After sending the intel to Song Yingwen, Yang Yi received a payment of 30,000 Shell Coins. Then he checked the world channel.

About eight hours earlier, a player had asked for help in the world chat, as he’d also encountered the Collector.

His ID number looked familiar — it was the same player who had offloaded a large amount of wood two nights ago.

He’d attempted to trade eight times, but was rejected each time. So, he turned to the chat, hoping someone could help.

Most of the responses were from people just looking for a laugh.

Suggestions ranged from offering the Collector a pile of poop, to robbing and running, to giving him your dominant hand, your ship, or even standing on your head and offering the Earth… and so on.

None of the suggestions were remotely useful, let alone viable.

Yang Yi scrolled up to look into the origins of the incident.

He saw that the player had also encountered the Collector along the shore and was immediately prompted to trade, almost exactly the same scenario as what Yang Yi had experienced.

The fact that this same event had occurred twice clearly pointed to some kind of pattern.

Through comparison, Yang Yi found two things they had in common:

They both had made large sums of Shell Coins in a short time.

They both encountered the Collector at night while retrieving timber.

This could be the trigger condition for the Collector.

If a player amassed a large number of Shell Coins in a short time, it could attract the Collector, and once a player lays eyes on it, that gaze serves as an invitation.

If seen, the Collector will immediately board the ship and demand a trade.

If that’s the case, the Collector might’ve already appeared on previous nights, but because Yang Yi didn’t see it, the trade didn’t trigger.

"Looks like even making money has its risks…" Yang Yi muttered to himself.

He scrolled down to check the images and item info shared by that player.

This Collector didn’t seem to be the same one he met. Though it wore a black robe, it was much smaller, less than half a meter tall.

Beneath the robe was a skeleton, its glowing skull, and bony hands visible, but there was no soul fire within.

That suggested the bones might’ve been controlled by some kind of thread, though none were visible in the photo.

Yang Yi checked the offered trade items: two in total — a mid-grade Abyss Soulstone and a golden treasure chest covered in coral and barnacles.

【Name: Waterlogged Golden Treasure Chest】

【Description: There's a surprise inside, but most people are reluctant to open it.】

"A waterlogged chest, and a high-grade one at that."

Yang Yi was familiar with these kinds of chests. Most likely, there was a monster inside. Even if there wasn’t, opening it would definitely be dangerous.

The fact that it was presented alongside a top-tier item meant its value was at least equal to, if not higher than, a top-tier item, perhaps it contained two.

Yang Yi skimmed the rest of the chat, reaching the end of the incident log.

Someone had suggested asking the Collector what it actually wanted. That way, the trade would go more smoothly.

The player took the advice.

And then… nothing.

He never posted again. When others tried to DM him, they found he’d already deleted his account confirming he had died.

"Looks like there are forbidden questions during the trade process…"

"Or maybe it depends on the Collector’s temperament," Yang Yi speculated.

He looked at the golden coin in his hand. It was the Satisfaction Token left by the rare-item Collector.

Considering the risks of the trade, unless he was well prepared, it was better not to summon the Collector again.

Yang Yi put the golden coin away.

He stepped out of the captain’s quarters and saw that the Nightmare Star was floating on the open sea, the Twilight Veil deployed, making the ship invisible.

The sea was calm, no suspicious shadows or dangers in sight.

After confirming the area was safe, Yang Yi took out a piece of black bread and ate it. He hadn’t eaten in nearly 24 hours, and hunger was setting in.

Then he deactivated the Twilight Veil and began piloting the Nightmare Star towards the Bountiful Sea region.

If he happened to run into an island, all the better. If not, he wouldn’t force it. After all, there were many ways to make money and he still had crystal weapons he could sell.

Once he adjusted the ship’s speed and heading, Yang Yi used a mid-tier Artisan Inscription Stone to upgrade the Sea Serpent’s Fang, raising its quality to top-tier.

【Name: Flame Serpent's Fang (Corrupted)】

【Type: Treasure】

【Quality: Top-tier】

【Description: A serpent fang dagger infused with the power of fire. It ignites wounds on contact, causing burn damage. The flame power can be released all at once to ignite a wide area. Cooldown time: 24 hours. During cooldown, the dagger loses its ignition ability but remains sharp.】

There were no new skills unlocked, which left Yang Yi a little disappointed. However, the flame burst had a wider range, and the cooldown was cut in half. Plus, the dagger could ignite wounds, greatly increasing its damage output — not a bad upgrade overall!

Yang Yi stored the Flame Serpent's Fang into his ring, then took out the Pale Worm Fishing Rod from the captain’s quarters and prepared to fish.

He fished for three hours and caught: one bottle of fresh water, eleven fish, three Eyeball Fruits, and two red-lipped eels each over a metre long.

“The bite rate’s kind of crazy…” Yang Yi muttered.

He wasn’t comparing it to the frigid seas, but to the last safe sea zone.

The bite rate had pretty much doubled. It was either due to his improved fishing skills or simply because this sea had more fish. Yang Yi figured both were likely true.

Suddenly, he reeled in something strange.

It was a brightly colored, umbrella-shaped mushroom covered in white dots, but a chunk had been bitten off.

The moment it emerged from the water, it released an incredibly appetising aroma that made his mouth water.

【Name: Delicious Mushroom】

【Description: A tasty, non-toxic mushroom that’s so good, it’s impossible to stop eating. No matter how it’s prepared, it’s always delicious.】

“Delicious…”

As soon as Yang Yi saw that word, his instincts kicked in, full alert. He knew just how dangerous "delicious" could be!

Best not to eat it. It was probably addictive, one bite and you'd never stop!

Footsteps approached.

Yang Yi didn’t turn around, but he already knew it was Suna. The scent was familiar.

“You caught that?” she asked.

“Yeah. It’s called a Delicious Mushroom.”

Yang Yi sent the item details to her, and she immediately snatched it.

“Let me see!”

“Don’t eat it!”

“I’m not gonna eat an experimental sample!” free𝑤ebnovel.com

That’s what she said but her mouth was already watering. The mushroom smelled incredible, and it triggered a primal hunger.

Unlike the effect from the Gourmet Chef’s Knife, this mushroom’s appeal seemed to be natural. It had significant research potential.

Clutching it, Suna headed straight for the lab. Yang Yi followed close behind. Not because he was worried she’d sneak a bite, but because he wanted to craft some crystal weapons to sell for money.

He had talked with Suna before, when making moulds, it was best to have actual weapon samples on hand. That way, they’d be more accurate, and not just be basic 3D shapes like cubes, rectangles, or spheres.
