Freedom Jumper-Chapter 158: Letter of Acceptance
Chapter 158 - Letter of Acceptance
Elijah was hastingly greeted into the medical buildings that stood three stories tall amidst the chaos and peace of Sefrah.
This specific building was thoroughly designed to make anyone with an injury or illness feel at home, as well as the likely chance they would be saved.
Unlike Astraea, Gion had a large number of illnesses with prearranged treatments and cures that were quickly put into place. This revolved around surgeons who opened up the body with the aid of magic, and the use of special esoteric tinctures made with ingredients that would sometimes include the saliva of a rare beast found far away in the beastlands.
While Elijah figured it was similar to the untrustworthy medical system that used to exist in Elijah's past life, he understood no business would survive if it did not make money.
The people knew very well of the consequences of living a life of booze, hard to digest food, and sweets that would clog anyone's body in large amounts. Smoking was also quite the hobby to a lot of the rich people.
Pure "Ganda", as they call it – the plant of the daemons. This plant was not truly illegal, but highly controlled and kept a secret, probably due to the feeling of laziness it would bring upon you if overused...
While it is not true in all cases, the dosage makes the poison when it comes to ganda.
"Ah! He's back!"
Saskia ran up to Elijah's figure who casually walked from the dark wooden stairs into the sunlit room filled with beds.
"Yes. I have returned."
Elijah's words were nothing short of awkward, and followed with being shocked by the soft and gentle hands that grasped his own. "Sa-sakia?"
"I know you must have gone through a lot, but rest assured that you have Niko by your side, and even me... We are friends... Right?" Saskia's hazel eyes full of life tore a hole through Elijah's emotional defenses. It was as if something else was at play, a flaw that would cause anyone she physically touched to become prone to letting their emotions loose.
A large singular tear was seen coming down Elijah's right cheek. His deep blue eyes were wildly visible, and were the only sight Saskia laid her eyes on.
"I... Please. Help me..." Elijah dropped to his knees, releasing himself from the soft touch of Sakia. Meanwhile, Niko stood eerily still, watching him carefully – knowing that only he could help Elijah in private.
The struggles of being reborn...
...
"So this is the letter, huh?"
After Elijah's emotional escapade, he rebounded with his will and the support from Saskia and Niko. Later on, he did know that he would be having a conversation with Niko.
Or rather, that Niko would be having a conversation with him...

What Elijah had just received from Niko was his letter of acceptance. The only reason they had known without even opening the letter was because of the professor who delivered it amongst Elijah's sleep.
Marcellus Farasky, one of the Art of Defense professors. This man had bright blue eyes very similar to Elijah, and was accompanied with a water affinity. Normally, earth mages would be crowned an Art of Defense professor, but over the past century, new ways of using the water affinity have come to light.
"Wait... I have a class here that I did not even choose!" Elijah looked up at Niko and Saskia assuming they had an answer.
Unfolding the brown and aged letter, Elijah took his time to understand each part while digesting the structure he assumed the academy would follow. Of course, in the light of the day, he had to pull off to the side of a clothing shop in one of the busiest parts of Sefrah. Once underneath the awning, the bright light disappeared allowing Elijah to get a better look at the letter of acceptance.

"Yes. About that, the vice-president had said you were to switch from Element Mastery to Art of Defense. At least, that was what Marcellus told us when visiting you a few hours ago..." Niko explained hesitantly, worried about soiling Elijah's mood.
"I see... I won't worry about it I guess..." Elijah chose to not protest because of the worry that Marcellus had seen more than he should have. Now that Elijah had recollected himself, he remembered the moments before he passed out. Marcellus was right there with him, and maybe even saw the destruction he caused once touching the floor.
"Just so you know, you both will have to cough up 4000 Genny each at the Education Hall in order to be confirmed into the academy. If not, your spot will be given to a last minute acceptance."
"Ha! I knew it!" Niko raised his hand amongst the crowd of people while walking through the streets. And in return, received awkward stares...
Time passed by quickly as the group of three separated. Saskia had bought a carriage to take them to the Central Market District of Tavenas in order to not walk for over an hour just to get back to their temporary home.
Saskia had not suggested following them as she was a busy girl. Whether it be her secret magitech projects she vowed to not say anything about until in the academy, or the picture she has to hold up for the rest of the kingdom to see in the form of attending gatherings with her family — time was limited, and would thankfully be freed up once within the academy. The next time they would likely see each other is if they visited the Sohana estate themselves, or once the academy had started.
Opening the door to Richter's humble flat, Niko and Elijah threw their light and oversized backpacks onto the floor just left of the door, then took a seat in the reclining chairs they had been calling their bed.
What Elijah had enjoyed about the academy entrance exam was how they were provided everything – including a nice place to sleep.
While Richter made a considerable sum of money, he still chose to live in a singular flat. Expenses were not high, but the life of a potion seller in Tavenas can be lucrative one day, then completely dead the next.
Unfortunately, a promise that had never been agreed upon, but suggested had been broken by Elijah and Niko. They both had said they would help Richter gather unique herbs and potion materials, but instead became busy with their own way of life.
Since Elijah and Niko had been splitting their money since the beginning, they decided to leave 1000 combined Genny for Richter on the rectangular coffee table.
However, when they had both glanced at what was on the coffee table, their minds became confused when looking at the different headlines.
"Series of mysterious murders leaving victims sprawling in the street."
"Kingdom-wide curfew established at 10 o'clock due to the unsolved murder chains."
"Nothing to report on any findings related to the series of murders. Although, it is suspected they are happening during the night, thus, a curfew has been put into place."
"Enforcers are seen in much larger numbers after sunset due to the series of murders happening around the kingdom."
