Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl-Chapter 245 - : Just Asking, Which Cub Has Had It Worse Than Sesame
Chapter 245 -245: Just Asking, Which Cub Has Had It Worse Than Sesame
Chen Ying hadn’t dared to tell Little Sen, fearing that if he found out even Mendun’er was deeply disappointed in him, he might spend the night biting his blanket in tears.
He set down his bag and went to help Mendun’er look after the babies.
The three little rascals were causing quite a commotion.
From a distance, he could hear three sharp cries.
Within a twenty-meter radius, not a mouse or bird was to be seen.
On closer inspection in the nest, the three Little Cubs couldn’t even crawl steadily yet they were biting each other, fighting and making “Aang~ Aang~” sounds.
He felt the belly of the Third Cub, hmm, pretty round and plump.
There was no need to mention the eldest and the second, they were practically indistinguishable from rice balls in size.
The Third Cub was tough and didn’t talk much; he fought with a bit of a street rat vibe, biting faces, toes, and even butts.
Despite the eldest and the second being bigger than the Third, neither of them was a match for him one-on-one.
When it was two against one, they’d start infighting halfway through the skirmish, and Third didn’t even need to lift a paw; the two brothers would end up rolling into a ball by themselves.
Chen Ying picked up the Third Cub, placed him on the bamboo leaves to let him experience the fresh air outside.
The Third Cub cautiously circled around, then cheerfully squirmed forward.
As the first and second fought, they sensed something was amiss, sniffed around, called out twice, and froze.
Oh no, the Third had vanished from their sight.
The first and second frantically searched the nest, looking to dig the Third out of any crevices.
Chen Ying watched them and felt they were somewhat dim-witted.
He hoped they didn’t inherit this from their mother.
The reason Mendun’er was named so had a lot to do with his dim-wittedness.
Seeing the Third Cub rolling a bit too far, Chen Ying quickly picked him up and returned him to the nest.
The first and second pounced on the Third Cub, who had seemingly dropped from the sky, pinning him underneath and causing him to howl in frustration. He struggled with all his might to crawl out from under them.
Afterward, the Third still tried to crawl out, but the exit wasn’t as accessible as before; Chen Ying had increased the difficulty to prevent any escapes.
Chen Ying was enjoying the playful time with the three cubs when he suddenly noticed a juvenile panda with black and white patches walking slowly in front of him, apparently with a slight injury to its right front paw.
He thought that the traps in the vicinity had been cleared several times; there shouldn’t be any leftovers, suggesting that the injury might have been an accident.
Chen Ying took out his walkie-talkie and called the panda conservation team. Soon, a young man dressed in a panda suit came running over.
(”My grandma told me that a long time ago, there was a kind of panda that walked upright on two legs, and because it didn’t eat bamboo, it eventually went extinct!”)
Chen Ying signaled to him where the possibly wounded young bear was located. The young man nodded and then called for backup, ready to capture the bear.
But before they could get there, the suspected injured bear approached on its own.
All the while wailing as it ran.
“Wuu wuu, two-legged beast, I finally found you.”
Holy crap, Sesame! Sesame?
Chen Ying startled, leapt to his feet, and rushed over to hold Sesame.
“Ying ying ying, aang ahh~”
Sesame’s tone varied dramatically, and anyone would understand its plight without knowing animal language.
“What’s wrong with you? Did you have a fight with your mom again?”
“Not at all. It was that big guy, who didn’t play fair. I’m barely over a year old, and it chased me away from mom’s side.”
Chen Ying paused, then remembered that the forest’s original lord had been that belligerent male panda.
Even the Street rats kept their distance from it.
Chen Ying sat down and inspected Sesame from left to right, ensuring there were no other issues, then picked up its right front paw and saw a split nail torn into the flesh, which explained the odd gait.
“How did this happen?”
Sesame licked its paw nonchalantly.
“I didn’t grip properly when coming down the tree, slipped. It’s much better now, it just hurt a lot when it was first injured, I didn’t dare to walk and slept under the tree all night.”
Sesame nestled into Chen Ying’s embrace.
“I’m so hungry, I want to eat that delicious treat.”
“Alright, I’ll take you back to treat your wound and let Daddy Little Sen cook you some delicious cornbread.”
It was Little Sen who had mostly looked after Sesame before, and now that Sesame was back, he was probably the happiest.
Chen Ying thought of his upcoming trip to Sanjiang to observe the Tibetan antelopes, and it would be perfect to leave Sesame with Little Sen for company.
Several young men in panda suits looked at Chen Ying with eagerness.
Brother Ying was truly impressive, even giant pandas were willingly throwing themselves into his arms.
“This one is a kitten we have previously rescued, named Sesame. Someone come with me to the emergency station to help give it a full-body checkup.”
And another one, Chen Ying planned to carry Sesame back with the help of another person.
This silly bear took its wounded claw, which was starting to show signs of infection, so lightly, licking it each day and hurrying along.
If not treated properly, it could affect its future life.
More importantly, if the wound were to get infected, it could threaten its very life.
Chen Ying called Little Sen, who was already ready at the emergency station; Sesame would soon be able to enjoy the longed-for cornbread and milk.
Little Sen started steaming the previously prepared cornbread as soon as he received the phone call.
Then, he stood on tiptoe at the intersection, as if this would let him see Sesame a second sooner.
