Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe-Chapter 715: Serious Threat
That name wasn't unfamiliar to the leaders of the Umbra Thieves.
When Kissinger heard the man speak his name, his expression darkened. "It's this boy again. He keeps interfering with our plans!"
"He's no mere boy, my lord," said Malcolm in a solemn tone. "I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but it was Adam Constantine who killed Olin Barrett as well as the fourteen Rank 2 Magi of our cult two weeks ago."
"It was him?!!" Barnabas was stunned, and so were the other two leaders of the thieves' guild.
Although they knew that the Rank 3 Magus from the cult had been killed by a Rank 2 Magus, they didn't know of the latter's identity.
The higher-ups of Ravenfell had tightly concealed this matter in order to indirectly protect Adam.
But now, knowing that it was none other than him who dispatched all the Magi from the Cult during the Duskfall Incident, the leaders of the Umbra Thieves found themselves momentarily speechless.
"If my intel is correct, then Adam Constantine was also the one to cure Brigham Flynn, yes?" Malcolm asked with a raised eyebrow.
Kissinger couldn't help but intensely frown. "Indeed, it was him."
"Now you see how great a threat this Magus is?" Asked the emerald-eyed man. "I urge you, my lords, do not underestimate this young man."
He paused for a moment before speaking in a cryptic tone, "Olin Barrett underestimated him. Look what happened to him."
Wendell suddenly spoke up, "Lord Morgan, what do you think the boy, I mean, that Magus is doing here?"
To the Umbra Thieves, Adam was no longer a boy, but a man who posed a serious threat to its existence!
"It could be anything." Malcolm shrugged. "The Ravenfell main forces could have sent him to scout ahead of them, or to sow chaos and create an opportunity for them, or…"
His eyes narrowed and his words turned cold, "To simply assassinate one of you and greatly reduce the guild's combat power."
"Assassinate us?!" Barnabas roared in fury, "He is looking down on us!"
"No, my lord," Malcolm respectfully refuted. "If anything, you, or rather, we are looking down on him. Do not forget, Olin Barrett had a small army of undead, yet he was the one to die."
He paused for a moment before deeply emphasizing his following words, "Do not take Adam Constantine for a regular Rank 2 - Mana Liquefaction Magus. The threat he possesses is not different from a Rank 3 - Mana Vortex Magus!"
The chamber descended into silence. The expressions on the faces of the Umbra Thieves' leaders were complicated and dark.
But the truth of the matter was, it was indeed as Malcolm Morgan had said.
Adam Constantine was a serious threat!
Seeing that he had succeeded in having the three take Adam seriously, Malcolm concluded, "Please dispatch your men for a city-wide search. Although I doubt they'd be able to capture him, at the very least, his scope of operations would be greatly hampered."
Kissinger deeply looked at the man and solemnly nodded. "I understand, Lord Morgan. Thank you for this crucial piece of information."
Malcolm smiled politely and lightly bowed once again. "We are allies, Lord Kissinger. It is only right that I do my best to assist you in any way I can."
He paused for a moment before looking at all three leaders of the thieves' guild. "Now, my men and I will retreat to our quarters. When the hour of battle comes, rest assured we will stand beside you and fight with everything we have."
The three leaders couldn't help but feel greatly at ease having Malcolm as thier ally. He was far better than Olin Barrett.
With that said, the Magi from the Cult of Bones left the grand chamber, leaving the leaders of the Umbra Thieves to release the order to hunt down Adam Constantine.
…
In a lavish two-story manor a couple of blocks away from the Black Spire, the people from the Cult of Bones had finally settled down after their long journey from Europa.
The journey through the Galestine Ocean took more than a year if one traveled by sea, and a few months less if one traveled by a flying dirigible.
The fact that these people had arrived in a little more than two weeks meant that they had some extremely fast-flying mounts with them.
Apart from these four Magi that had come from Europa, the rest of the Cult's Magi had been gathered from all over the Acadian Empire.
As mentioned before, the Cult of Bones' network was vast.
Rank 1 - Mana Foundation Magi of the cult patrolled the boundary of this manor. Meanwhile, Rank 2 Mana Liquefaction Magi were seen patrolling inside the estate.
The four Rank 3 - Mana Vortex Magi from the cult rested in the heart of the manor, protected from all sides—although they didn't need such security to begin with.
One of the Magi glanced at Malcolm, who was enjoying a steak dinner, and couldn't help but ask, "What was the need to give these people false promises?"
"What are you talking about?" Malcolm asked with a slight frown.
The Magus thought for a moment before speaking, "I mean you telling them that we will help them in their battle against the armed forces of Ravenfell. Clearly, that isn't our objective at all."
Malcolm glanced at the man, and spoke with a chuckle, "Would you rather I tell them that we weren't sent here to help them?"
His voice turned cold and he viciously mocked. "You're a Mana Vortex Magus, hundreds of years old, use your brains."
"…What I meant was, you didn't need to go so far as to explain yourself to them," said the man awkwardly. "Why should we, from the Cult of Bones, have to explain anything to these low-life thieves?"
Malcolm raised his eyebrow. "Huh, so that's what you meant." He resumed eating and replied after several moments. "It doesn't hurt to get on the good side of these people. Even if we're going to backstab them later."
One of the other cultists spoke up, "There's four of us, Malcolm… All Rank 3 Magi. Don't you think this is an… overkill?"
Malcolm looked at the man and solemnly stated, "This is a mission directly given by the Cult Leader."
He paused for a moment, his eyes flashing with a vicious light. "Perhaps two Rank 3 Magi could have effortlessly carried out this mission, but I'm not one to take any chances. Especially considering what happened to Olin."
Malcolm looked at all three Magi in the room and sternly ordered, "I will repeat this over and over again - do not underestimate Adam Constantine!"

His voice turned cold and he added, "Our mission is to capture him at all costs and take him to the Cult Leader! Failure will not be tolerated!"
"And as for the Umbra Thieves?" Malcolm sneered in contempt. "They can burn with the city for all I care."
