Chapter 294 -294: From Then On, Sucker’s Name Was Deeply Bound with the Xilla Pride

Poachers weren’t targeting the lion pride; their sights were set on the big antelopes and bulls.

They poached these animals for their meat.

Direct killings of lions had decreased a lot, but the degradation and disappearance of natural populations were not unrelated to humans massively intercepting their food supply.

“See that damn bunch?”

“Over there, charge at them. Damn scum.”

The vehicle sped up, Chen Ying gripped the handle tightly as his adrenaline spiked.

He had never experienced anything like this, fear, excitement, and thrill surged in turns.

A group of Poachers on bicycles, about fifteen or sixteen young men, all armed.

Seeing the Patrol Team arriving, the group with the neatly arranged meat crazily dashed into the jungle.

The ground was left in a mess.

There were a few unprocessed big antelope corpses and bull skins that had been peeled off but not yet bagged.

Several vehicles split up to chase.

The vehicle Chen Ying was in had a driver who must have been a racer; the ride was thrilling to the point where the back of his head tightened.

The vehicle swerved to a stop in front of two fleeing men; the men aimed their guns to shoot, and the person next to Chen Ying pushed his head down to take cover, then opened the window and exchanged fire.

When Chen Ying ducked, he saw another shadow flash through the woods.

His forehead pressed against the seat cushion, and indecipherable shouts filled his ears.

During a lull in the gunfire, Chen Ying quietly looked out the window.

Indeed, the female lion’s icy gaze filled with hatred stared intensely at the dark-skinned man on the ground.

He wanted to say something but didn’t dare to speak out loud. His gaze swept around and, realizing everyone had exited the vehicle, he mustered his courage and opened the door.

Nimbly sliding out, he hid behind the vehicle, cautiously looking around, intending to dash into the woods.

Just as he was about to move, the dark-skinned man suddenly rolled over, a small handgun in his hand aimed at a large tree in the five o’clock direction.

The gunshot sounded, and Chen Ying, startled, immediately cowered and covered his head.

In his peripheral vision, several lions burst out of the woods, charging through the gunfire to pounce on the man’s back.

As the man’s screams echoed, Chen Ying saw another dark-skinned man rush over from the rear, gun aimed at the lion.

“Xilla, get out of the way!”

As Chen Ying shouted, blood rushing to his head, he charged at the man.

A few exclamations rang out nearby, “Mr. Chen, what are you doing?”

The female lion Xilla, hearing the familiar voice, turned sharply, knocking away the male lion beside her.

The bullet grazed the male lion’s shoulder bone, passing between them.

Seeing Chen Ying being pinned and fiercely beaten by the dark-skinned man, Xilla roared angrily and, with a fierce leap, her claw caught the man’s neck, tearing off a chunk of flesh.

The dark-skinned man screamed in agony, writhing on the ground.

Xilla was about to strike again but was embraced around the neck by Chen Ying, who was struggling to his feet.

“Xilla, calm down, you can’t kill him.”

“Roar, he deserves to die!”

“Yes, he deserves to die, but you can’t be the one to kill him.”

Chen Ying, holding Xilla’s neck, scanned the surroundings, “Wait a while, and you can bite him a few times to vent. Just don’t kill anyone, or the Two-legged beast won’t let you off.”

A glint of intelligence flashed in Xilla’s eyes; she nodded gently.

Perhaps even Chen Ying himself didn’t realize that his unintentional act had cultivated a lion that was extremely shrewd, radiating its influence throughout the entire West African National Forest Park lion population.

The people in the vehicle had already subdued the two Poachers and were now looking at Chen Ying and Xilla with a strange gaze.

Lions that could coexist with humans weren’t unheard of, but those were pets that had been raised from a young age.

The lion in question was a wild one, grown free and savage on the West African lands.

Chen Ying couldn’t afford to ponder their stares.

Ensuring it was safe, he immediately rushed to the male lion.

Whether the lion that had charged through the gunfire was injured, and whether those injuries were serious, he needed to assess the situation immediately.

The situation was manageable, primarily just grazes. A disinfection and dressing, followed by some medication, should suffice.

“Mr. Chen, we need to provide support to others. Do you want to wait here, or should we take you back first?”

Waiting here was definitely not an option.

Chen Ying glanced at a bicycle lying nearby, picked it up to check, and it was still usable.

“You all go ahead, I’ll ride this back.”

He took it for a spin, riding better than he expected.

Seeing he had chosen his means of transport, the driver left him a combat knife for self-defense, then they waved and left.

Chen Ying was somewhat stunned, but fortunately, he still had two large lions near him!

Riding the bike, with a lion leading the way and another guarding by his side, it was quite the scene.

After riding for a while, three female lions emerged from the woods, two of whom he had seen earlier.

The three female lions circled the male lion and Xilla, looking at them for a while before forming a V-shape around Chen Ying.

“Did you save my daughter?”

The leading female lion roared softly, speaking very calmly.

“Thank you, from now on, you are a friend of our pride.”