Mendun’er lay underneath the wooden rack, eating and dozing off; upon seeing Little Sen’s actions, it too curiously crawled over, sat down against a tree, and casually pulled a bamboo shoot for a snack.
In the end, it was three people who took turns carrying Sesame back.
After being lifted, the little guy just collapsed into a bear pancake.
Upon seeing Little Sen and smelling the familiar scent, Sesame hugged his leg.
Mendun’er forgot to chew the bamboo in its mouth and looked incredulously at Chen Ying.
“How did this little thing get here? Where’s my mom?”
“Your mom found you a ‘daddy.’ Sesame got kicked out of the house by your ‘daddy’ and traveled miles to seek help.”
Mendun’er was so shocked that it yelped and trotted over to examine Sesame, hugging and inspecting her from left to right.
Sesame, being good-natured, let her big sister fiddle and fuss over her, but eventually sighed, pushed her away, and said,
“Can I eat something first? I’m hungry!”
While Mendun’er was fussing over Sesame, Little Sen ran to bring over bowls of milk and cornbread.
He also took a machete, chopped a dozen bamboo shoots, removed the bad leaves, cut them into lengths suitable for Sesame to eat, and piled them beside her.
Chen Ying fetched tools to trim Sesame’s injured nails, meanwhile cleaning up the surrounding dirt and then applying medicine.
If it weren’t for a slight infection, there really wouldn’t have been any need to treat it.
It’s not uncommon for animals to get injured in the wild; most heal on their own. If they really can’t heal on their own, they can always go charm the King of Hell, and maybe they’ll reincarnate as a pampered pet in their next life.
The two panda men, Young men, quickly returned after delivering Sesame.
That trio of cubs could not be taken lightly.
After watching for a while, Mendun’er’s maternal instincts finally kicked back in.
It swayed back to nurse the kids, moving as sluggishly as parents who dawdle downstairs, reluctant to go home after work.
Uncle Zhao and Uncle Yi both came over when they heard that Sesame was back.

Uncle Yi even made Sesame a rocking horse and checked all the toys and equipment at the rescue station once more, making two new tire swings.
Uncle Zhao was in charge of repairing the wooden racks and platforms, and he further rearranged the space previously transformed into Mendun’er’s birthing room, making a thirty-centimeter-high wooden platform three meters long and one and a half meters wide for Sesame to sleep on.
Sesame seemed to recognize the two older Two-legged beasts as creatures it had seen before and even remembered its familiar big bed and favorite swing.
After being casually raised and then driven away early by her mother, Sesame, after much hardship, finally found a home where it would be cared for and loved.
That night, Sesame slept sweetly.
Little Sen got up two or three times in the middle of the night, afraid that it might get hungry or scared.
Sesame slept through until morning.
Opening its eyes, it saw Little Sen sorting bamboo shoots by the doorway.
Sesame walked over, sat next to Little Sen, and stuck its head into his arms, demanding that he rub and massage it.
Little Sen’s heart almost melted; he comforted Sesame for a while, gave it the tenderest bamboo leaves, brought over bowls of milk and cornbread, and even delicious apples and sweet carrots.
As Sesame ate, it lay down, lifting one little leg, firmly resting it on Little Sen’s leg, insisting on a nice rub.
Chen Ying, holding a cup of water, stood on the second-floor balcony looking down, rolling his eyes.
Was this a live-action version of the landlord’s pampered youngest son and his personal attendant?
“Little Sen, you might want to ease up, don’t spoil Sesame too much, or it might get too accustomed to being taken care of and struggle to live independently later,” he warned.
Hearing Chen Ying’s words, Little Sen hesitated a bit and withdrew his hand.
Sesame, displeased, raised its head and cried out twice at Chen Ying.
“When have I been unable to live independently? I want a massage, not for him to find my food.”
You’ve got food coming to you without lifting a paw, and you don’t need someone to find your food?
Chen Ying set down the cup and began to worry, stroking his chin, about Mama Bear’s genes.
The eldest, Mendun’er; the second, Great Bai; who knows if there is a Third cub; and then there’s Sesame.
They all seem a bit off.
Besides, with Mama Bear’s prowess, if she really didn’t want to, could that battling Giant panda truly have driven away Sesame?
He had the nagging feeling that Sesame might be hiding something.
But dwelling on it was pointless. Sesame had already found its way here; surely, it couldn’t be sent away now.
Let it relax properly for a while; sooner or later, this guy would have to leave.
Is it able to beat its brother or outwit its sister?
This one’s just a weakling among the weak.
Great Bai and Jiao Jiao, along with their two cubs, had wandered off somewhere.
They were likely traversing the animal paths in Old Bear Gully towards the deep mountains.
Leo, not much younger than Sesame, should be living independently by the end of the year, with the next one or two years set for adapting to the wild before starting to train for the mate competition.
Regarding Little Cub, it should normally stay for another half a year before becoming independent, though Great Bai and Jiao Jiao might encourage independence earlier due to their plans to have more offspring.
They probably wouldn’t be as direct as Mama Bear. They’d likely let the little one live in the territory of its brother, Leo, or in the surrounding area of their territory for some time.
Great Bai, who had wandered too far, was unaware that its little brother had actually come to seek refuge with the Two-legged beasts; otherwise, it would probably have come back to take Sesame with them.
After all, one cub being sent away or two being let loose, the presence of a third cub could provide some competitive drive for those nephews.
