Global Beast Mastery: Only I Can See the Hints-Chapter 560: Death Approaches
Hearing the explosion, Serena immediately turned around and shouted to the two teammates behind her, "Get ready for battle, the captain and the others are up ahead!"
Evan and the remaining teammate quickly summoned their mystical beasts, then drew their weapons, staring intently ahead, ready for combat at any moment.
At that moment, the explosion sounds faded away, and the entire forest fell into an eerie silence.
Evan couldn't help but speak up, "Serena, could it be that the captain and the others have already killed that powerful ferocious beast? Otherwise..."
Before he could finish his sentence, two rapid footsteps echoed, and the leaves in the distance started shaking quickly. Two figures emerged before them.
Serena stared at the two figures, stunned. It wasn't just her who was frozen in place; even Evan and the other genius Beast Master from Kingston were momentarily stunned.
The reason for their shock was simple—Miles Carter and Skylar looked utterly disheveled. Their clothes were barely intact, with only their lower halves covering some important areas, and their bodies were covered in stains and dried blood.
They looked like two wild men!
If it weren't for the fact that Miles Carter and Skylar's faces were still visible, they wouldn't have recognized them as their teammates.
Evan's mouth fell open, his mind filled with questions. As he looked at Captain Miles Carter and Skylar, he saw their faces light up with immense relief and joy, as if they had just found a savior.
Without thinking, Evan blurted out, "Captain, what happened? What powerful ferocious beast did you encounter?"
Miles Carter didn't answer. It seemed like something occurred to him, and he hurriedly shouted to Evan and the others, "Run!"
Upon hearing Miles Carter's words, Evan's confusion deepened.
Run?
Run from what?
Behind Miles Carter and Skylar, there was an eerie silence. No sounds of a ferocious beast running, no other movements—why were they being told to run?
Just as Evan was trying to make sense of the situation, a piercing, shrill scream echoed in his ears.
A sharp arrow whizzed past him, hitting the Kingston genius Beast Master behind him with unerring accuracy.
"Boom!" The massive explosion echoed, and several drops of warm liquid splattered onto Evan's face.
In a daze, he reached out and touched the liquid on his face. Bringing his hand up to his eyes, he saw it was red... blood!
At that moment, Miles Carter had already reached his side and yanked him away. Evan's body instinctively started running. He glanced back and saw a large crater where his teammate had been standing. Everywhere around it were scattered limbs, severed arms, and organs; some pieces of the bodies still had muscles twitching.
As Miles Carter ran towards the distance, he roared angrily, "Charles! Damn Charles, I won't let you get away with this!"
Evan finally reacted, looking at Miles Carter, who was running beside him. His mouth trembled as he repeated, "Charles? Charles?"
It was Charles?
Not some powerful, ferocious beast?
Was it Charles who had pushed Captain Miles Carter and Skylar to this point?
How could this be possible?
It must be an illusion! It had to be an illusion!
Evan felt as if he were dreaming; everything felt so unreal. Just moments ago, his teammate, who had been resting beside him, had turned into countless pieces of shattered bodies. And now, he was running alongside Captain Miles Carter, fleeing from Charles's arrows.
Another piercing whistle sounded. Evan's body instinctively shuddered, almost causing him to fall. Just as he did, the arrow Charles shot grazed his body and landed nearby, followed by a violent explosion.
The shockwave from the explosion threw Evan completely off balance, causing him to fall to the ground.
At this life-threatening moment, Miles Carter finally took responsibility as the team leader. He roared toward Serena, "Quick! Use your skill, hide!"
Without hesitation, Serena's back suddenly sprouted three tendrils, wrapping around Miles Carter, Skylar, and the fallen Evan. In the next moment, their figures vanished from the spot.
Moments later, Charles, holding the Chasing the Moon Bow, arrived at the spot where Miles Carter and the others had disappeared.
He immediately activated his Divine Domain to search for any clues they might have left behind. But strangely, it was as if no one had been there. There were no traces, no footprints on the ground, no wild grass trampled underfoot, no branches broken.
Nothing.
Not even Max could smell anything, as if Miles Carter and Skylar had simply vanished without a trace.
Charles took a deep breath. It seemed that the vines which appeared on Serena just now were the reason all the clues had vanished. He hadn't expected that among Kingston's genius Beast Masters, there would be someone like this.
