proposal.
“Ranran, Li En is too stubborn…”
Bai Yiyi explained apologetically on the phone. In fact, she felt Li En’s attitude had been strange these past few days. It seemed that whenever Wen Ran or anything related to her was mentioned, Li En acted very odd.
Wen Ran said in an indifferent tone, “It’s okay, Yiyi, if Li En changes his mind sometime, feel free to call me back at any time.”
Bai Yiyi agreed, and less than five minutes after hanging up, Wen Ran received a call from Li En.
Originally, Fu Jingyi had asked her to make a call to Li En, but she hadn’t saved his number. Recognizing the number on the caller ID yet unable to recall who it was, Wen Ran felt a vague sense of familiarity.
She pressed the answer button and greeted him coolly with a “hello.”

“Miss Wen, this is Li En. Do you have a moment now? There’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”
Hearing Li En’s voice, a flicker of surprise crossed Wen Ran’s eyes, but she then responded, “Yes.”
**
Half an hour later, Wen Ran entered the café, where Li En had already arrived.
“What coffee would you like, Miss Wen?”
Li En was polite to Wen Ran, but his manners were tinged with an undercurrent of coolness and suppressed emotion.
“I don’t drink coffee, just a cup of hot water, please.”
Wen Ran said to a nearby waiter, who soon brought her the hot water.
“May I know the reason Mr. Li wanted to meet with me?”
Wen Ran casually asked while clutching her cup.
Glancing out the corner of her eye, she saw Little Liu standing outside the café in the biting cold. Wen Ran frowned slightly and pulled out her phone to call Little Liu.
Qing Feng and Qing Yang were nowhere to be seen, and Mo Xiuchen wasn’t at home. Little Liu had driven her there.
When she had got out of the car, she told him to wait inside or join her for a coffee inside the café. Instead, Little Liu had refused her invitation and stood loyally in the cold, staring straight into the café.
Seeing Wen Ran making a call, Li En remained silent.
After she ended the call, Li En started, “I promised my teacher I would inform Miss Wen once I found out who had bullied Yiyi.”
Wen Ran was startled, her eyes showing a hint of surprise as she looked intently at Li En, “You’ve found out?”
With a somewhat stern face, Li En said, “Not certain yet, but I’ve been investigating this matter for months and now, there are some leads.”
Wen Ran blinked, confusion flickering across her brow.
For some reason, she had a strange feeling that Li En’s attitude was insinuating that the person who bullied Yiyi was connected to her.
Otherwise, why would his gaze carry a hint of ridicule?
Wen Ran looked at Li En’s stern face, “Does Yiyi know that you’ve been investigating this?”
At her query, a cold spark flashed in Li En’s eyes, his gaze at Wen Ran hinted at incomprehensible things, “What are you implying, Miss Wen? Are you suggesting I should stop investigating, or are you afraid of what the investigation might reveal?”
Wen Ran, puzzled by his words, said, “Mr. Li, I think you’re mistaken. I feel that as Yiyi’s friend, it’s not our place to be too intrusive. If she wants us to know, she would tell us herself. Since she doesn’t mention it, she might not want to remember that person or those events.”
“Is that what you believe as Yiyi’s friend?” Li En’s face was full of disdain.
Wen Ran pursed her lips, unconcerned with his attitude, “Yes, I do believe that because it’s basic respect. Everyone has their own privacy.”
“Ranran, you say this because you know who hurt Yiyi, don’t you?” Li En suddenly sneered, glaring at Wen Ran angrily.
Wen Ran faced him calmly, meeting his accusatory and scrutinizing gaze and spoke lightly, “If you, someone close to Yiyi, don’t know, how would I, someone who has only recently met her, know? The things I said before are merely my personal opinion; there’s no need for you to be so imaginative.”
“You had better truly not know.”
Li En fixed a harsh stare at Wen Ran and after a long moment, he spoke coldly.
After finishing, he pulled out his wallet to pay, adding, “Yiyi’s problems are my problems. I don’t care how you convinced my teacher, but remember, those were my teacher’s promises, not mine.”
“What do you mean, Li En?”
Wen Ran watched as Li En dropped the money and got up to leave, her expression involuntarily changing.
Pausing his steps, Li En turned back to look at Wen Ran, his voice cold, “Once I find the man who hurt Yiyi, I will not let him go. If you’re afraid, feel free to warn him.”
Wen Ran watched as Li En strode out of the café, deep in thought and unable to comprehend his intentions.
“Madam, who was that man just now?”
On the way back, seeing Wen Ran lost in thought, Little Liu furrowed his brows and asked with concern.
Wen Ran was pulled back from her thoughts, looking out the window, “His name is Li En, a friend of a friend.”
After responding, Wen Ran took out her phone and dialed Mo Xiuchen’s number.
Little Liu focused on driving as he saw her engaged in a call, staying silent.
After a few rings, Mo Xiuchen’s deep and magnetic voice came through, soothing as a whisper in her ear, “Hello, Ranran!”
“Mo Xiuchen, when will you come back?”
Compared to Mo Xiuchen’s gentle voice, Wen Ran sounded somewhat downhearted.
Mo Xiuchen picked up on her mood and asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Ranran?”
“There’s a little issue, will you come back for dinner tonight?”
“I will be back shortly.”
Hearing that she had something on her mind, Mo Xiuchen replied without any hesitation, offering comfort, “Whatever it is, don’t be upset, I’m here for you.”
His words truly lifted Wen Ran’s spirits considerably. She smiled lightly, playfully saying, “Yes, with you here, I’m not worried about anything.”
Hanging up the phone, Wen Ran took a deep breath and turned to gaze out the car window.