This lion seems a bit unusual?

After carefully examining it, Chen Ying realized that it wore a radio collar around its neck and suddenly understood.

Professor Careyes had said that when she first arrived at the national park, she saved two female lions, and had collars put on them before releasing them.

It seemed that this was one of them.

The rescued female lion had lived with Professor Careyes’ team for two years, evolving from a rookie mother to an experienced lion pride leader.

After exchanging simple pleasantries, the female leader Ava sniffed near the male lion.

“We’re going to teach those guys a lesson, Xilla, you stay and protect him.”

“No, I want to go too. I want to bite their limbs off and turn them into reptiles.”

Xilla was smart; previously, Chen Ying had told her not to kill people randomly, but wounding was okay—who could blame a lion for lacking restraint?

“How about we go together?”

The consequence of this statement was that the West African National Forest Park gained a new legend.

The Ava Lion Group had embraced a two-legged beast, and that two-legged beast would ride twin circles, sprinting behind the pride during hunts.

Heaven knows, Chen Ying felt he was nearly sparking fire with his pedals just to barely keep up with the speed of the lion pride.

That was the result of Ava and Xilla intentionally slowing down.

When they reached the destination of the lion pride, Chen Ying clung to a big tree, almost out of breath.

With Xilla’s help, he climbed the tree to hide, while the lion pride concealed themselves in the bushes.

Minutes later, three poachers appeared, running on foot, looking back as they ran.

On their bodies were the signs of a fight.

Perched carefully in the tree, Chen Ying had a clear view as the three men ran into the lion pride’s ambush and foolishly stopped.

It was almost as if it had been rehearsed in advance.

The men scrambled and crawled under a tree, luckily, the tree Chen Ying was in was about three or four meters away from them.

Chen could not understand a word of the clamorous conversation below.

He saw the leading female lion, Ava, flick her tail—a signal to attack—and the male lion appeared first, promptly knocking down the nearest man.

Then, the other four lions overpowered the remaining two.

Amid screams, their arms and legs were bitten off.

One more female lion wanted someone’s head, but Ava bumped her to the side.

Xilla also ran over, baring her teeth in a threat at the female lion.

“Roar, no killing him, my two-legged beast said.”

“Get lost, he can’t control me…”

“Roar, I can’t let you kill our kind.”

Xilla opened her mouth to attack the female lion, but Ava bit her tail to prevent harm amongst the group.

Chen Ying quickly climbed down from the tree and checked the three men.

It was gory; their limbs were probably beyond saving.

In their home country, there was a certain possibility for successful orthopedic surgery—if he were performing it, not saying complete recovery, but at least seventy to eighty percent functionality could be expected, enough for daily life.

But why bother? He prevented the lions from killing these scum, because if wild animals killed humans, they would definitely be seen as a major threat to mankind and would be dealt with.

But a wound was different. Could you really expect lions to measure their force when fighting humans?

These guys were not harmless common folk.

“Drop your weapons, put your hands up.”

Hearing the voice behind him, Chen Ying turned to see someone pointing a gun at him.

He quickly raised his hands, explaining in French that he wasn’t a poacher, but an Eastern veterinarian invited by Professor Careyes’ team.

The leader scrutinized Chen Ying for a while, made a call to confirm, and finally, gruffly told him to leave quickly.

Chen didn’t want to argue, glanced at the lion pride, and started walking in the direction he had come from.

He suddenly stopped after a few steps.

Those few in the process of stepping out of the car to check the situation looked on guard.

“Sorry, it seems I have lost my way.”

Chen smiled wryly and pointed at Xilla.

“I am here to assist it; today is its release day, I was invited to participate in the release. But something happened, and they couldn’t look after me. Luckily, Xilla was willing to lead me back. We came here and encountered these three men who tried to attack me, but Xilla and its pride saved me.”

His story left his listeners with an expression like they were hearing a myth, making Chen struggle to continue.

“So, could you contact Professor Careyes to come pick me up, or let Xilla lead me back?”

The thin man in the vehicle holding a rifle looked at their captain, as if to say, ‘Is this guy out of his mind?’

The captain didn’t waste words, just picked up his phone to call Professor Careyes when a voice came from the side.

“Chen, thank God you’re alive. Those guys were too much, abandoning you in the forest like that.”

Professor Careyes’ face was flushed with anger as she stepped down from the SUV, continuously cursing those men.

“Hey, Professor, no worries, I’m not hurt, I’m fine, see.”

He spun around in front of Professor Careyes—aside from being a bit dirty and disheveled, he really didn’t have a scratch on him.

“Professor, this is Xilla’s pride, and it seems to really hate those poachers.”

“Of course, those are the people who hurt it.”

While they were talking, the patrol team members had already dragged the three men into the vehicle.

“Professor, these three were maimed by the lions, they’re probably not going to make it. We need to transport them first, the rest will be handled by other forest protection teams.”

After saying this, he glanced at Chen Ying, his look meaningful.