There was no choice; Charles had to put away the Chasing the Moon Bow, determined the direction, and started moving quickly toward the central canyon area.
Although he had lost track of Miles Carter and Skylar, Charles had just killed one of Kingston's genius Beast Masters. Plus, with the high-quality miracle drug being restricted, the injured Miles Carter and Skylar wouldn't recover so quickly.
As long as no unexpected events occurred, and as long as they could continue hunting the ferocious beasts and collecting enough Blood-red Jade, the victory in this contest would undoubtedly belong to Genosha.
However, Charles still felt some unease. There was a strong possibility that Miles Carter had some hidden cards he hadn't played yet.
If that was the case, all he could do was face it head-on, and deal with whatever came their way. ƒreewebɳovel.com
...
Meanwhile, about three kilometers from where Miles Carter and the others had vanished, a short, lush tree, as though receiving some kind of instruction, slowly raised its branches upwards.
Next to the tree, the weeds on the ground automatically parted to either side, clearing a narrow path. The sound of footsteps suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
When the footsteps faded, the tree and the weeds returned to their previous state, erasing all traces.
Miles Carter's voice suddenly rang out, "Alright, we've pretty much shaken off the danger. Charles must have given up on tracking us."
In the next moment, four figures appeared in the open area—it was Miles Carter, Skylar, Serena, and the dazed Evan.
At this point, Evan still hadn't recovered from the shock. He looked down at the green vines around his waist, where blood was seeping from the wounds on his body, being absorbed by the vines.
This was Serena's special skill. It allowed certain plants to follow her commands, and these green vines could also absorb all the scent emitted by the body, leaving no trace behind.
Without this skill, they would not have been able to escape Charles's pursuit.
Evan weakly sat on the ground, instinctively reaching out to touch his face, where the blood had long since dried. In a daze, he muttered, "Was it Charles who killed our teammate earlier?"
The atmosphere suddenly grew tense. Miles Carter and Skylar exchanged a quiet glance, unsure of what to say.
When Evan didn't hear a response, he repeated the question, his voice becoming more frantic, "Was it Charles who shot the arrows and killed our teammate?"
"Was it him?!"
Miles Carter muttered in response, "Yeah."
Skylar wasn't bothered by these thoughts. He began to tend to his wounds. Since encountering Charles, he finally had a moment to relax. If he couldn't shake off Charles's pursuit and continued being worn down by Charles's arrows, he was sure he'd be killed in the end.
Serena's mood was also low. She hadn't expected that her teammate would be the first to die. According to their previous plans and expectations, all of Genosha's genius Beast Masters should have been the ones to die.
What had happened?
Before Serena could voice her confusion, Evan's uncontrollable voice sounded again: "How is this possible? How could Charles be that strong? You two... you two are together! How could he—"
"And Luna? Is she dead?"
Miles Carter answered calmly, "There was no Luna. From the beginning, it was just Charles alone."
Evan suddenly stood up. He walked directly to Miles Carter, looked at this captain who had once been intimidating, and loudly questioned him:
"How is that possible? Are you joking? Just Charles alone?"
"He did all this to you and Skylar, and you two had to ask for help? And he killed one of our teammates!"
Miles Carter silently watched Evan, his gaze calm, no longer carrying the fear and unease that had been present when he faced Charles earlier.
Evan took a deep breath, realizing his words were inappropriate. He lowered his head slightly, took a few steps back, and then sat down without saying another word.
Serena watched the scene in front of her, letting out a helpless sigh. No matter how they felt, they had already lost a teammate, and that was something that couldn't be undone.
Was Charles really that powerful?
Serena had this doubt in her mind, but now wasn't the time to continue asking about Charles. She would have to wait and see what Miles Carter's next plan was.
After about two or three minutes, Miles Carter stood up. He looked toward the direction of the central canyon and slowly said:
"Let's get ourselves together and move out. Charles will die, and his companions will die as well."
Everyone looked up at Miles Carter. Serena and Evan didn't feel much, but Skylar sensed that the calm, confident Miles Carter from before was no longer there.
Though Miles Carter's words were firm, Skylar knew that after encountering Charles, Miles Carter had changed.
He was no longer the same shining figure.
