From Rejected Fake Heiress to Desired True Love-Chapter 400: Saving People
Chapter 400: Chapter 400: Saving People freёweɓnovel.com
Nan Qiao returned home, where Grandpa Bai and Granny Bai were waiting for her.
Normally, at this time of day, the old couple would have already gone to bed.
But today, they didn’t go to sleep; instead, they sat there waiting for Nan Qiao to come back without calling her to hurry home.
Nan Qiao put down the flowers, walked over, and sat beside Granny Bai. "Grandpa, Grandma, why haven’t you gone to bed yet? Don’t tell me you were waiting for me."
"Qiaoqiao, we were indeed waiting for you. I know you have excellent medical skills. Can you help take a look at my old friend? He’s struggling with illness, suffering terribly every day," Grandpa Bai said, his face showing worry.
Granny Bai added, "Qiaoqiao, if possible, I’d like to bother you to take a look. If there’s any way to ease his pain, that would be great. If not, then so be it."
Grandpa Bai said again, "Here are his medical records for you to review. If you think there’s no way to help, then don’t force it. Qiaoqiao, thank you for your hardships."
For Grandpa Bai and Granny Bai to make this request, this person must be very important to them—a long-time friend.
Their eyes, filled with earnest pleading, made Nan Qiao reluctant to look away.
"Grandpa, Grandma, let me review his medical records first."
Nan Qiao picked up the files from the table and began to examine the case.
Grandpa Bai and Granny Bai remained quiet, silently waiting for Nan Qiao’s response.
After finishing her review, Nan Qiao said, "Grandpa, Grandma, I’ll go take a look first."
Grandpa Bai and Granny Bai’s faces lit up. Granny Bai held Nan Qiao’s hand and said emotionally, "Qiaoqiao, thank you so much for this. You don’t need to put too much pressure on yourself. If you can treat him, that would be amazing—but if not, we’re grateful either way."
"Grandpa, Grandma, don’t worry. He’s your friend, so he’s also my elder. I’ll do my best," Nan Qiao reassured them.
Hearing this, both Grandpa Bai and Granny Bai felt both excited and relieved.
...
Nan Qiao returned to her room and lay on the soft bed, letting her body rest.
She had just relaxed for a while when her phone rang.
"Boss, someone reported seeing your student arriving in Jing City. They weren’t entirely sure it’s him, though. I’ve already deployed more people to search and am heading to areas with homeless individuals first."
He had come to Jing City without money, identification, or any known means—it was puzzling how he made it here.
"Houzi, thank you for your hard work."
"Boss, no need to thank me. He’s your student, which basically makes him my junior. I’ll do my best to find him."
Nan Qiao expressed her gratitude and ended the call. She also wanted to track down her "cheap apprentice" as soon as possible.
Nan Qiao sat at her computer and spent some time handling work-related matters.
While working on a design plan, a video call from Li Yehan popped up.
She didn’t answer immediately, choosing instead to finish her work before calling him back.
"Qiaoqiao, am I interrupting you?"
Li Yehan appeared on the screen; he had just showered, his hair still slightly damp, and his sharp, handsome face softened by a hint of a smile. He wore gold-rimmed glasses and looked so captivating that Nan Qiao secretly swooned.
"How did you know you were interrupting me?" Nan Qiao asked while reclining in her massage chair to relax.
"You didn’t pick up the video call; you must have been busy. At this hour, you wouldn’t be sleeping yet. You’re always working late into the night, even after going home."
Li Yehan leaned back on the sofa, his shirt unbuttoned at the collar, almost as if teasing Nan Qiao on purpose.
"Li Yehan, could you focus on talking instead of trying to show off your pecs?"
Li Yehan pulled his shirt closer. "Qiaoqiao, don’t you like looking?"
Of course Nan Qiao liked looking—but being offered such a view so openly made her feel awkward.
Her gaze couldn’t help but drift towards the deeper part of his neckline...
"Qiaoqiao, I’ll pick you up for breakfast tomorrow morning."
"No need. I’m having breakfast at home tomorrow morning, then heading out to check on my grandparents’ friend. His health isn’t great, and they’ve asked me to see if there’s a way to help."
Hearing this, Li Yehan had no choice but to agree.
"Qiaoqiao, you should save a little time for me. Don’t you feel bad about making me eat alone?"
"Li Yehan, as long as you’re willing, there’ll be plenty of people eager to share a meal with you."
"Qiaoqiao, I only want to eat with you."
Li Yehan’s luminous eyes seemed to pierce through her. Flustered, Nan Qiao shifted her gaze away from the depths of his neckline. "Dinner, then. I’ll join you for dinner. Li Yehan, I’m exhausted—I need to rest. You should get some sleep too. Early to bed, early to rise for good health."
Li Yehan responded with a soft "mm," and Nan Qiao ended the call.
...
The next morning.
Nan Qiao got up early and accompanied her grandparents to visit their friend’s house.
After an hour-long drive, made manageable by light traffic, they arrived at a countryside estate.
The surroundings there were stunning, with blooming flowers everywhere, lush trees shading the landscape, and the occasional refreshing scent of fruit drifting in the breeze.
"Grandpa, Grandma, this place is truly an ideal spot for recuperation," said Nan Qiao.
On such a beautiful day, in such a gorgeous setting, one’s spirit felt reinvigorated.
Grandpa Bai sighed. "Precisely because of the scenery here, he’s chosen to recover in this spot. But alas, no matter how lovely the environment, the pain in his body hasn’t eased one bit."
Granny Bai patted Nan Qiao affectionately. "Qiaoqiao likes this kind of environment. We should build a house here too."
Nan Qiao smiled faintly. "Grandpa, Grandma, let’s head in first."
The two elders nodded and led Nan Qiao inside.
...
As the three entered, Nan Qiao took in the interior design. The house was spotless and decorated with freshly picked flowers arranged beautifully.
An elderly man, seated while eating, greeted them warmly. "Brother Bai, Sister-in-law, you’re finally here."
Although he spoke cheerfully, he remained seated due to his wheelchair-bound condition, unable to walk.
Grandpa Lu appeared kind and approachable. Even at his advanced age, Nan Qiao could tell he must have been quite handsome in his youth.
Grandpa Bai smiled. "Old Lu, this is my granddaughter Qiaoqiao. She was switched at birth, but recently we were lucky enough to find her."
Nan Qiao greeted him politely, "Hello, Grandpa Lu, my name is Nan Qiao."
Grandpa Lu’s face lit up with warmth. "Please, sit down. Have you eaten? If there’s anything you’re craving, let me know, and I’ll have the chef prepare it."
"Old Lu, no need to trouble yourself. We had breakfast before coming over. I thought we’d first take Qiaoqiao out for a stroll through the garden. You can join us once you finish eating—it’s not good to sit for too long after meals."
"Brother Bai, I’m already full. I’ll accompany you to the garden now. I recently added several new flower varieties; let me show you."
The caretaker stepped forward to adjust the wheelchair, but Grandpa Lu stopped her. "Finish tidying up the dishes first and ask the chef to prepare some desserts. I’ll head to the garden with our guests."
"Understood," the caretaker replied, leaving the wheelchair untouched.
Nan Qiao walked over to help push the wheelchair. "Let me take care of this, Grandpa Lu."
"Thank you, Qiaoqiao. You’re too kind," said Grandpa Lu gratefully.
"Grandpa Lu, no need to thank me—it’s simply the right thing to do."
With that, the group headed for the garden together.
